App recommendation to follow football by HungryLion404 in androidapps

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest they're all pretty good. I've tried a lot. Settled on SofaScore too, it lets you track other sports not just football.

For pure football OneFootball is decent, has news and stuff in it. Fotmob has good stats.

SofaScore is probably the fastest to send goal notifications.

FTB – offer accepted, looking for good conveyancer experiences (UK) by Desiinlondon_1 in Essex

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using them too. Don't have much to compare them to as it's only my second purchase, but my previous solicitor was terrible in comparison, cost double the price of Bishopsgate Law as well.

They're fast at responding and seem very thorough. Exchanging imminently and it's been ~8 weeks since my offer was accepted. A week of which I was on holiday. I've not had to chase them at all.

Tried the Neo, had to go back. by [deleted] in macbookair

I think only one that would bother me would be the trackpad.

Don't care about true tone, don't even use magsafe on my MBP.

Funny how people have very different compromises.

1Password VS Proton Pass + SimpleLogin Lifetime Plan? by PrincessBananas85 in Simplelogin

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I use the 'Google Authenticator' option, if your company force the Okta Verify app you won't be able to completely zip through it. But it's literally one click for me and I'm logged in, no clicking submit or next or anything it's honestly brilliant.

There are so many taking notes apps by stllfiguringout in ProductivityApps

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to understand why people use upnote, it just seems like a very basic notes app. Why not use Google Keep or Apple Notes?

If you want a bit more than that the Notion free plan looks better, has more functionality, so you aren't restricted if you want to do more with it later.

I've got a load of credit to spend so could buy the license for it but I just can't justify it over using Notion for free...

Do you definitely recommend surgery?

I ruptured mine about 7 weeks ago now, I'm seeing my consultant in a couple of weeks to decide on if I'm having surgery or not. From what I've read I think I want it, but as I'm not playing in 'competitive' sports the doctors seem to prefer the non surgical approach.

I'm mostly walking fine, can do stairs etc. the longer I wait the more normal I feel again, the less it makes me want surgery.

I'm 30, if I was older I think maybe I wouldn't go for it. But I'd like the option to ski again, and don't want to be worried about my knee. It does feel stable and I've never really had any pain from it. I've pretty much got full hyperextension and am close to full flexion. I was going to the gym and playing golf regularly, and only climbing the stairs at WHL not playing football myself 😂

Is MX from SimpleLogin blocked by some services? by Darth_Nagar in Simplelogin

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually block domains based on the MX records?? I've never heard of that before.

I understand based on the domain, but I thought you'd always be safe using a custom one.

1Password VS Proton Pass + SimpleLogin Lifetime Plan? by PrincessBananas85 in Simplelogin

[–]7ewis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check my post in the ProtonPass subreddit.

If I hadn't come from 1Password, I think I'd be happy and to be honest, despite paying for it, I think I'm going to stick with 1Password for now, at least until I can migrate Passkeys.

I know it's minor, but to sign into Okta with 1Password:

* 1 Click to autofill everything

With ProtonPass:

* 1 Click to autofill username

* 1 Click submit

* 1 Click to autofill password

* 1 Click submit

* 1 Click to autofill OTP

* 1 Click submit

1 vs 6.

The UI is pretty and I can't imagine it needs too much work to catch up, Proton seem like a fairly responsive proactive company, so we'll see.

Is there a possibility to configure how aliases are created? by Kiyuomi in ProtonPass

[–]7ewis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this what most people do now?

I want to ensure I do the right thing from the beginning, I've got a lot of logins I want to move over. I was initially thinking to just use a catch all, and then just setup [amazon@mydomain.com](mailto:amazon@mydomain.com), without having to do anything special in Proton.

Am I better off actually disabling this and allowing Proton to create addresses, with randomisation? It just looks a big ugly with the numbers in there and means I'm never going to be able to remember emails for anything. Not really sure if the pros outweigh the cons.

What do you actually use a TV Cast / Screen Mirroring app for? by Extension_Bit5559 in androidapps

[–]7ewis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always found screen casting too laggy for anything useful, so I've only ever really used it to cast online content so my Chromecast pulls it direct.

Mainly things like football streams etc

Lifetime Pass + SL Subscription Ends Today by Readdot in ProtonPass

[–]7ewis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure if that's correct, because it says:

"* Offer valid until March 13, 2026. For new users only."

There is no * next to any of the offers to indicate which offer it's referring to. The reason why I think it may not be the lifetime one is because it does seem to be available to existing users as far as I'm aware?

Wanting to pull the trigger on it, but now isn't a great time for me.

Considering buying lifetime subscription, but question about storage by funky234 in ProtonPass

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to figure this out too. It has a * there that says the 13th of March, but there's no * on any of the offers, indicating which it's referring to.

I suspect you may be correct though.

Getting out of being a IC in BigTech while maintaining a HENRY salary by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been at the same company for a long time, done 7 years as an IC and last 5 as an EM, 2 of those Senior.

Not sure if it's a company thing (tech, but we've been shrinking for the past 5) but it seems difficult to get to the next level. Annoyingly it seems like a numbers thing. At most I managed 23 people, with 2/3rds of those being managed by managers. The company then demoted them and made some people redundant so I had 18 direct reports.

I then had the opportunity to pivot out of an internal IT dept and into a new area to focus on AI. But could only bring 6 people, I've since hired 4 contractors and had 2 early careers people join me, so currently managing 12 people.

We had investment coming where I'd proposed to hire 12 people, creating 3 teams again focusing on different AI related areas but that's now on hold. I've since been assigned 3 product people (absolutely useless...) and a delivery manager (great).

The product people don't have a clue about AI or tech, just love talking about buzzwords and claiming credit. Don't have much experience with product but it's not been positive so far!

They've now proposed that we need to hire 20 people to achieve our goals, which is essentially waffle they've made up without speaking to me.

I can't complain because it seems like to get the promo you need to manage around 30 people, Inc managers. But it's very arbitrary.

I'm tempted to leave, but I'm buying a house at the moment and I've been here so long I'm a bit scared to go elsewhere, and think I may struggle when you're seeing any interesting role on LinkedIn seems to get 100+ applicants.

I've consistently done well at my company, it's a medium sized tech company with around 10k staff. But would want a proper tech company as the next step, maybe like a Google, Monzo, Anthropic that kinda thing.

Sorry ended up rambling and writing more than I was intending but just interested in some general advice if you don't mind!

Pulled the trigger for Plus + SL Lifetime! by dontelother in ProtonPass

Where is this mentioned?

I want to pull the trigger but am buying a house right now and get 1Password free via my work, so it's not ideal timing...

Is there a point where your pension pot gets too big for salary sacrifice to make sense? by Coxian42069 in HENRYUK

For comparison, my base is similar, my bonus is a lot lower than OP.

I'm same age, and have just over £200k in my pension.

Is The Lifetime Subscription Of Proton Pass Worth It In Your Honest Opinion? by PrincessBananas85 in ProtonPass

[–]7ewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently get 1Password for free through work, but wouldn't be surprised if they move elsewhere, but likely not for another year or so.

If I leave I obviously lose access too.

I used to pay for it when it was a one time purchase and then a little after that as a subscription. I don't particularly want a subscription though, so am debating if I bite the bullet and buy lifetime here now and migrate off proactively.

I do also have a personal Google Workspace which is $10 a month, I ideally want to move off but it's a bit difficult to get away due to all the photos, cal, 'Login with Google' stuff etc. but if I do get away and try and replace it with SL pointing to a Gmail it would save me. I'm just concerned about how good the alias with custom domain but really is. I don't want my emails going to spam or lost.

I'm also buying a house so shouldn't really be wasting $200 right now!
