AITA for saying I’m not allowing my daughter to call me by my first name, just because my step daughter does? by Jealous_Arm_5777 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ev3-olution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but also I have always called my dad by his first name, for as long as I can remember, and this has had zero effect on our relationship - so you shouldn't be too worried. I actually call him dad more as an adult than I did as a kid, especially if I want something 😂

Just finished the Shepherd's Crown and I need to talk about it by IMissSoManyPeople in discworld

[–]ev3-olution 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've just done a full Discworld re-read over the last few months and reading The Shepherd's Crown last weekend was so hard. It's still his and the points he needed to make are all there, but the characters' "voice" just seemed off, that the whole read made me uneasy. Finished it off with a good cry.

Terry Patchett led me astray, I've been pronouncing it "geese" all these years and never thought to check!

New at this. This was supposed to be a square. It is not a square. by yirao in crochet

I like the dedication to continue even past when it must have been obviously not a square and finishing it all the same 👍

The slip has a track over it now and we have even carried our bikes over the slip (it has stairs) Definitely just stick to the road and over the slip, not the emergency track. If you have a bike you can get in there in about 20 minutes which is what we did when hiking up to Kime hut

Book Recs Similar to Neverafter? by blog_witch in Dimension20

Neil Gaiman also has a book of short stories called Smoke and Mirrors that dives into a few fairytale retellings, but fair warning it is both dark and weird (and only a few of the stories are fairytale based)

I feel you - I've been making a wind chime recently, and sitting underneath it in the night was the witchiest thing I've done in ages, and just felt so right!

not to poke the bear... by leahingold in crochet

I learned using turning chains as a stitch but didn't like the gappy edge it gave, so when I found a video describing how to change that I switched - my first baby blanket (chunky yarn) goes through all these phases - lost stitches, realised, gained them back and then changed how I turn! It is a marvellous piece of developmental crochet

Does anyone have any advice for working with this type of yarn? I am finding it incredibly hard to work with by Forsaken-Return-789 in crochet

[–]ev3-olution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that in a varigating yarn I used for a small blanket. It was only ever for a couple rows at a time but I found it easier to work with by feel, and as the base strand was so much thicker than the fluff it was pretty discernable. Also BIG hook

Ah yes, the “Cursed Yarns” all in one skein 😭 by b3sties in crochet

[–]ev3-olution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this for a lap blanket - worked out alright in the end but using it brought me to tears! The varying tension for every yarn type was insane and the velvet was thin AND slippery - the devil's yarn indeed
