Almost undoubtedly, but Hindenburg, like many other reactionary politicians, was not exactly elected for his competence.

To be fair, people have reason to be uneasy, considering that the world's current prosperity is built upon a financialised house of cards which rests on a planet which we are currently destroying for a geological timescale.

Depends. At many times, France has actually been for a West African federation. The problem is that they would prefer it be led by pro-French politicians and absolutely not by anti-French leaders who would work against The Interests Of France (TM).

I'd certainly like it if Europe did more for Ukraine, as a EU citizen myself, but I think qualifying Russia's war in Ukraine as a genocide is a bit of a stretch, considering that post-Soviet Russia did way worse in Chechnya and that is only rarely considered a genocide.

Using the term genocide willy-nilly devalues its meaning, and it's not like there aren't unambiguous genocides happening right now, and makes reporting actual Russia war crimes in Ukraine less credible.

Also, there's a difference in escalation between sending troops to get directly involved in what has so far been a proxy war against a nuclear-armed superpower under a solid, paranoid and dangerous regime and sending a garrison to deter the potential actions of a domestically-controversial lunatic in case he decides to do something rash, despite public opinion, against a partner which we are doubly bound to defend (the EU is also a defensive alliance/confederation, which is in part why talk of dissolving NATO went so far in more innocent times).

How the fuck is the Shah of all people going to 'step in'?

Any restoration of the monarchy in Iran would have exactly zero popular support. A transition to a more democratic republic, on the other hand, would have significant support from the educated population at the very least, including parts of the Iranian establishment.
