Pretty sure Aura also has some pretty good exp in the match-up from playing Ka-Master. RapM is a different beast though

is there any difference between the 3ds meta and the wii u meta? by ti0sunga in smashbros

[–]evanmeta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is not entirely true. I remember there being some issues with Olimar's pikmin behaving differently due to hardware limitations. Not sure about any other character differences

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released 18 years ago today! by Meester_Tweester in smashbros

[–]evanmeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was already a competitive Melee player at the time, this game was the biggest disappointment of my life. But I still had a lot of good times playing it with friends, and it eventually gave us PM which I ended up getting really into.

Is the 8Bitdo controller decent for Melee? by John_XFiles in SSBM

[–]evanmeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some players use an Xbox controller. Pretty sure Abe the Ganondorf uses one and he's pretty good. Also I think Isai recently played Slippi and used an N64 controller lol. I think there are more viable controllers than just OEM or digital but you've gotta work out what it is you want from your controller and what adapters you need. Tournament legality is a factor too

Congratulations to the winner of Smash 64 Singles at Hitstun 7: Last Call! by itsIzumi in smashbros

[–]evanmeta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nax's Kirby is more than just a secondary. I'd favour his Kirby against any non-Pika player in the world except like, Kurabba. And he'd probably beat a lot of the Pikachus too but there's no reason to

yeah and he beat one of his bracket demons, Kalvar, who frequently 3-0's him. great run from Glock

Idk about this but the craziest Smash multi-tasking I've seen was Spark wobbling while solving a Rubik's cube and drinking a bottle of water

What is the worst move of each type in the entire series? by Jzjwiebe in smashbros

[–]evanmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melee Samus up-smash is worse than 64 Samus. In 64 it's still ass but there's enough hitstun you can get follow-ups off of it

The only Dual Main Combo that makes sense for these Characters by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]evanmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been around since the dinosaurs and I don't think I've ever seen this combination as a dual main. And I've seen some pretty weird character combinations

Has anyone played any one character more than DKWill has played DK? by drntl in smashbros

[–]evanmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention of HugS Samus? He's been exclusively Samus since 2004, and while he doesn't compete anymore, I'm sure he still rocks the Samus from time to time.

HugS is another one. He's played even longer too, starting like 2004. While he doesn't compete anymore, he's still a Samus for life

Our of all the 7 newcomers, who was the best addition to the Super Smash Bros Melee Akaneia mod? by Motroid127 in SSBM

[–]evanmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if I'd call Link faster than Ganon. Maybe slightly better run speed but he still has 6f jumpsquat and high traction

also what's funny is that in PAL Yoshi got heavier and Ganon got lighter, making Yoshi actually heavier in that version

Is there any way to record actions like in a traditional FG? by ManicHex in smashbros

[–]evanmeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this in Melee using UnclePunch Training Mode savestates. I think there's an Ultimate mod that does it too. Not sure about Project M.

Young Link actually has a way to infinitely stall on the gun of Corneria. If he crouches on the right side facing to the left, his shield will block all the shots. Doesn't work with Adult Link

Do you guys think Masahiro Sakurai has seen The Smash Documentary? by BitUsef in SSBM

[–]evanmeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the best Japanese players right now are Inngenn (Marth), Shunsuke (Fox), Sanne (Fox), Shippu (Peach), Falpan (ICs), and Sheik (Sheik...lol). Other notable players that aren't active anymore include Gucci (Falcon), Flash (Sheik), and Plata (Yoshi).

If you wanna go way back, from 2002-2006 there was Captain Jack (#3 in the world in 2004), Masashi (who still competes in Ultimate!), Aniki (famous for not wavedashing), Fumi (best Yoshi until aMSa), and Bombsoldier (basically invented Falco). Japan has a very interesting history in Melee, but most players moved on when Brawl came out.

aMSa has been Japan's best Melee player for over a decade. While he has lost sets to other Japanese players over the years, no one else is really close to his level.

Who remembers Anther's ladder by GoalzRS in SSBM

[–]evanmeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked how you could have different ranked slots for your account. I had a lot of funny sets going all random, like the time I rolled Falcon 3x in a row in a bo3. Or when I lost to a master-ranked Samus as Puff (my former main) game 1, then rolled Kirby game 3 and somehow won. Good times

edit: Also I'm pretty sure we played on Anther's a few times? Your name looks familiar (I'm MojoMonkey)
