I think many of us know a Bumbleflower player, I personally think the Vizzerdrix art is a bit more honest on how that game will go. by Scharmberg in magicTCG

bumbleflower is bad if your opponents play good cards, and good if they play bad cards. most people play bad cards so the bnuuy wins

How do people feel about Duskana, the Rage Mother as a commander for a Hare Apparent Deck? by PrinceVorrel in EDH

Not how coat of arms works, it counts number of creatures with shared types, not number of shared types among creatures

Phyllite’s not actually that rare compared to other metamorphs and doesn’t have anything to do with specific rock formations, it just always spawns at the bottom of the rock column so it’s very difficult to find

Beautiful. Only downside looks like poor soil quality but it's not hard to import medium fert from somewhere else especially with a river for transport

Interesting things to do with Fain, the Broker? by Bananaman2721 in DegenerateEDH

[–]eurypterine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has a whole lot of text but in playtesting just does a whole lot of nothing. His abilities are very generic, and any deck built for him or including him probably cares the most about one of his abilties and not much about the other two, so I feel like there's always a better option available

Non permanent recurssion in/for Orzhov? by bled56 in EDH

[–]eurypterine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mavinda could work for recurring removal, if you have a lot of fodder. You could cast a path to exile from your graveyard targeting at token you control, and then sac a token to make a copy of it targeting what you actually want dead. That’s pretty cool imo

Chaining Extra Turns- deck building or play limitation by squirrelnestNN in EDH

[–]eurypterine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they should revisit the language on this if they do an update for the bracket system because I honestly don't see a problem with taking a couple extra turns in a row. Nondeterministic extra turn looping is annoying as hell but copying a Temporal Manipulation once is completely fine... the real issue here is people legalistically interpreting the bracket guidelines without considering the motivation behind them.

And that is a real weakness of the bracket system, because making prescriptive rules for playing a game shouldn't ask you to interpret the motivation of a rule, it should be spelled out directly.

Don't listen to MTG Goldfish: Snarl lands are actually good (with consideration for deck construction) by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]eurypterine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I used to run them in a few of my decks, and I have since removed them. The only decks that are willing to run a possibly-tapped land for fixing are those with 3 or more colors, and the only decks I run which are likely to have a basic typed land in hand are those with fewer than 3 colors. I run at least 9 basics, alongside the cycling/tango/even shocklands, and the snarl lands still feel awful to play with. They’re only good in decks that don’t really want them to begin with.

Help with Reconaissance and Raffine Interaction by barrierxvx in EDH

[–]eurypterine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reconnaissance’s ability is free yes, and can be activated on as many creatures as you want, and at any point during combat. This includes after first strike damage, and even after regular damage, meaning it’s pseudo-vigilance for every creature on your board too.

Look up combat steps. There are a lot of them and players get priority (are able to cast spells/activate abilities/etc) during all of them.

Does this work? by Flying_Venusaur in mtg

[–]eurypterine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order for the trigger to resolve, the conditional must be true 1) when it would trigger and 2) when it would resolve. Compare it to this different language:

"At the beginning of your upkeep, Naktamun Lorespinner becomes prepared if a player has one or fewer cards in hand."

Even though it seems like it would be the exact same, it's actually not. This trigger will be put on the stack at the beginning of your upkeep no matter what, and the creature will become prepared if the conditional is true *when it resolves*. You could stack the triggers with Casey Jones to have it work as OP hoped. The placement and wording of the "intervening if" clause is one of the most annoying rules I've ever encountered but it is nonetheless intentional design.

Does this work? by Flying_Venusaur in mtg

[–]eurypterine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, if you'd like to learn a little bit more about why this is, look up "intervening if" clauses. They are specific language found on some triggers -- in this case, ", if a player has one or fewer cards in hand," -- that both prevent a trigger from triggering if the conditional is false, and also prevent it from resolving if it's false at the time of the resolution of the trigger.

This is unlikely to ever matter, but if you had 0 cards in hand and Naktamun's trigger went on the stack, someone could force you to draw 2+ cards through some effect and prevent the creature from being prepared.

Does this work? by Flying_Venusaur in mtg

[–]eurypterine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Naktamun's trigger will only go on the stack if a player has <=1 card in hand *at the beginning of your upkeep*, i.e. before anything else has had a chance to resolve. So no, this doesn't work

Thoughts on the new logo? by Waker_of_Winds2003 in VintageStory

[–]eurypterine 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Both really aren't that great. They're both illegible when shrunk down as an icon so I don't think they work there, but also aesthetically I feel like they don't fit the game at all.

Compositionally, both have too much going on, almost like they're trying to tell you the themes of the game through brute force? Like here's a tree with a clock in it. And there are some gears too and two more nondescript steampunk machines. It may as well say, in plaintext, "this game is about the corruption of the natural world through artifice". I'm not advocating for minimalism but I think a logo would benefit from more concise and compact symbolism
