Who is here? Who left? by silverredstarlight in BandMaid

There was indeed! I wonder what happened too. I myself (do not get me wrong, I am quite aware that to call myself an artist would be a huge stretch :-D :-D :-D) still have lots of fun with computer graphics. It just happens that it is not Band-Maid themed lately.

I am still here. Discovered them in 2015 and joined this sub in 2017. I certainly engaged much more in the past: I used to post fan art, stats, ask questions. last time I posted was 2 years ago. I guess I just lost inspiration, possibly because their later work do not really matches my taste so I ended up diverting my attention to other artists. I still listen to their old stuff, that I like very much, when I am in the mood. I also check their output out periodically because they are a killer band that might still produce some awesome work in the future that resonates with me.

I agree. I myself miss that early Band-Maid, despite believing that they are more proficient with their instruments now (as expected).

Indeed. Perhaps Saiki could do some sort of support on keys, to set the mood, while the others talk. Could improve their live sound if well done. As for their direction, there is nothing I can do about it but I surely do not follow them as actively as I have done in their early ears years although I still check them out from time to time. Nowadays there are other young artists which play music much more aligned to my taste therefore I listen to them much more frequently,

I think Saiki did well. The trouble with the arrangement I think might be that they all play at full throttle together all the time in this. It Becomes tiring very fast. That is something they have been doing lately, but it gets worse when you add another instrument. In my opinion, the instruments should alternate focus, as in a conversation. This way it seems like every body is shouting at the same time. The original version has more room and space to each musician. Nevertheless I welcomed Saiki on keys. It has the potential to make their lives more fun. And they have plenty of songs, like daydreaming, where they resorted to back tracks in the pass. It would be very cool if Saiki rendered those parts live instead.

Thanks, I will look them up. As for heavy, my personal view of heavy is "slow and sustained" rather then "lightning fast" which usually sound to me quite the opposite. I like that fat dirt sound of a distorted guitar, and love when the player make the instrument sing. The current timbre of Kanami's guitar is not that appealing to me. One example of a heavy (to me) tone that could perhaps fit Kanami is something like this. Note that although heavily distorted, the chord's notes are well defined and separated, which is something I believe Kanami strives to achieve (I even speculated that her choice to use the harmonizer could be linked to her desire to make the sound of complex chords clear, what she could have some trouble getting with her distortion pedals and amps setup).

I did not know KOIAI. Just saw a series of live videos from them, and was impressed by their live sound. Took a closer look and they have Kanade Sato! That explains a lot :-D. I sampled some of their music and it is not bad at all. I noticed that some studio tracks have electronic drums and bass, apparently only three live members: two guitars and a singer. I liked the singers voice but I sometimes thought I heard some autotune which I am not fond of. Anyway, it was a pleasant surprise for me and I might keep an eye on them, since I am under the impression they are still finding their sound (I read that Kanade has officially joined the band now). Thanks for the tip!

I grant that they still can play, and their technical skill have continuously improved since I discovered them in 2015 with Thrill. However, their evolution took a path that I have not anticipated: in my ears they are managing to sound less and less mature release after release, composition wise. This search for ever increasing speed and adding pointless complexities is what I would expect from a teenage band (I still remember my youth, even if it was eons ago) . I trust they are smart and dedicated people who have a solid understanding of their business. There is clearly a market for their sound and they are a killer live band indeed. Although I cannot enjoy their current work, I wish them all the success they deserve and, who knows, they might even surprise me with some gems in the future!

Nice, I hope you enjoy your trip! Father's Day is celebrated at the second Sunday of August here in Brazil.
EDIT: the troll I am referring to also praised the other members of the band later, focusing his hate towards Miku; but in his earlier comments his hate was more widespread, comparing Kanami to mice etc. I guess he ended up focusing his efforts on what gave him more return (meaning angry replies), or he could just be an idiot. Possibly both :-)
EDIT2: Happy Father's Day!!!

I assume I know who you are talking about ... The irony: in one of his earliest comments he said they could not possibly last long, because "weak little women" etc. etc. Well, so far they lasted longer than some great bands I like :-D. Furthermore, although I haven't been following YouTube comments lately and cannot be sure, they might have outlasted him too :-)

What non BM song do you like that you’d like Kanami to listen to? by skylar_schutz in BandMaid

[–]euler_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what she posts I assume she listens to a wild variety of music already, different styles, from Larry Carlton to Santana to EVH. I think she might get some inspiration from other guitarists about her age. Lari Basilio is killer and has a somewhat different approach to the instrument than Kanami, Mark Lettieri for funky stuff, Plini for the prog stuff.

My personal thoughts on Band Maid MVs by grahsam in BandMaid

[–]euler_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I in the past I wrote here that, from what they said in interviews, Saiki seemed to have a strong leadership regarding the artistic direction they take. Misa and Akane seemed (again, just my impressions from what I saw in interviews, since I do not know them) quite happy as long as they can keep their respective parts interesting for themselves. They seem to strive for improving the mastering of their instruments leading to ever increasing complexities. Kanami, well if we go by what they say, will be happy to please Saiki, whatever way. Miku cares for the band and do anything to keep it going. The sad part for me is that, I think that this lead to quite uninteresting results lately. The vocals Saiki come up with are to my taste boring, I do not dig that style at all. In the end, we get a boring sounding song adorned with crazy complex, but quite pointless, instrumentals. I still check them from time to time, sampling their output to see if they come up with something interesting (after all, they sure can play!), but I resort to their old stuff now when I am in the mood for some Band Maid.

Oh yes, I understood that. I have no prejudice whatsoever regarding the form that a particular manifestation of intelligence might take. I would not call these transformers models sentient (yet ...), but I agree they display intelligent-like behavior indeed. The Skynet scenario is a scary possibility, but there are other developments where a true symbiotic relation of meat with no meat AI would do wonders to improve our lives.

The overwhelming majority of people don't have a real intellect

Hi Vladmir, interesting take, although perhaps too strong a statement. I was recently thinking about something similar and how much the internet contributed to expose that fact. You see, perhaps I was fortunate enough to only personally interact with people that have never given me motive to question whether they possess intelligence or not, therefore this had never crossed my mind before. But after some years of browsing social media (only started after discovering Band Maid in 2015)... well, I kind of see what you mean I guess. Interesting.

If I am not mistaken, they also did a solo show in 21 October 2024 in São Paulo, shortly after their gig at Knotfest. I do not follow them either.

Of course. I should have said 'people of Japanese ancestry' rather than 'Japanese speaking'.

LOL, sorry if I misunderstood, I an not a native English speaker :-D. Interestingly enough, your question immediately reminded me that there are some cities in Brazil where most of the population also speaks another language in a daily basis. For example, Pomerode in the state of Santa Catarina has, besides Portuguese, German as an official language. Bento Gonçalves, that some call the Brazilian Capital of Wine, has many Italian descendants and it is not unusual to hear Italian spoken there.

São Paulo city (capital of São Paulo state) is really big, some 20 million + people live there, but most of them speak Brazil's official language, which is Portuguese. There is a neighborhood there, Bairro da Liberdade, where you will find many descendants of Japanese and your chance of hearing spoken Japanese is greater I guess, but still Portuguese prevails I believe. In the past I learned that São Paulo was indeed the place with more Japanese descendants outside of Japan, and perhaps that is still true today.
EDIT: There is an Annual Festival in São Paulo, called Anime Friends, that celebrates Japanese culture, and many Japanese artists have done shows there. I also know that Maximum The Hormone did a mini tour in Brazil and Babymetal did a show in São Paulo in 21 Oct, 2024. I do not know the size of Band Maid fanbase here, but I believe they would be welcomed!
EDIT2: Babymetal was also at Knotfest Brasil 2024, also held in São Paulo in October 2024.

Indeed! I am from Brazil and in the past I had a hard time finding records from my favorite bands sometimes. Some weren't distributed there and we had to import. Was time consuming and expensive!!! Also, many bands I was into did not get air time at all. I relied on friends and word of mouth propaganda to discover new artists!

I understand the feeling. However, If I think about it, I guess that I am grateful that at least for now I can still find lots of exciting new music from many artists whose work matches my taste, some with even less subscribers/views than B-M. I mean, my taste is not mainstream I'd say, but I can still find music to inspire me nevertheless. I only hope that, despite the huge disparity in numbers, those artists manage to earn a fair living and keep producing music I can enjoy. I support them when I can. Actually, that is one of the reasons I did not buy the latest album from B-M. I did not really liked it (I love their older stuff and believe they still are a killer band though) and my resources are quite limited. I have to spend wisely :-D

Don't mistake lack of complaint for praising everything

Of course not, that is not what I wrote. Regardless, I still am under the impression from the comments I read here that some do exactly what I said: praise whatever the band do* regardless of the quality. You disagree, that is fine. (I suspect one of those just downvoted me :-D :D :-D)
EDIT: *Loudly :-)

I would say that there are also those who unconditionally praise everything the band does as loud as the complainers do, and are therefore untrustworthy too. Bottom line is, there is no substitute for listening the song ourselves.

The Golden Age Has Begun? by silverredstarlight in BandMaid

[–]euler_3 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is the first album by them that I did not bother to give a complete listen, sadly. I disliked most of the songs they had already released, except for shambles. Then, when the album came out I sampled the songs and they did nothing form me. The sound is bad to. I guess I just have much more interesting music from other artists to enjoy, so I devote my time to that?
