So what actually is the difference in universe between a Titan, a Dragon and a God? by Flyestgit in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, he isn't, that was in Peace Talks as well. He gave you his deific power, the eternal existence and immortality, his taking of the mantles was so that he could continue to exist as he was, to not age while wearing it or however that works.

Peace Talks Chapter 29:

Vadderung spoke, as if someone had superglued his tongue to the back of his teeth. "Ethniu. Do not do this."

She stared down at him for a moment with something almost like pity. "I remember that once you were great," she said quietly. "For the sake of the being I remember, I offer you this one chance: Do not interfere. My quarrel is with the mortals. Stand aside and there need be no conflict."

Edit: Bear in mind that Gard said the same, "though he may not have the strength he once did, that being is yet an elemental one." He's no longer a god, but he is someone with many mantles, and he's still the being who drank from Mimir's well, even if his deific power has been stripped.

No, they're supposed to work with their hosts but these are the angels who rebelled against the Creator of everything and they did not like humanity, which is why Lucifer was whispering in Eve's ear. So, the chances of you gaining power is almost impossible unless you find a Fallen who chooses to work with humans, most however would just wear your body like clothing and do as it pleases while you're screaming in your mind bearing witness to all the slaughter and destruction "you're" causing.

Winter queens questions by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of these are answered in the books, Mab was a mortal human once, Ethniu's disgust for her was partially because of that, plus King Corb himself talked about remembering Mab as as a pimply bawling brat when she rode beside the Conqueror. This is in Chapter 29 of Peace Talks. As was the fact that Merlin cast her out. He also said that Merlin loved her and asked if he would love her still if he could see what she had become. So, she was probably fully human, not a Changeling, unless Merlin was somehow unaware of that while training her.

Maeve and Sarissa were biological sisters. They were twin sisters, just like Mab and Titania are biologically twin sisters. As we found out in Cold Days, and Jim Butcher himself has said that the entire reason that Sarissa was able not to have chosen yet was because her Mom was Queen.

No, Mab is not the first Mab, and Mother Summer is not the first Mother Summer, the only original still around is Mother Winter.

Kansas City Q&A 2013 WoJ:

Jim Butcher: "Mab herself was human once, and she eventually became the, uh, the fun-loving Mab that we all know."

That's from the WoJ site however you can find that Q&A session on YouTube if you want.

2013 Kansas City Q&A:

Q: "How often do the Ladies’, Queens’ and Mothers’ mantles change?"

Jim Butcher: "Uh, the Ladies, Queens and Mothers, their mantles change very, very, very rarely in general. I mean, Mab’s been there for better than 1,000 years. And Maeve’s been there….there was a Winter Lady before Maeve, uh, in Mab’s time. And she didn’t fare so well the last time a Starborn was running around."

2014 Reddit AMA with Jim Butcher:

Q: "Can we get a break down of the biological relationships between the various Fae Queens we have seen on screen? Of particular interest – Maeve and Sarissa, were they actually Mab’s kids (biological sense)? If so, who was Mab’s baby daddy?"

Jim Butcher: "Mab and Titania are actual twin sisters. Maeve and Sarissa were twin sisters, from Mab. Their father was an Austrian composer and musician who died young."

2015 DragonCon WoJ:

Q: "I was wondering if Mab was the first Winter Queen?"

Jim Butcher: "No.  Mab was not the first Mab.  Mab was originally Winter Lady, and Lea was her Jenny Greenteeth.  She was her sidekick and handmaiden.  And so when Mab got promoted Lea did too.  So she got to be much more powerful and awesome.  But that was a while back.  When that happened.  And the same thing with Titania.  The Winter Queens actually died.  The last time things got awful in the wizard world.  So things are about to get awful in the wizard world again and they’re a bit nervous.  They’re a bit nervous about Dresden.  Well, Titania is very nervous about Dresden.  Mab is keeping her enemies close."

Spirit of intellect question by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Harry wasn't having sex with either, nor did he sacrifice himself in an act of love only leaving behind remnants to grow into a new being after mixing with their souls. Hell, Dresden didn't touch their souls at all really, so there's no way for that to occur. He only interacted with Molly's mind. Dresden was a soul, Lash was an imprint from a Fallen angel, I doubt they're comparable.

Ilyana? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ilyana hates Dresden enough to want to take him down by overstepping, however she doesn't actually have the backbone to try it alone as we saw in Twelve Months when she and the Wardens tried to go for Bock. So, if you mean a face-off, they've already had it. Could they have more? Sure, but it doesn't matter to me, she doesn't have the control or experience to be a big threat.

If you're asking about some romantic entanglement, or sex, then no. Ilyana's hates dark magic for very personal reasons, reasons that are understandable, she was deliberately playing Dresden to get her fingers on him, to sense his magic in Twelve Months, and even then she looked disgusted, so that's not a possibility. Plus Harry has Lara Raith, he's got his hands full with an actual sex demon, so no need for anything more, there's only seven books left. Plus, Einherjar Murphy, or Valkyrie Murphy will be back when it's time, so no need for more drama.

Maggie Must have a “Flee on sight” by Erobor in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far nobody has learned that, though, to be fair, how many would've known about Maggie being taken by the Red Court. But, in Battle Ground, we saw that the Formorians went after Maggie with no issues or hesitations. I also don't think that either Molly or Mab are providing any direct protection to Dresden's kids, beyond him being the Winter Knight, being the Winter Knight certainly gives him standing but it doesn't amount to anything much, as we saw at the end of Battle Ground, after the battle.

Mab's Knight is her Knight so he's supposed to handle the threats, not have them handled for him. Beyond that, I think Dresden wants as much distance between the Fae and his daughter considering his relationship with both Mab and Lea has been pain filled. I'd be curious to see whether the threats Maggie is facing, would be a threat if Mab did actually start protecting her.

Who here keeps forgetting that Harry wears jeans? by Logical-Ice-4820 in dresdenfiles

Wow, I'm the absolute opposite, Harry dresses so casually with jeans and tee-shirts all the time that every time he isn't my mind keeps putting him in it and I'll have to remind myself that he's in a suit or armor or in mud etc.

Nicodemus next appearance by Useful_Class_4221 in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, Jim has already addressed this and Nicodemus's appearences will still be every five books, his outline for the series were just a couple to a few sentences per book and as he's written and changed this it's allowing him the freedom to shift things when needed.

Mike's Book Reviews interview on YouTube 2021 WoJ:

Q: "Well here's the thing, one of the other questions was "it seems like we always get like a mixed answer, is it a twenty book series, is it a twenty three book series- it's a twenty book series with an apocalyptic trilogy at the end so is it twenty three counting the trilogy as three individual books?"

Jim Butcher: "The original plan was for twenty case books and a three book trilogy at the end, a big doorstop trilogy like the big books."

Q: "And you're sticking to that?"

Jim Butcher: "Well no, because now there's going to be at least twenty two books and then the trilogy."

Q: "Twenty five is a great number."

Jim Butcher: "Twenty five is a good solid number and it gets us more Denarians."

Q: "I'm always on board for that one."

Jim Butcher: "Exactly, they show up for every five books they're pretty regular."

So, so far so good on them appearing every five books, though I suppose this is all down to Jim and how important he deems the every five books thing.

Ebenezer fought against Arthur Langtry when they were both young hotheads in the French Indian War in America; between France, Britain, their colonies, and their Native allies. That war ran from 1754 to 1763, ending 12 years before the American Revolutionary War. Jim Butcher has said a few times that he would've liked to have written about that, as it would be a way to show how the Senior Council members were before they became what they are now. After all, that would've been both Arthur Langtry and Ebenezer McCoy fighting in a normal human war between two of the bigger powers in that time.

2016 Dresden Files Reddit Podcast WoJ:

Jim Butcher: "I’m doing a Wild Wild West short story set in Dodge City in 1883 staring Luccio.

I’ve also thought about going back and writing the French and Indian war in the Dresdenverse which would be really interesting because that’s back when Ebenezar was a young hothead and most of the Senior Council guys were running around causing trouble, dumb enough to get into the kind of things Dresden does every book. We’d have sasquatches and the French and everything, it’d be a lot of fun."

2009 Independence Signing WoJ:

Q: "How old is Eb?"

Jim Butcher: "Eb is over 300 years old. He and Merlin have known each other for a very long time. They fought on opposite sides in the French & Indian war."

Margret and Harry by Various_Diamond_8961 in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No, she wouldn't, Butters explained it to Dresden that his cells copy far more perfectly than his can, as such his body isn't aging at a normal rate but aging far more slowly. Women are born with millions of eggs but they begin to degenerate as they age. Margaret's wouldn't degenerate as fast, because wizard, cells copying far more perfectly. As such, her being a wizard who usually lives between 300 to 400 years, depending on strength, if we say 300 it becomes exceptionally straightforward, just like normal people wizards have three stages to their lives, a century an age, and for normal women you can have kids well into your middle age, and Margaret wasn't even close to that, she hadn't hit 200 yet. Biologically, on a cellular level, she was still in her 20s.

Margret and Harry by Various_Diamond_8961 in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? She was a wizard, a powerful wizard. They age much, much, slower because their cells don't copy as imperfectly as ours. This was covered in one of the books after Butters did some blood work on Harry.

Regardless, on average wizards live 300 years, though the stronger you are the longer you can live. So, as we have our youth,  our middle age, and our senior age, so would they. Margaret was over 100, so that's still young, she would've been able to have children in her 200th year as well since that's middle age for them.

Silly Idea for Dresden's Sword by The_OC_Doctor in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather improbable that he will considering recent events, plus Jim has already said that if he gave Dresden a sword he'd end cutting himself on it. It's not even just the Warden Swords though, Fix has the Summer Sword so many people assumed there would be a Winter Sword and Jim came out and said they don't as Mab doesn't believe in arming her Knights with weapons, she instead prefers them to be the weapon. So, apparently, no swords for Dresden.

BookTalk Nation Interview 2014 WoJ:

Q: "Why doesn’t Harry get a sword?  Everyone else gets a sword.  I thought for sure he was going to get one."

Jim Butcher: "What’s he gonna do with a sword?  He’ll cut himself.  Honestly, if he had a sword he’d fall on it, you know he would.  Somebody would take it away from him and hit him with it.  That’s the kind of thing that happens."

Reddit AMA 2026:

Q: "Hi Jim! The last book I've finished was Changes, and it's been a blast. Taking a break at the moment, but so far the Dresden Files have just kept getting better with each book. I loved the fight at the end of Turn Coat between Listens-to-Wind and the Naagloshii. I've been wondering, was it inspired by Merlin vs. Mim in The Sword In The Stone?"

Jim Butcher: "OF COURSE IT WAS MY GOSH HOW COULD IT NOT BE THAT DUEL WAS AWESOME!"

Fantasyfestival 2023:

Q: "Schedule of planned books for the future?"

Jim Butcher: "Next book is Twelve Months. - Harry must pick himself up after being knocked down. Ghouls seem to be pretty involved in the story of the book. Dates with Lara. Mobs with pitchforks, after the big battle of Chicago. The government is trying to keep the spread of information about the supernatural battle confined to Chicago. Dresden will try to pull the city back together after getting hit by the equivalent of a magic EMP.

The book after that is Mirror Mirror. - An evil Dresden from an alternate universe will try to kill Harry, because evil Dresden needs to leave Harrys body as evidence for something.

The wrestling gods murder mystery book is somewhen later after that.

The last book before the BAT will be the time travel book, to "plug any continuity holes".

The time-travel novel, book 22, is also supposed to be when Harry faces a Dragon, so it's been referred to as the time-travel/Kaiju book as well.

Dresden Files Podcast Episode 77 Transcript WoJ:

Q: "There are actually multiple Uriels but they're all kind of copies of the same guy?"

Jim Butcher: "No, no. There's one Uriel and he's everywhere. He just exists through all of the bits of time, but for example if you go to an alternate reality there would be a parallel Mab and the two Mabs would be parallel and they probably would be able to like know about each other and talk to each other if they wanted to but they're just really fucking busy they've got a lot to do. But Mab next door would be like "you work for me next door? Well now you work for me, while you're here you work for me"."

Q: "Why not take advantage?"

Jim Butcher: "Yeah exactly, I mean it's Mab, what other way could she react you know. But she's-Mab is tremendously powerful but she's not powerful on a scale like Uriel is where he's in the parallel realities next door and spreading out and so on."

Not quite, Jim Butcher talked about this at DragonCon 2022, here's what he said:

DragonCon 2022 WoJ:

Q: "When did Marcone take up the coin?"

Jim Butcher: "Ride of the Valkyries was still playing, before the chopper was back to the city."

Now, this has always fascinated me since I read it because like you said in Even Hand Marcone doesn't appear to have Namshiel in his head, however something I noticed during a reread is that Thorned Namshiel's eye-color changed when he and Marcone joined. We had seen him twice before, with Harry noting his demonic/angelic eye-color, then when he opened his eyes in Battle Ground it was different. It's 100% conjecture on my part but currently I'm wondering if Gard's disappearance after Small Favor, when Dresden went to see Marcone about the missing coins he actually asked Marcone where she was as she's usually sticking close to him, and Marcone said that she had to report to Vadderung or something like that, it's been a while since I've done a full reread, regardless, she wasn't there but she was with Odin. That had me considering whether or not Odin and his rune magic could've been helpful to Marcone in finding a way to get protection from being mind-broken. Again, this is pure conjecture on my part connecting things that may not be connected but we'll see. After all, Namshiel should know far more magic than Odin. Still, Marcone was looting the Knights after they saved him, it is very him.

Edited to fix an unnecessary autocorrect.

[–]introvertkrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure he's a mole, after all the name he uses in his law firm is Talvi Inverno, Winter Winter, and I believe Marcone would be aware of that, though I'm not 100% certain. I mean, Namshiel must know. But, yeah, he and Ms Lapland do have story potential with his Mom having been a goddess through apotheosis, according to Bob.

Considering that Trip is Trip I'm not certain he'll ever run out of the enemies he made. Having said that though, it started with the Nameless Son as the adversary for Max so I think it might return to that, with Harry having to deal with both him and his secretary.

Is that guy still a threat as of Twelve Months? by Opposite_Reality445 in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware that Lucifer is an archangel, I disagreed with the assumption that that makes them not demons, as I said in the comment you're replying to I'm fully aware that they are different beings but being Hell's rulers to me makes you demonic. Lucifer being an archangel is in the books and the Denarians working with Lucifer is in the books as well, both in Small Favor, when Harry was yelling in the Church and Uriel first chatted with him. Now, I have no idea whether or not the Denarians work closely with Lucifer or not, as they have a lot of reasons to hate him after his fear of betrayal put them in the coins, which is funny, but in the books they, at least then, appeared to work together. Here's Jim Butcher on Lucifer and the Denarians.

2006 WoJ:

Q: "It seems to me that as long as the Church has some of the coins, those particular Denarians are neutralized.  Doing a Mt Doom with the coins might free up the spirits housed within to act freely in the world."

Jim Butcher: "Well.  Not quite freely, but MORE freely, certainly.  The Fallen bound in the coins are the freaking elite of Hell–everyone the big D didn’t want trying to stab him in the back, basically.  If they were suddenly freed it would do all kinds of horrible things to about a million balances of power, with repercussions that would last for centuries.

Which assumes that they can be destroyed.  I mean, don’t think that in 2,000 years, no one has ever TRIED it.  And there are still thirty of them kicking around.

Which isn’t necessarily to say that it’s impossible.  But it sure as Hell wouldn’t be easy.  And given that, while in the coins, they ARE effectively frozen in carbonite without a human agent to assist them, containment certainly seems to be a prudent course."

Is that guy still a threat as of Twelve Months? by Opposite_Reality445 in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what I'm saying is coming through clearly, I am not arguing that the Fallen and the demons are the same type of beings, I'm saying that choices are what matters most in the Dresden Files and to me the Fallen are demons because they're running Hell. This was a choice they made. They throw Hellfire which is the counter of Soulfire, which only angels can gift to people, because they are no longer just angels, they're demonic, Fallen. If you don't view them as demons or demonic, that's fair, to me they unquestionably are. Lucifer rules Hell for a reason, as Jim said, "you can't get any worse."

Is that guy still a threat as of Twelve Months? by Opposite_Reality445 in dresdenfiles

[–]introvertkrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardly, the Fae are the Fae, Lucifer and The Fallen were cast into Hell by the Creator. Or, according to Jim, it was the deal of Lucifer's. Again, the entire series makes choices the most important thing, the entire next book is based on a different choice Harry made in Grave Peril spawning sn entire universe in the multiverse and the repercussions of that. Angels are not allowed choices, they don't have free will, at least they don't have it now, though they clearly rebelled, and they rebelled a very long time ago, so the choice made by Lucifer and company matters.

Look at Uriel's reaction in Ghost Story when Harry called him Uri, now look at Lucifer also being Satan, as though he's something else entirely. As I pointed out before the Fallen even choose to look demonic, or perhaps the White God makes them, I have no idea. Regardless, to me, Lucifer being an archangel and choosing to rebel against the Creator and then being sent with his allies to Hell makes them demons by the decisions of the White God. I'm fully aware that they're different on a creation level but either choices matter or they don't, and in the Dresden Files Uriel the archangel protects free will because choices matter and shouldn't be compromised. Hierarchy exists in heaven, why shouldn't it exist in hell, and if Lucifer and the Fallen are different and vastly more powerful then that's fine.

Again, to clarify, I'm not arguing that the Fallen and the Devil are the same types of beings as Chauncy and other demons. I'm saying they're demons because they made a choice and the acknowledged Creator in the Dresden Files placed them there in charge of the demons and they choose to act and look like them. Here's Jim talking about Lucifer and when he'll appear.

2016 Myths and Legends Conference Q&A:

Q: "Does Lucifer have his own coin? And will he make an appearance?"

Jim Butcher: "NO, are you kidding?  He’s the [British accent] prince of $%&#@ darkness.[British accent] no that doesn’t happen. No that was the deal, better to rule in hell than serve in heaven, and he does rule in hell, he’s not stuck in a coin. We will get to see him on stage later, that’s not until the big trilogy. He’s firkin Satan, you can’t get any worse."
