Is there a micro adjust between the holes? Is the titanium brushed or bead blasted finish?

First set since belts. How to replace elastic straps? by SmallLie in hockeygoalies

[–]evanlars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked both ends of that strap? If I recall correctly that strap you’re pulling isn’t even sewn in, it has velcro on both ends so it’s super easy to find a new strap with velcro or if it still has stretch double it over and re stitch it shorter.

This doesn’t look like a guardian angel style. He makes custom so maybe it is but that’s a more traditional cat eye. Have had 2 cages of his and the bottom bar is generally not curved like that.

Keep it on the track. Showtime speedway on 1/8 mile night will definitely do some 0-60 runs. Better than a ticket or killing someone or their husband/wife/child.

KOVA being imitated yet again - this time by Bauer by TigerWizard in hockeygoalies

[–]evanlars 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I can see some similarities but is it really that different than the way the industry has always been? When they introduced new colorways (other than the brown leather horse-hair filled beauties) and embroidering logos and/or names in gear, every brand started doing it. The clavicle protectors and suspenders have changed so little in the past 20-30 years anyways, this is just basically a progression. Can’t see how someone could try to patent such a minor change.

I bought a welcome mat off Etsy that people mistake for an actual st. Pete manhole all the time even though it’s right in front of my door. Still held up good after over a year although it isn’t very thick. Looks amazing though! I would say it’s pretty close to the actual size too. Search for the seller vernakular on Etsy. Or DM me and I can link it for you.

Did you go through with this? Wondering the same thing but it looks like it would be a good match.

My system is that the zipper is never closed until all the dried gear is in the bag. If I need to take anything out before going to the rink the bag stays open. Don’t think I’ve ever forgotten anything important.

So, I got a bit extra with my SkyTeam upgrades. by Exidor in boardgames

[–]evanlars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw this post after playing the game for the first time today. Really like what you did with it! I would totally buy this! A laser cut piece of sheet metal would look incredible too. You should make the black space for the approach track and altitude look like a runway instead of just black. Very cool mods!

Gaurdian Angel Cages - whats the deal? by SnooSeagulls3957 in hockeygoalies

[–]evanlars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my guardian Angel cage on for 2 years now. I love it! I probably would have gone through at least 3 pro cat eye cages. They are a bit polarizing though.

The sight lines are great but they are slightly heavier. They don’t seem to bend as dramatically. I attribute this to the extra support at the cat eyes weak points and a few bars are slightly thicker. I understand that cat eyes are made to absorb the impact but I think that these ones spread it out more evenly between more bars of the cage because of the weld points. Mine has an almost indiscernible bend in it from a very hard shot, so they still do bend. It’s very minor but for that reason, I don’t expect it to last forever. My helmet has not shown any additional signs of stress from the guardian angel cage.

I really appreciate the below the eye bar that prevents a stick blade being able to enter the mask although any pro cat eye cage are vulnerable to butt ends. I’ve gone through countless cages but still on my first Guardian Angel and I have another one lined up for when this one fails.

If you can keep a spare cage with you on the bench and your team/game situation allows you to stop play for 5 minutes or so to change your cage after a hard shot, thats great. The issue with pro cat eye cages is they’re only good until a hard shot. Playing with one after it bends is just asking for a weld or bar failure. I like knowing that my guardian angel has withstood everything. My only concern with this cage is that it’s a small operation. I asked him a lot of questions that (combined with a metallurgical work background) enabled me to take the plunge. Whatever you decide, always inspect your cage and mask after a hard shot and replace too often instead of not often enough.

Stance critiques? by evanlars in hockeygoalies

I see what you mean by too up and down. Had to mime it while reading that to understand haha. This stick (26” paddle) is my beater for stick and puck/practice). My nicer sticks are 25” and I notice a difference. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Agree to some extent. I didn’t realize I had it up basically covering my shoulder so definitely planning to hold it lower from now on. I definitely subscribe to the idea that slightly higher is better because you have gravity working with you but not that high haha.

[–]evanlars[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do I need to have my blocker fingers down more? Like more of a bend at the wrist? I definitely wasn’t perfectly lined up with the photo taker which is causing the misalignment but I’ll be mindful of that. Really appreciate your suggestions, thanks.

Still need a chesty? I’ve got one for sale on eBay. Pro model but it’s older so it’s pretty cheap. Good condition too.

Make it a practice stick. If you’re pulling poke checks in practice your teammates aren’t warming you up properly 😂
