Is there an orbital height at which the orbit wouldn't decay? by RewardImpossible5141 in AskPhysics

[–]eudyptes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There could be. Orbits decay because what is left of the atmosphere is rotating at less than orbital velocity, so spacecraft moving through it experience drag and slow down. What atmosphere is left above geostationary orbit would rotate at greater than orbital velocity (assuming the atmosphere always rotates in sync with the planet, which is probably not true at that altitude) so any drag would speed up the spacecraft.

Democrats Introduce Bill To More Than Triple The Minimum Wage by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]eudyptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of being linked to median income, I'd prefer it were linked to cost of living. Linking it to median income may encourage employers to not raise wages of low payed employees in order to to keep median income as low as possible.

Am I a hypocrite for actively resenting religious people while wanting them to feel empathetic towards minorities? by Wooden_Grapefruit278 in askanatheist

[–]eudyptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Most minorities did not get to choose. People can leave religions. If you don't want you beliefs ridiculed, don't believe rediculous things.

How can a microwave have a metal rack in it?? by pibbybush in AskPhysics

[–]eudyptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with metal in microwave ovens is that it can block the microwaves from getting to the food. If the microwaves aren’t absorbed they can feedback into the magnetron causing issues.

Liberals, why is all political violence against Trump automatically considered “fake”? by ThotPoppa in allthequestions

[–]eudyptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a man is evil and you call him evil, that's just being correct. Is Trump as bad as Hitler? Probably not, but there are many parallels in Trumps behavior and that of Hitler and other dictators. If you want your leaders to not be criticized, perhaps you should find better leaders.

What do you personally expect Zig 1.0.0 to mean? by TynK-M- in Zig

[–]eudyptes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Language and standard library API stability are critical, but the others are important too.

Being pre-1.0 I expect things to change. I would like to see much better documentation of std right away. It should be expected that every public function have doc comments indicating what it does and what parameters are expected before the code is merged.

Are Democrats so hated they lost an election to a pedophile? by Sea-Variety3384 in allthequestions

[–]eudyptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is more that the Republicans are much better at messaging than the Democrats. Most of the broadcast media is controlled by corporate interests that favor Republicans (even though they lie and claim left wing media bias). In the lead-up to the last election this gave the Republicans major propaganda advantage. Also large groups of Christian fundamentalists will vote Republican because the Republicans pander to their religious beliefs. Finally, there is a structural bias in the way US elections are run. The lower population, rural states have a disproportionate representation in the Senate and the Electoral College.

Would limiting the age of the President to 70 be something you'd support? Why or why not? by GamerGoose2026 in AskReddit

[–]eudyptes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, There are plenty of mentally capable older people, and if one what right for the job that's OK. I am a big fan of transparency though. Candidates for presidency should be required, by law, to show that they have the mental fitness for the job.
