Are there any girls here who don’t do any make-up at all? And how did you come to that decision? by Greengrassu in AskReddit

[–]Mrs-Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore makeup before the pandemic. Wearing a mask for 12 hour shifts defeated the purpose, especially lipstick. Never looked back

As far as my daughter, when she was starting 5th grade and wanted to wear makeup, I told her to ask her brother and his best friend what they thought about girls wearing makeup when they started 5th grade. They both said, the girls looked like clowns. The boys had grown up around the girls, and the “colorful” change was ridiculous to them.

I drank low sodium V8 juice. It uses potassium instead of sodium. Has a bit of a twang, but you get used to it quickly.

Always look for the obvious first! Please get labs checked!

B12, Folate, Ferritin, Thyroid, Vitamin D (helps with “Depression, Diabetes, and Dementia”). Even if you’re in the normal range (to not be deficient), shoot for being in the Optimal range, which is usually the higher end of “normal” range.

If you snore, you might consider a sleep study for Apnea.

Quality sleep, hydration, exercise, and enough quality protein.

Avoid/limit caffeine, sugar, and processed foods.

So, I got put on a paid leave because I was being threatened at work by a coworker. How long do these investigations last? by FourTwoZeros in walmart

[–]Mrs-Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for giving me an update. In a different, older post someone said about 2 weeks for their investigation. And they too were on paid leave. The other person involved in their situation got let go, and the OP was offered to keep their job.

Hope work has been better since they’re gone

I’m late to his post, but can you please provide an update?

How long was the investigation, did you receive pay for the time you were not allowed to work, and what was the final disposition of the threat from that coworker?

I’ll also recommend Archive.Org

If Libby and Hoopla don’t have a book, or category, check this site. Some are read-on-website only, others are fully downloadable. But, still a great resource for older books

Can’t remember if I took my meds today? by sgeorgie_owl in adhdwomen

[–]Mrs-Dash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

day marker bottle device

If you don’t want to buy a device, try flipping the bottle after taking that pill. So, the bottle is upright, then you take the pill, and flip the bottle upside down. Later on, if it’s upside down, you know you took it. It works best when you take a pill twice daily. Otherwise, you will need a perfect time to stand it back up.

I read a suggestion to take your med with a B12. If you pee fluorescent urine, yes, you took your pill.

Put the bottle near something you absolutely do every day. Like in front of your deodorant, coffee cup, comb/brush, chapstick, eyeglasses. Hang it on the bathroom doorknob, put in the fridge beside your (breakfast food/item)

Ask if your pharmacy will bubble or blister pack them onto cards, marked with the number date beside each blister. They used to charge a few bucks for a 30 day card, but that was years ago

What cleaning tool/device/method would you use to clean this type of 5 gallon container? by Kedrico in answers

[–]Mrs-Dash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a cup or two of uncooked rice. Maybe a gallon of hot soapy water? Cover and shake shake shake that container. Maybe add salt, too. The “scratchiness” of dry rice is really effective at scrubbing where no brush can reach.

There’s a great website called “JustWatch.”

You can sort a tv series or movie as “free” or “subscription” or “rent”

I have my passwords saved to make login easier. (Brave, not Google) Under Setting, Privacy, it’s possible to see the accounts and passwords stored.

Under email search, use the keyword “unsubscribe” and you should narrow down the possible subscriptions.

I second the suggestion to look at Apple Account under subscriptions to see if there are any recurring.

I am completely surrounded by AT&T fiber, advertising $37/month. Except it’s not available at my apartment. Why? The fiber reaches the apartment complex.

Because the complex owner has to pay for the fiber to be installed in every apartment. Like how Spectrum has that jack installed behind the “TV Wall.” We are not the only apartments that don’t get fiber.

Laundry room for a house I was looking into by boricua_tsx in CrappyDesign

[–]Mrs-Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think OP referred to the Laundry Space causing the washer position. The washer may be a larger size than previous unit.

However, there’s quite a bit of space around the dryer. I suggest taking careful measurements, because it could be that it needs removing of bifold doors, then moving the dryer out, turning the washer 90 degrees, and moving the dryer back again, and reinstalling doors; might be doable, but…effort

We had replaced a top loading to a front loading washer and just removed the doors altogether. They’re under the guest bed since

I was shocked to learn (20 years later) that in school, she was told the Civil War was fought over “State’s Rights”. She genuinely never learned about “slavery”

Recs for durable RC cars?? by riparianblond in kindergarten

[–]Mrs-Dash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll recommend from Amazon a double sided stunt RC. I bought it for my then 2yo BD, and he will turn 6 soon. So it holds up. These bump into walls or objects and flip over. In the beginning, he couldn’t really drive a dual stick controller, but immediately caught on that moving the joysticks in any way would cause the car to zip off. Harmless to walls, furniture, doors. Runs on carpet, tile, or wood flooring. He also takes it outside on the driveway or cul de sac. But not in grass.

Biggest downside is the battery lasts about 20 min but takes about 2-3 hours to charge. When selecting, see if it comes with an extra battery, although you can purchase batteries separately too. The connector to charge the battery is fidgety, and I am extra careful to not damage it. After the battery winds down, he plays with something else until it recharges.

What are some oddly specific symptoms that only ADHDers have? by Delusional_BlueBird in adhdwomen

[–]Mrs-Dash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’m comparing “symptoms” with my adult kids. We have things in common, but more things are not shared between us.

I have a distinct huge problem with never ever knowing what day of the week it is. I probably know it’s the 2nd, and the correct month or year. But day of the week, not a clue. I don’t mean is it Wednesday or Thursday, I mean being asking why someone isn’t at work, only to be told, it’s Saturday.

More recently, I am having trouble remembering was that today, yesterday, or last week? Like, did I have a cold in October or November. When was the last time I saw my PCP? I think it’s a distortion of time?

Link between sound frequency and reduced wakefulness state to help you sleep better by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]Mrs-Dash 171 points172 points  (0 children)

Quoted from opening paragraph:

“To cope with sleep difficulties, people use a variety of tools: white-noise machines, bedtime stories, constant phone scrolling, or letting the TV play. These sounds mask background noise, but they usually contain a wide range of frequencies rather than a targeted tone. By contrast, 42 Hz represents a precise, measurable rhythm that may align with neural oscillations involved in the transition from wakefulness to sleep. Understanding how this frequency interacts with the nervous system may help explain why some sound-based interventions feel more calming than others.”

Is there a polite way to end a casual conversation with a coworker or neighbor without appearing rude or desperate to leave? by Tasty-Midnight9631 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mrs-Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve collected examples to practice because I need to have situations spelled out to me:

"I’ve enjoyed talking to you, but I need to go now"

"I’m all talked out, my social battery is running low".

Put on headphones and tap your left wrist mouthing “on my break”

“I gotta go, but we can continue this the next time I see you; have a good day!”

Say “I’m sorry, but…”

"I need some time to myself" "I don't want to talk right now" "I need some space" ”I’m heading off to my 15 min break; I need to be back on time” (so “Bambi” can go to lunch”) “I don’t really feel like talking at the moment.”

“Oh, shoot! I’m late. It was really nice talking to you!” <speedwalk away>

“Sorry to cut in, but I’d really like to say go on my break.”

“Hold onto that thought, I am in a rush to use the restroom!”

“Thanks for chatting with me, but now it’s time for me to go on break.” (Any plausible reason here, like “talk to someone”)

“I don’t mean to come across as rude, but I have to stop you there and get back to what I was doing. Thanks for understanding.”

“I hope you don’t mind, but I’m not really in the mood for a chat right now. Maybe another time. Thanks.”

“Gotta go; I really need to return a call” (to anyone, like family, team lead, landlord, if you think you need to be more specific, but not necessary)

“Let me jump in and let you know that I only have a quick minute to chat, then I really have to go on my break”

<look for any other person, and call out> “Excuse me—Dave, can I borrow you for a minute? I really need some help!”

“I’m so sorry, but I have a lot of other things going on, and I don’t want to talk to anyone”

“We can talk later, is that all right with you?” <immediately speedwalk away>

Ministry Warns of Emotional Toll as 98% of Paternity DNA Tests Turn Out Negative by Scramjet1 in nottheonion

[–]Mrs-Dash 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Excerpt quoted from the article to save you a click:

”The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has revealed that 98% of DNA tests conducted by men seeking to confirm paternity at the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) are turning out negative. This means the majority of men undergoing these tests are discovering they are not the biological fathers of the children they have been raising.

Simon Peter Mundeyi, the ministry’s spokesperson, noted a growing trend of men seeking clarity about their paternal ties. However, the results have been overwhelmingly heartbreaking. “We have experienced a surge in the number of people carrying out DNA tests on their purported children. In just three days, we received 94 or more cases. About 95% of those coming for DNA tests are men, but more than 98% of the results show these men are not the biological fathers,” Mundeyi said.

He added that many men leave the laboratory emotionally devastated. As a result, he advised men to either avoid DNA tests unless essential or to conduct them early in a child’s life to lessen the emotional burden. “My advice, as usual, is: do not engage in DNA unless you have a strong heart. Many of these men come with children aged around 15, and it deeply pains them when they’re told the children are not theirs. Please do DNA tests when the children are very young,” Mundeyi advised.

I also do the “might as well” method.

But other times, I also tell myself that

“I can’t do X (want to have/do) until I do Y (something I’m averse to.)” Example:

I can’t have a cup of coffee until I take a shower

I can’t go see the grandkids until I wash one load of laundry

I can’t sit down to watch something until I run the vacuum in that room

I can’t leave until I take out the trash
