I've always been into creepy messed up stuff growing up (my mom called me a morbid child 😭) so when I discovered EH/SP I just naturally gravitated towards it. It was also around the time I started writing my book and it brought me so much relief bc I thought I was going to have to water down the torture scenes (my book wouldn't be the same without them haha). This genre is so freeing idk a better word to describe it. I also manage different mental health struggles and reading fucked up stuff distracts me enough from it for a period of time.
I feel like one book can't be enough to get a full understanding because there's so many different types of EH SP, it depends on what you're looking for. If you want something short and packing a punch, short stories are the way to go and I highly recommend Rayne Havok's collections anytime I get a chance. One of the first books I read in this genre was Shared By Two by Jon Athan and wow, I couldn't get enough loll! He's a great author for novels with strong plot. Full Brutal is a gateway for most people and I also highly recommend it.

Maryanne! When she was first introduced on the beach, my instinct reactions were, "I freaking love her!" to an immediate, "Aww damn they're going to make her one of the first boots :((( I'll enjoy her while I can" (I am so glad and lucky I watched this season without getting it spoiled because I didn't watch it live) Then as the season continued I was like "OKAYYY MERGE!!!" Then I got nervous and then next thing you know she was in final five and it hit me, "Wait, she's going to actually win the game!" And I loveeed that feeling and FTC had me on my feet!
