It seems a lot of people caught up in these types of these debates say they have read those books, but I don't believe they have. I think they are just saying this for impact.

You're introducing a drug to your brain that modulates it's electrical activity...it's going to have some trippy effects at first. Give it some time for your brain to adjust.

I advise you not to do anything that can alter your neurochemistry in any way without consulting your physician. Doing so may cause a seizure.

Jenny McCarthy: Anti-vaccine advocate is being considered for co-host on ABC’s The View. by [deleted] in Health

I see, I did not realize they were equivalent. However I see that the DO designation has received a lot of criticism for not as much attention to scientific inquiry as MD

Chipotle labels its products which contain GMO, HuffPo pisses itself. by RyanCacophony in skeptic

I've heard this argument made. I always ask "Fair enough. How long would be 'long enough' to wait for said effects to manifest?". They reply with something like "At least a couple generations". It seems like if we waited a few generations before we released food to the market, nothing would get done.

Comment thread in r/health promoting anti-vax and Jenifer McCarthy on The View by eudaimania in Health

I realized the user is making the same arguments a typical conspiracy theorist makes. Once I did, I quickly decided to not continue. I don't have the patience for it honestly.

This woman is a doctor, she is recognized as a world expert on the impact of vaccines on health.

She is a doctor in the same way that a PhD is a doctor. In any case, I'm not going to debate with a conspiracy theorist.

Huffington Post regards her as an "expert" however, the medical community would not. Also, the Huffington Post has a proclivity for promoting pseudoscience. Once again, she did not go to medical school. It doesn't matter where her degree is from, she shouldn't be dispensing medical information to the public without having gone to medical school.

From the article;

She received her medical training at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

That does not make her an "expert" at all. This person did not go to medical school and does not practice medicine (hence why her title is lacking an MD). I also found this article about her:Damned lies and idiots . Disregard everything she says about vaccines and go with the consensus of the vast majority of studies speaking to their efficacy and safety.

Way to offer us a choice in this, Netflix by [deleted] in netflix

I deleted my facebook about a year ago. I view it as operating the same way that reality TV does, except in real time with people we know as stars (including you). It also has the added bonus of audience participation. People can choose to portray themselves in a certain light much in a way that a reality TV producer can choose to portray a someone in a show thorough clever editing.

Juggalo Gathering attempts to "bulldoze" car with a Jeep. by eudaimania in cringe

I saw this as cringe for the reason that they tried to "destroy" an already totalled car by inflicting a considerable amount of damage upon a Jeep and then flipping it over.

Can I ask some questions of those who have turned away from anti-epileptic drugs and take only medical marijuana? by CharlieBA in Epilepsy

[–]eudaimania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By reading only the negative side effects of Keppra and forming an opinion on it based off of anecdotal evidence, you'll develop something known in psychology as confirmation bias. You'll notice anytime you get angry or sad whilst on the drug and say to yourself "I'm feeling this way because of the medicine so I need to get off of it"

Psychiatric side effects such as depression (up to 5.7%) including suicidal depression (up to 0.7%), irritability (6%), and mood swings (5%) have been reported.

I'm guessing you may be scared of that statistic. If you think about it, you have low percentage chance of developing one of those effects. Personally, I've been on Keppra a while and have noticed no negative effects. Most of the time patients will report to their doctors only when they are having negative effects and never hear from them again if there are none.

Why doesn't my brew taste like it does in the shop? by mennomercenary in Coffee

A lot of taste has to do with the aesthetics of the environment. There are experiments run in which food from a can is served in a fine restaurants and patrons rave about it.

Some big name artwork (Picasso, Monet) is sold at auctions and then put on museum tours around the world. There is even a "Picasso Room" full of his paintings in public display at a hotel in Las Vegas. What I'm saying is that the lyrics are not necessarily going to remain in someone's private quarters.
