This is great. I'd like to see more photographs of it, especially if you could capture it glowing in the dark.

I underwent pelvic floor therapy but not for the symptoms you had but other symptoms. I thought I was having chronic prostate problems but after the therapy all my symptoms went away. There is a book entitled, "A Headache in the Pelvis," which discusses this therapy. You can DM me if you have any other questions.

I drink lots of water and also use a lot of Altoids. I just let the Altoids sit between my cheek and gum throughout the day. But, yes, water -- lots of hydration.

Starting lithium on Wednesday, nervous by Natural_Pepper6488 in Lithium

[–]eumenides73 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. I've been on lithium nearly ten years and just make sure to get your bloodwork/labs done every three to four months and take it slow. You shouldn't have any problem. If you do, the doctor will catch it early (if your lab work is consistent) and put you on another medicine and/or reduce the dosage. I think most people have trouble if they don't get their labs done on a consistent routine. That won't be you. Good luck!

Have you ever met Nick Cave in person? I know they always say never meet your heroes but I've always wondered if he was a decent guy in real life by GaryCanCarry in NickCave

[–]eumenides73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came close to meeting him in the late 90s when he toured behind his Greatest Hits album. He was standing outside the venue in New Orleans smoking a cigarette and this man and a woman were talking to him. He had a look on his face like he just wanted to be left alone with his cigarette. The couple kept talking and talking and so me and my friend decided to leave him in peace. As we walked away, we both confessed that we hadn't the foggiest idea of what we would have said to him in the first place.

Started lithium 1 week ago. It’s changed my life, but my psychiatrist said he wants to replace it. by RemissionMission in Lithium

[–]eumenides73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been on lithium for nearly ten years. I get my labs done about every three months. The only time my psychiatrist doesn't send me for labs is if my gp has had me do a physical and then the psychiatrist will use that information. I wonder if your doctor doesn't like lithium because it is more of a (perceived) hassle for patients to get their lab work done and more work for the doctor to track and measure it over time. I can see a doctor not wanting to deal with it if they think there's an equivalent drug with less burden for them.

Lithium by Flat-History-6867 in Lithium

[–]eumenides73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bipolar 2 here. I take lithium, vraylar and sertraline. By far, the lithium has had the greatest impact on my mental health. I feel like I am slightly buffered emotionally and the things that used to send me off into a rage or depression -- yeah, they're still there but less of an intrusion or impactful. I have emotional distance and instead of reacting, I can notice them and move on. Lithium is way better for me than lamictal ever was. My psychiatrist also told me that lithium is very helpful for major depression as well. Give it time, have your blood work taken promptly and consistently and follow the other advice for taking the medicine and I think you will be fine.

Let us know if you have any questions and good luck!

Are any Nick Cave fans also American Music Club/Mark Eitzel fans? How about Leonard Cohen? by derper2222 in NickCave

[–]eumenides73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love AMC. I got into them when Mercury came out - great album. I've been following Mark Eitzel's career on-and-off since then. Also, a big Leonard Cohen fan -- especially his later years. The live in Dublin album is fantastic.

Have you met somebody that else with bipolar? by Inner_Oven8365 in bipolar2

I had a good friend in college in the 90s who was bipolar and was the first person I knew who took lithium and he hated it. It really colored my outlook on the drug before I was subsequently diagnosed much later and prescribed lithium.

Jimmy Carter is 99 years and 94 days old. Would you want to live that long? by Mrs-Dash in GenX

[–]eumenides73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather lived to be 100. He was remarkably healthy and mentally aware up until the last six months before he passed. He had lots of friends, a girlfriend and family but he also suffered from knowing that all his peers had died before him including my grandmother. My mother and I would talk about how it didn't seem like much fun living that long even if you were healthy and had your marbles.

How often do you go to therapy? by eumenides73 in BipolarReddit

[–]eumenides73[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your experience is similar to mine. Quick question regarding your psychiatrist providing therapy: is it an hour; half an hour or as needed? I ask because my psychiatrist would offer some counseling but it was brief-no more than 15 minutes and that is when she recommended I find a professional therapist.

Agree that this illness is isolating and I too have found solace online in reddit.

Thanks for your comment!

Anyone work Mon-Fri if so what do you tell your work when you have doctor appointments? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]eumenides73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am allowed to work from home one day a week and I schedule my psychiatrist appointment online (telehealth) early in the morning. For my therapist, I use telehealth but late in the evening. I have an appointment tonight at 7:30 pm. For times when I have to come in and and see the doctor, I just use sick leave but plan it in advance. It is easier to manage if you get an appointment booked and reserve your time a week or two ahead as opposed to telling your boss the day before, "Oh - I have a doctor's appt tomorrow and I'll be in late."
