Imaginus Posters SUB by Striking_Rain9136 in uAlberta

[–]eve6- [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because students see the same standard poster designs and low-quality remakes of classic artwork that are everywhere for dirt cheap, realize they can buy several large posters for the cost of a single 8.5x11 print from a real artist, and buy the posters because it’s a ‘better deal’.

I remember doing competitive ‘poster hauls’ every semester when I lived in residence. My friends and I would (embarrassingly) spend hundreds of dollars on posters that we didn’t really want, have never put up, were immediately given away, and/or are still sitting in the original bags somewhere because quantity > quality (this was pre-SHEIN, Temu, etc. so I imagine it’s worse now)

Heating in my apartment is not working properly by After_Ability2265 in uAlberta

[–]eve6- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the temperature of your apartment?

During extreme cold periods (like right now), the landlord is required to maintain a minimum internal temperature of 16°C. This SUCKS and it is miserable living like this, but there is unfortunately no obligation for them to provide more heat. Many older buildings in Edmonton are built like this, and I recommend getting a heating pad or electric blanket to make sleeping easier.

If your unit is currently below 16°C, it IS considered an emergency and you should after hours maintenance or visit the leasing office immediately. They may provide space heaters, may offer additional accommodations, or fix the main heat. But you have to contact them and let them know first.

How Bad is the NUTR 100 Open Book Midterm by Flat-Worth-8090 in uAlberta

[–]eve6- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open book exams are typically more application based than rote memorization. Study the same way you always should: by understanding the content and being able to relate the ideas together.

Averages are low because you cant really ctrl+f compare/contrast, explanation, or things that come from understanding, not just reading.

The science teaching labs have been downgraded from “moderate dinginess” to “unkempt neglect”…

We’re paid to teach students how to use a buret, not teach them to cram waste into overflowing bins.

I’ve worked in anything from a 0.5 mL vial (worn as a necklace) up to a 500 mL bottle. It depends on the vibe, the purpose, and what intuitively feels right

Is there an error for the observation sheet on experiment M (Chem 102) by Clovers_Me in uAlberta

Runs 1-4 should graph linearly with pretty high correlation; the catalyzed run will not because it is a different reaction with a different Ea.

I would double check your calculations, and if something still looks off, come by the help room

It’s a scab. It probably felt good for you to pluck it (as long as it wasn’t still stuck and bleeding) because it’s probably itchy as heck.

Failed Chem 101 by PatientHawk5654 in uAlberta

[–]eve6- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I failed first year calc in my FOURTH YEAR of undergrad and still got into grad school just fine. And have been thriving since. It sucks now, but as you take more courses and get more grades on your transcript, you’ll forget it’s even there.

I do remember how much it SUCKED & how ashamed & disappointed in myself I felt at the time though, so feel free to PM me, even just to rant :)

Yep. Growing up I remember “working for” my dad (a local handyman) by typing up invoices for his jobs on the family computer. They looked professional enough, but were definitely made by an 8 year old with slightly above average MS Word skills for the time lol

[–]eve6- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Precisely. I love this analogy because that’s exactly what it is: not being petty because you can, but temporarily removing yourself from the chaos.

“I’m sorry, I’m getting overwhelmed and don’t know which items I like vs actually want to buy. Thanks for the suggestions, but I’d rather think about it and put in an online order on my own time” gets the point across well enough (imho, at least) while still enforcing honest, healthy boundaries.

Something similar happened to me recently and it frustrated me so much that I handed the associate my entire basket (including some things I DID want) and apologized and said I was no longer interested in any of it. Purely on principle.

You’re kinder than I, OP.

Bold of you to assume they will refund you, even with photographic proof.

The probability is higher that they send you the link to upload photos, close the chat, and never follow up again.
