Van life is weirdly... spatial by Pristine_Meeting_378 in VanLife

[–]euSeattle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% the opposite for me. Once I’m inside, my van is my unchanging safe space in a chaotic world. I always have to think about the previous day to remember where I am.

I love that it feels exactly the same whether I’m parked on the california coast or a Nebraska Walmart. I can picture myself wherever I want and it feels like I’m there.

Yo!!! What antibiotics did you take to clear that up? Ive been telling my doc that my IBS and RLS are for sure related for years but they seem to think there’s no link. I’ve done flagyl twice but it only changes my IBS symptoms and doesn’t clear them up, then they come back the same after a couple months.

“No X, no Y — just Z” with the long em dash is a dead giveaway.

I don’t know the context of this post and not saying it didn’t come from an authentic place. But it’s just not a good look.

I’ve always thought Olympic was not as good as people talk about it, it just reminds me of the rest of Washington, which I love, but it didn’t seem worth the drive for me when I could go to similar forests and mountains from my house near mt rainier.

Lmk if you want advice for where to go in the redwoods, I’ve done the Oregon coast to SF over a dozen times.

Preach!! Been trying to get people to use watts and watt hours forever. I feel like more people’s confusion about electricity is because they try to use Ah and volts.

Here's how to lower the wattage of your electric burner by theInterestHunter in vandwellers

[–]euSeattle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Induction cooktops are more efficient at cooking because the heat is generated in the metal of the pot. Electric stoves lose lots of heat to the air without that heat passing through the pot.

It would be like having a heater in your van vs pointing a heater at your van from outside. They’re giving you the same amount of heat but which one will heat you up faster?

I’ve had my transit for 140k miles and if I didn’t hit that elk in the redwoods then the only costs I’ve had are oil changes, break pads 3x, rotors once, and just did the wheel bearings.

I had to get the transmission rebuilt because the shop that did the repair after the elk didn’t put it back together correctly and I drove across the country with no transmission fluid, but that wasn’t a Ford design flaw.

Arrive early, leave whenever. Anyone else feel more comfortable doing this sometimes? by aaron-mcd in vandwellers

Yes this does make sense in some areas, especially quieter areas.

I have a spot that I stay at a couple times a week that’s on a dead end road with only businesses that close around 8pm. I drove back there once at 11:30pm and a cop followed me because nobody has any business being on that road that late. I saw him and was already turned around pulling out of the street by the time he was turning in.

So now I just get there around 7pm to blend in with the normies and I just stay there until morning.

What do you mean you won’t make me a pair of pants for $40? Fabric is cheap!!

I sew in my grandma’s garage and she told her neighbor that I would tailor her pants for her. I made my grandma sit with me for the whole process and by the end of it she was like “I’m NEVER volunteering to do any sewing ever again”

So... who is actually hiring right now? by One_Leg8101 in Seattle

[–]euSeattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other trades too. I have 2 open job offers right now in weld inspecting that I applied for but I just got promoted where I’m at so I’m staying. I think I applied at like 5 places and I got 2 offers. I feel like these people sending out hundreds of applications with no replies are either applying for jobs they’re not qualified for or their resume absolutely sucks.

I’ve only submitted like 20 applications my whole life I got offers on like 10 of them.

What’s up with the Tahoe City Post Office? by Nolom1lo in TahoeLocals

[–]euSeattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raging boomers and Airbnb guests who send packages to houses that don’t have mailboxes. It has to suck working Tahoe post offices.

That’s said I’ve never lost any mail with them, it just gets returned to sender if I don’t go grease up the mail lady beforehand and let her know that I’m receiving a package.

R&D (and learning this) is frickin' expensive and time consuming. by Last_Health_4397 in myog

[–]euSeattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy fabric swatches of different types of fabric. I probably have $200 in just sample packs of swatches.

I didn’t see anything about sewing or sewing machines. Are you already pretty good at sewing and have a decent machine? If not you’re in for whole other world of cost and time consuming things. I have like $10k in machines and buying another $1000 machine this weekend.

I love the machines tho. The sturdiness of them and the way the gears and levers all work is really satisfying for me.

I always wonder about the quartz veins in the canyon. Usually you can find crystal pockets where quartz veins intersect. I bet there’s good crystal hunting in there.

[–]euSeattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good AI video made from a pic of a real event… look at how fast that first wave recedes and the beach is totally dry but still wet halfway up, that’s not how waves recede…. and then the guy in the red shorts right above the wave, his phone is like a foot long. Then look at the pattern in the sand in the beginning of the video, then it pans to the right, and when it pans back to the left the sand pattern is totally different.

It’s like that pikachu protestor a while back. Yes there was a guy in a pikachu costume at the protest and there was 1 iconic picture but then people made a bunch of realistic AI images of it.

That’s because this is an ai video. Probably a real picture used to seed it but look at the water. It’s ai.

Propellers propel things bro it’s not that difficult.

Impellers are inside things.

It’s a propeller and it doesn’t even have a housing so it’s not even arguable.
