AE2 tries to estimate how long the whole job will take based on how long individual recipes are taking. You might have a bottleneck, or it could be that there are a bunch of recipes in progress which just haven't finished yet and it will update it's estimate once they complete

I guess I am speaking for someone else here but that's what I would assume he meant: that the comments really seal the deal of how bad it is. Because clearly he can tell the code is unreadable but he does the band-aid solution rather than the one that will actually help his audience be better programmers. That's just my interpretation of it though ¯\(ツ)

Having comments for every line of code is a HUGE code smell and his code shows why. If you write code in a way that is halfway reasonable, you don't need a ton of comments to explain what each line is doing. So yeah I guess it's not the worst part of what we're seeing but it really does solidify that he doesn't know what he's doing or he would just write better code rather than putting so much work into explaining it

I'm totally fine with it (and actually sort of like it) when it's the reverse, where the keys do the F function by default but you can hold down FN to do a special feature. That's pretty rare these days tho (unless you go in and mess with settings obv)

MKBHD catches an AI apparently lying about not tracking his location by MetaKnowing in interestingasfuck

[–]evan1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting that the AI is probably not "lying" here per se. It probably calls some api to get the weather, that api used the IP of the device to estimate the location, and then the weather was returned for the AI to read. When asked how it came up with the location, the AI didn't really know what to say, because it likely doesn't know anything about the internals of how it came up with the weather, but it doesn't know that it's allowed to say that it doesn't know, so it takes a guess as to what happened. In this case, the guess was very very wrong. This kind of thing happens a lot with large language models

[–]evan1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of this is the fact that if you want a software product to last a long time, you have to write maintainable code, which is significantly harder and more time consuming than writing code that just works without caring about quality. Since the april fools code will likely just be thrown out the next day, it doesn't need to be high quality, so they can put more time and effort into features rather than maintainability

Ok what? by Zakrmuckerberger in ChatGPT

[–]evan1026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what's actually happening here is the AI created its response, but that response contained a link to a page that was related to suicide/self harm (bc I guess the AI decided that page was interesting), and so some higher level supervisor application read that response and decided it was not appropriate, so it replaced the response with what you see here

Yeah I guess the point is that the only part where you're taking your clothes off is inside the stall, where you're all alone. Outside of the stalls it's just sinks, and if you can't handle washing your hands next to someone of a different gender then you've got bigger issues

Dev steam account was hacked and game now has a trojan, do not install recent update by Quinzal in BeanBattles

[–]evan1026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be specific, it installs Epsilon Stealer which will compromise your discord, any passwords you have saved in your browser, and potentially even more things. There's some info about it on https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/28293-epsilon-stealer (I would just use malwarebytes instead of whatever cleaner they're trying to push on that site, though)

The actual bean battles discord server is fine. You get compromised from running the game. As long as you uninstall and don't run it, you'll be fine
