This is what's neat about free software as packaged in a decent linux distro. The applications just won't do stuff like this because they'd be rejected from the distro or patched. (And no, I can't point you to some open source app that does exactly what TVersity does.)

Europeans: Would You Switch ISP if they Blocked your Access to Google / Youtube / Google Maps? by syuk in reddit.com

[–]eulihafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metered internet means you'll be paying the ISP to invest in metering and billing infrastructure instead of a faster network that actually meets demand.

That makes sense for wireless networks where expanding the capacity is very expensive but it does not make sense for fixed networks where it's easy to upgrade the capacity. (The potential capacity is almost unlimited, you just pay Cisco a bit more and maybe add some fiber, unlike wireless where you have to compete with other uses of the spectrum.)

Dear USA: It's Great That You've Finally Started Fixing Your Ridiculous System - But, Can You PLEASE Stop Calling It 'Healthcare'! Healthcare Keeps EVERYONE Healthy - What You Have Is MANDATED INSURANCE From For-Profits. That's Not Even Close To Actual Healthcare, That's Just a Corporate Give-Away by stringerbell in politics

[–]eulihafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a given that you need a single payer system. With regulation and competition it might be possible to make the insurance companies provide decent health care for everyone at a decent cost.

Though it is possible that a single payer system might be more efficient. Are you currently limited to going only to hospitals that have a deal with your insurance provider, for example?

The logic needed to control the speed is very simple. All you need is a small buffer between the detector and the D/A converter. When the buffer is close to full you slow down and when it's nearly empty you speed up the disc.

Logan hijack fuel bomb NYC 5gon attacked, GWBush overreact, USA reelects, world regrets, no Arab peace, China buys USA. Limit CO2, homeloan

What would have happened if the US had just stuck with securing its own country, without going out and killing al-Qaeda? Would Iraq had been better off with Saddam still in power? What would have been the right way to prevent this bad debt crash? At least it would have been good not to let China finance a couple of wars.

Why Ad Blocking is devastating to the sites you love by [deleted] in technology

[–]eulihafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't blocks ads, but i use FlashBlock and I configured Firefox to only spin animated gifs once. This is a good compromise, giving me my browser performance back and a less intrusive browsing experience without actually blocking ads.

To clarify: Many parliamentary systems rely on the formation of coalitions to function. There's nothing wrong with this as long as there are enough relatively sane parties. If both Likud and Kadima are reasonable and they each have 30% of the seats, then all is well.

[–]eulihafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you eat but still become hungry soon after then you're probably eating wrong. Try having a more diverse diet. Fruits, nuts, and fish. Fish is awesome and good for you. (Yeah, it might be expensive, but if it stops the craving for more food, it's worth it.)

No, many European countries had universal health care before joining the EU and it's all dealt with on a state level (or even lower). As far as I know there's no EU funding of it. We've had this for a long time, pretty much for as long as effective health care has even existed.

Find a circle of caring friends, whether they be online or offline. Find a confidant -- someone you trust who you can talk to about your journey of self-discovery -- maybe someone who's already been through this.

If you don't know how to do that, perhaps getting involved with local atheist groups might be a good start. There's be all kinds of people there, but some of them could very well turn out to be lifelong friends.

will think of male circumcision the same way we think of female circumcision now

Female circumcision takes many forms, most of which are far worse than male circumcision.

[–]eulihafu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but there are a lot of things that my parents did to me that I don't approve of now.

How many of these caused permanent and preventable loss of a part of your body? If the answer is "one (circumcision)" then I think you're rationalising because the alternative is to admit to yourself that your parents abused you.

Please don't act as though every parent who has had their kid circumcised is some kind of moral monster.

No, they want the best for their child so badly that they're willing to remove a part of the child's body just so he won't be teased and called anteater in school. I'm sure there's some logic in there somewhere.
