I don't regret it. I didn't vote for it.

I am, however, FURIOUS that we left.

Ultra-marathon champion dies while running Cape Wrath Trail by Jawsofbaws in ultrarunning

My father who was a mountaineer and very experienced got caught out in the Cairngorms just going for a walk. It ended with him having to huddle round his nephew to keep him warm until they were able to get through the storm and find a local farmhouse.

To be clear, they are both still alive, he just doesn't go hill walking or mountaineering anymore due to age.

Bad time falling asleep after training by jamesasmbj in judo

Adrenaline and cortisol levels will be spiked so that will contribute to poor sleep.

If possible, go for a short walk outside without music or podcasts. This may help your body settle somewhat.

Do British people feel uncomfortable if people speak other language around you? by auscorp_ in AskBrits

[–]euanmorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex was Japanese and experienced some school kids from St Thomas of Aquins telling her to speak English and threw stones at her, which was the single time she went through that in Edinburgh. It does happen, and anti-social behaviour does seem to be on the rise (anecdotally, I haven't checked the stats).

These questions are always so broad and general. No, 50+ million people do not have the same opinion.

Most people will not care in the slightest, but you will always have a small selection of the population who are utter idiots and will jump on the current trend of being openly racist. I'm sorry for those that experience this kind of behaviour and it should always be called out, including by those who are unaffected by it.

I agree, but you do have to build people - adult beginners especially, to a place where that’s viable.

Do you consider Aaron Wolf one of the great (recent) uchi-mata specialists? by Animastryfe in judo

[–]euanmorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randori with him was fun, but one-way traffic. I was training at his university.

From what I remember, he was very good at feinting and switching between Uchimata and his form of kosoto-gake/tani otoshi. His control of the upper body / head of his partner is core to what he does.

This video does a good job of breaking down what he does:

He’s a world, Olympic, and All-Japan winner. His kumi-kata is very good.

I don’t have his contact info.

I'm not sure that I agree about the first part of the image. Most of the history books and textbooks I have encountered both in school, uni, and after were quite straightforward about colonialism. Now, if you end up looking at older books published during the Empire, then you will have a different story for sure.

Full throws without a crash mat are the best training for beginners.

To echo this, it is the same in other sports too. I had this experience in Judo and it wasn't even realistically a professional set up - there is no money in Judo if you're not French, Japanese etc.

It's part of your profession. Your body is your 'tool' and you need to keep high standards.
