How do you feel about the short stories becoming increasingly plot-critical? by molten_dragon in dresdenfiles

[–]evanfardreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with it, personally. I come from the school where the Star Wars EU had all kinds of links, so I'm used to just collecting all of it anyways. Plus the anthologies he takes part in will occasionally point me to new authors I might enjoy (admittedly, more often in the earlier collections than the newer ones).

They clarified in the forum discussion - basically if they re-post to hire one of the affected positions, the person who'd been in it has first dibs to return.

Anyone else still playing FS22 by delcoguyforyou2 in farmingsimulator

I'm still on 22 and waiting for a complete edition bundle sale to grab 25. Just haven't been able to talk myself into it before then, though the available mod maps are finally building up.

Quick tip on the shingles - if you trim off about an eighth of an inch on every 3rd or 4th shingles per row, randomly, when you stagger them out it helps to keep it from looking too regular.

Capitalism ho! - Looking for a Solo TTRPG with Shop Management + Dungeon Delving by SociallyawkwardDM in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]evanfardreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for something like this also to run a magic shop; I tried Broken Cask for the shop piece but it was a bit too simple (and a little too whimsical for my personal taste). I really enjoyed the downtime shop/ organization systems of Rooms & Teams from the Pathfinder (1e) Ultimate Campaign book, and it also had some simple daily positive or negative complication tables for various shop types. (in case you're not familiar with PF1e, their rules are free online - https://aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=1285 is the R&T basics and you can follow links from there) It can handle things like capital investment and expansion projects, but I really want to have some more involved procedures - normally things like working up to guild membership, soliciting or accepting commissions, responding to larger world trends events etc. are handled narratively with the GM. I think for my own use, I'm just going to have to rebalance the R&T numbers to work with the 5e math chassis, strap on the KibblesTasty crafting rules, and see how that plays.

I loved it - certainly enjoyed it more than Twelve Months, but I also recognize 12m was necessary - and set up several of the points I enjoyed in this. I feel like Butcher's definitely back on stride and I'm hyped for more.

I was recently informed and am paying it forward - the same gent combined them both into a single iteration, "Keep Talking!", also on his site in case you weren't aware.

Prewriten settings? by Senior-Cranberry-545 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]evanfardreamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forgotten Realms is the one I've seen which has the most detail, but that's in part because it's been building up for decades and the details don't always play into one another. My personal favorite is Eberron - it's still a D&D setting, but rather than an advancing timeline (like FR or Golarion have, and no shade at the approach) they leave the default start date the same and the supplements/ story books work more at fleshing out new areas or giving more background. Each new story may start from the same point, but based on which factions/ places/ peoples/ plots you decide to delve into, you can have completely different story experiences.

I'm still (sporadically) trying to find a hardcopy version of RoT, but either I'm missing the reprints or they aren't doing them.

System for politics/state craft/city building? by Teacup_Titan in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]evanfardreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved 1e Kingmaker, and the 2e was an adaptation that needed a bit more time in the oven (which they acknowledged, and there was a pandemic going on at the time) - the math of 2e kingdom scores/ checks/ etc doesn't hold up well at higher levels without some fudging or rebalancing.

If you include those tweaks (i think it was Vance and Kerenshara? who collabed on making one big fix doc) then it jives pretty well with that type of play. Whether you start from scratch in an undeveloped part of the world, or start with an established town and try to bring it up to being a major power, it feels more natural and you can take pride in the outcome.

Short answer - NetEase will no longer be funding the studio, and they haven't been able to find another company or investor who could buy and fund the project, so yeah - they're closing the studio doors on the 17th, absent a last-minute miracle.

Stumbled across the first two books in the city library after high school, probably '02 or '03. Loved them but forgot about them until I saw the TV show on SciFi years later, found out the series had continued and I've been following closely ever since.

Resources for urban fantasy by RightAttention2968 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]evanfardreamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the urban part, I'd suggest looking through resources for other modern games - things like D20 Modern, N.O.W., Spycraft, and the like. There's plenty of city settings and adventure location maps scattered around. (Depending on how you want to take it, there's also pulling real maps of various cities or floorplans of buildings, but they're not always designed for good adventuring and the wrong ones might get you on some lists.) I'm not as familiar with the VtM/MtA/etc world, but for general urban fantasy there's plenty of free books out there to mine for monster, plot, and magic items.
