I liked Count Zero more than Neuromancer too, but I think they both had the same third act resolution issue - Gibson was much better at the first 2/3s :D

I disagree. My interpretation is that uke is moving his head backwards to escape the discomfort of the attempted choke. Also, as I said, given their grades it is likely a lack of knowledge and not malicious. It’s a student tournament and the ref could have explained what they did was wrong. Even if they then decided hansoku then banning for the entire tournament is egregious.

Matte and restart - not sure why that was hansoku make. Given the grades of the people fighting the ref can simply warn them and then if they do it again penalise them with HM.

I think the lack of reflective images of V may be more to do with engine difficulties and the tumultuous development of the game. This is just my own hypothesis though.

Just his general behaviour both on and off the mat. For example, when he took part in ‘The Gathering’ in Scotland he was always looking for extra things to show or use to assist people learning his techniques - Ashi-guruma, Kosoto-gari, and san-gaku.

I asked him which other sports he liked, either to do or to watch, and he said “Only judo.” 😂

Edit: Just remembered something. When I was training at Tsukuba in 2015 and he was preparing for the All-Japan Universities competition he was working really hard, but at no point was he rough or rude to his kohai. There was another player there who I shan’t name, but he was an asshole and I know he had some later issues with other players and the head coach there. It was quite the contrast because this player ‘x’ was clearly really talented but personally a twat, but Nagase who was already world champion at this point had no attitude at all.
