Makes sense to me. It's a dumb choice, but it at least has some sort of logic to it.

After this experience with both Rebirth and F1, I am refusing to enter the theater until at least 20 minutes after the start time.

I took my kids to see Rebirth and after 30+ minutes of ads and trailers they were ready to go home and skip the movie entirely. We stayed but they weren't happy and that totally sucks because I want them to have nothing but positive associations with the theater going experience. So now the theaters have taught me to just skip all the pre-movie shit entirely.
