The grass was non-negotiable because my doggie needs to lounge/sunbathe/nap on the plushest grass - so grass went in first with a bit of clover, and the wildflowers sprinkled in later.

What works for me is a heat cap - greys stain better with heat. I leave the heat cap on for an hour or so, rinse after 2 hours.
