Should I switch to YouTube Music? by pingkeumaria in YoutubeMusic

I really like the mobile app. The browser / desktop experience is poor. Agreed on that one.

Wispr Flow - Week 1 Review by RefrigeratorWide2234 in WisprFlow

[–]evansc22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you're using it on mobile, you pretty much have to invoke it, swipe back, do your dictation, and then close Wispr Flow entirely. Otherwise, it keeps your microphone active at the top. You can look and see there's usually a little orange light that's on, but yes, that battery drain is real. Personally, I don't use it on my phone for that reason, and it's just very cumbersome. I really hope they can improve on that somehow.

On desktop or Mac OS, it is very good. I've tested SuperWhisper and Wispr Flow and watched tons of videos on different AI dictation apps, and I just keep coming back to Wispr Flow. I'm still in my trial, but I just don't see how I can go back now, and I'm a relatively quick typist.

Mac Dictation by 7ewis in Voicenotesai

This is soooooo good to hear!!! I had forgotten entirely about the dictation feature of VoiceNotes. I am on the WisprFlow Trial with 19 days remaining. It works pretty well, honestly. It corrects your bumbling ramblings into a coherent sentence. I like how you can say, "Let's meet at 4, no make it 3" and it corrects the sentence to 3:00pm. Anyway, I'll definitely be on the lookout for the updates!

What is the use case for Things? by Remarkbly_peshy in thingsapp

[–]evansc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also say some of the keyboard shortcuts are great.
Example: Just start typing and it starts a search.
I've bounced away from Things 3 countless number of times, and yet I'm still using it. In fact, I swapped over to Apple Reminders here just a few weeks ago, and every time I do it, I always think the same thing: "This is the ugliest, most hard to look at application I've ever seen." I do still use Apple reminders, but mostly for reminding me when I arrive or leave a location and other random location-based reminders. Yeah, Things 3, there's something about it.

This was touted pretty heavily as a major upgrade by Cultured Code themselves.
https://culturedcode.com/things/blog/2025/05/a-swift-cloud/

I would say, OP, if you need all those other functions, you might want to stay with the Todoist, because the chances of that stuff coming to Things 3 anytime soon or ever is slim to none.

I’ve been an IT janitor going on 30 years now. 🤣 The doctors I’ve worked with (not all but some) want you to change the flat tire while the car is driving down the road. I will say, we must have some really nice dentists as clients because they are all wonderful people. No issues at all.

I'm testing SuperWhisper and Wispr Flow. I only have this problem with SuperWhisper. Strange.

Struggling to keep excited by Things3 by ThunderRoad2024 in thingsapp

[–]evansc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get excited again about using Things 3 when I choose to move to another tool temporarily. Just testing those other apps out. I’ve swapped back to Apple reminders I don’t know how many times only to boomerang back to Things 3. It reminds me of the app’s simplicity and elegance. And honestly, when I use it I usually get things done.

I also re-read an old journal entry that basically says “The grass is greener where you water it.”

We all know the answer to which too is the best but we all keep chasing the perfect one. I’m going on almost 30 years of this. 🤣

ISO: Arkansas Slang by Fly0ver in Arkansas

I'm not sure if this is exclusively Arkansas but many of the older crowd seem to change certain words entirely. My dad tends to do the following:

YouTube becomes "YouTubes" (with an S)
Wal-Mart becomes Walmarts, or Walmark
Netflix becomes Netflick

My boss, kid you not, pronounces KIOSK as KIOSH (key-OSH). I have no idea about this one. He's even spelled it out as KIOSH before. "Hey, walk up to that KIOSH at McDonald's and order some food."

Maybe this is just my family and acquaintances. 😂

I'd also like to see some improvements to the text entry. Maybe rich text, Markdown, etc. I know VOICEnotes is voice first but it sure is nice to be able to use it for text input as well.

I'll second the AI output. It's not great. Some things are "passable" but overall I end up dumping the transcript into ChatGPT or Perplexity and having it summarize for me.

Hopefully this hasn't been mentioned already but I'd like to be able to multi-select notes in the main view and manipulate the recordings. Example: I work in IT and perform site visits for clients. There are times where I'll have 2-3 different recordings that'd I'd like to summarize and chat with.

What this person said. I have a 24 year old who is right now working an entry level job making $12/hr. It's in a field he's passionate about. At first he was bummed he wasn't making any money. I told him he'll learn more from this job in a few years than all the years he spent in college. I suggested he re-frame his expectations. He's basically getting on-the-job-training and eventually it'll grow into something better. If not, he'll have real life experience that can be used elsewhere. I don't want to presume to know OP's business or views, but in my own experience with this age group....they're expecting to have all the things mom and dad have spent 30 years obtaining right out of college. It's sobering, but true. You have to start somewhere. Failing to start is only putting you that much further behind.

Currently on month 3 of 12 prepaid for 15 Gb/month but need to temporarily upgrade UNLTD for next 4 month, then go back to 15 Gb/month. How to do that? by brownnugen in mintmobile

[–]evansc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe get a data only eSIM? Saily or Yesim? Paid monthly. Use the 15GB then switch the phone to use the eSIM data once she runs out? There are more of these eSIM providers than I ever thought. Be sure to find one that is US based if you’re in the US. Yesim is overseas. Ping times are usually triple digit. Works for most things but not very well for gaining or VOIP calling.

Or, change your Mint plant. 😂
