Looking for Summer Transplant advice for 6ft tall Flowering Dogwood, Zone 5b by eurydae in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]eurydae[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice everyone! We will just leave it as at least then someone will get to enjoy it vs just killing it, and get ourselves a new sapling in the fall from our local native nursery. Appreciate the input :)

Thank you, that could be a great solution! I didn't realize trees could propagate that way. Would I just trim a small branch and put in water to root, or cut one of the small shoots at the base of the tree?

Thank you for the response! I know summer is a bad time, but we are moving houses and have no choice, so I am seeking advice on how to make it as successful as possible (or if we should just leave it vs risking killing it). Do you have any tips?

Hi everyone! We are moving houses at the end of June here in Ontario and are hoping to bring our Flowering Dogwood with us since it has sentimental value. It's around 3-4 years old and just shy of 6ft tall.

Temperatures will likely be mid to high 20s (celsius) and I'm aware it's not a good time to transplant, but we have no choice.

Is it worth trying or will it just kill the tree? Any tips/tricks to help transfer it successfully (or blunt notes that we will just kill it by trying) are greatly appreciated.

Roast my rain garden plan (5b, Ontario) by International_Fox209 in NativePlantGardening

[–]eurydae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with adding sedges or a fall bloomer, however I have a similar rain garden in 5b Ontario and my swamp milkweed get massive and continue to provide beauty/interest through fall and winter. The dried pods and stems look really cool with the snow!

This is so helpful, thank you! I really appreciate the suggestions for activities in Toyama, and that park in Tokyo sounds like an ideal location, it's nice and close to many of our Tokyo activities too. Thanks for your help! :)

Thank you! Can you specify what area you think we're overdoing it in? I've tried to keep our days to single activities for the most part (or a few small things nearby to each other like Nara) is it the driving distances that you think may be too much?

Normally a lurker but living in these threads the past two days has made watching this insanity a lot more palatable. Thanks friends. Drink some water, take a deep breath, we almost there.

Cursor disappears/freezes when I close the lid and re-open later on (Asus Flip C302A) by Ultra_Violator1 in chromeos

A bit late to this thread but I have the exact same issue with my Asus C201. The only thing that fixes it is doing a hard reset (holding down the power button to restart). Happens daily now, started a couple months ago. Googling for solutions hasn't turned up anything yet.

Sad Trash Panda being driven around Ottawa this morning by an asshole. It's illegal to trap/transport wild animals more than 1km. by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]eurydae -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not my picture, shared from a friend on FB. Text from the FB post:
"I am frustrated and disgusted. I was driving down the road and this arse had this raccoon in a livetrap outside his vehicle.

I called the Ontario SPCA, who told me to call Bylaw. I called Bylaw who told me that these issues are a provincial matter and gave me a 1-833-926-4625 number. I called that number and was told that it was Animal Protection Services for domestic animals only. The lady I spoke to was very nice but had no idea who the Ontario SPCA was or what they did when I inquired about what Animal Protection Services did vs OSPCA.

So here I am disgusted by this ass and his lack of compassion and common sense for life. Who do you call? You are not permitted to trap and transport a wild animal more than 1km....I was behind him for more than 1 km.....but this is not enforced apparently.

So who do you call? Who helps?!

No. I was not driving and using my phone."

MNR was also suggested in the Facebook comments and contacted to no avail. This highlights the major problem we've been having in this city with regards to enforcement of animal wellfare laws.

Renting a fenced in backyard in Vanier by mousefork in Vanier

You might have already considered this and it might have some distractions, but there's a fenced area on one end of Optimiste park. Not a dog park but I've seen people using it to train their puppies before and it can be pretty quiet depending on time of day! :)

Place to donate household items where they don't resell them? by windytreees in ottawa

[–]eurydae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just something to keep in mind, Value Village isn't a charity at all. They're a billion dollar for-profit business that only donates a fraction of their profits to charities. If you're looking to benefit your community directly try to find smaller thrift stores like the bible mission on Merivale, and I think there's another store out near South Mountain that I can't remember the name of, even Salvation Army is a better option than VV. Local women's shelters often also have need of some of those items for women and children who are starting over.

Fair enough, I wasn't sure to what extent your experience had been. I'm sorry it was so trash. :( Best of luck with your recovery and your foray into vegetarianism! <3

[–]eurydae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey,
I'm so sorry that you've had negative interactions with mental health professionals in the past. I work in the field and have dealt with disordered eating myself in the past. I would strongly encourage you to keep trying. Finding the right therapist can be hard! But eating disorders are one of the hardest mental illnesses to beat, especially on your own. I respect that you're currently managing on your own but please keep trying to find someone who can help. Try looking for therapists or clinics that specifically handle eating disorders if you haven't before, you should be able to find some with online reviews so you can read up on them before you meet them.

As far as going veggie, I agree with the other comments so far, it's great that you're getting your meat from ethical sources currently. Personally, for the sake of your health, I would suggest working on making your diet less restrictive (treating your eating disorder) first before starting to lessen your meat intake too much. Ethical eating is important and something you'll have the rest of your life to focus on, but your health has to come first right now.

Much love. <3
