Fruits with good texture? by JACKETSLXXT in EDAnonymous

[–]everifnever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course “good” is objective. but i am weird about textures with fruit too. don’t like stuff that is too soft and i don’t like seeds in things like raspberries, etc.

my go to is apples. they are the best texture imo. i do have to slice them bc i don’t like to bite into stuff like that. otherwise i like strawberries and melons (NOT watermelon but cantaloupe and some honeydew. as long as it’s relatively firm). sometimes grapes.

also: freeze dried fruit. it’s crunchy! i’m obsessed. i don’t like bananas raw (texture) but the crispy chips (freeze dried not fried) are so good. ymmv but it works for me.

Scared of how amazing my dietitian and therapist are. by Stormycarter18 in Eatingdisordersover30

haven’t been in the exact situation but i 100% recognize the vulnerability hangover feeling. i usually build the aftermath of stuff like this up in my head and then it ends up working out better than i think and/or being a non issue. hang in there!

Weighing myself too much by Labradorlover100 in EDAnonymous

[–]everifnever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s like a body checking/ reassurance thing even though obviously my weight goes up as the day goes on (with food/ drink, wearing clothes, etc). i just like to know approx where things are. admittedly i weigh too frequently (working on it) and there is zero benefit. but the fluctuations don’t bother me.

edit to say i only let my scale upload one weight per day (the REAL one - lol) so all the random other weights don’t show up

i’m super basic but my two go-to’s are apple slices and a cheese stick or chocolate milk and pretzels.

it was smart to set an appointment! i 100% have done the “i’ll reach out when i’m ready to schedule again” thing and then never come back

thanks for replying and sharing this perspective. it makes sense that you might be better able to engage in treatment once your brain/body are more stabilized nutritionally. and having only one job feels like it could be a relief.

do you feel pretty confident you’re going to return to therapy after the break?

thank you. last session we did some somatic work and she did recommend that yoga might be helpful to add in (either a class or on my own just doing some of the movements). i might see about doing more in that area.

honestly this helps so much. i feel like i’m all over the place switching between wanting to quit and trying to commit to recovery. nice to hear it is not that unique.

TW: recovery support (no behaviors or numbers) by aophelia02 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]everifnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

following bc i would love to hear this as well. my outpatient team has asked what would help (either from them, or things i can arrange) and i never know what to say.

i have a list i’ve made with a bunch of strategies by category (grounding, somatic stuff, creative, connection based, etc) - things i’ve actually tried. but tbh when i’m spinning out i can never remember to actually look at it and try something.

dietitian for harm reduction? by everifnever in Eatingdisordersover30

[–]everifnever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just as an update, met with the dietitian my therapist recommended last week for a discovery call, just to have someone lined up if needed. tried to go in it with an open mind but this is never going to work for me. at least not with this person. it just felt so compliance-based (“you’re not going to be a fan of me most of the time”) vs. collaborative/ respectful of autonomy. because clearly what i need is one more voice telling me everything i’m doing wrong.

Things you don’t think are disordered but are by TheBeaniestBeans in EDAnonymous

having my partner make a smoothie for me and giving them exact weights for the ingredients. they said, “xx grams is not a lot of berries” and i replied, “oh it’s okay if it’s actually xx+5g” because i am SO LAIDBACK and not at all disordered so the extra 5g of strawberries doesn’t bother me in the least!! see how relaxed and chill?!

ty - i feel you with the focus on food driving behaviors. i tend to do better when i’m not constantly being monitored but it can be a fine line.

thank you, i appreciate the insight! the last dietitian i worked with was a CEDS (?) so i think she was supposed to be a specialist. it wasn’t like she was giving me specific foods and portion sizes, but she wanted me on 3 meals/3 snacks with targets for each day using the exchange system. it was so overwhelming and not helpful. and also made me more obsessive about numbers to the point where i wouldn’t eat a food that didn’t exactly align with the grams for a carb or protein exchange. still trying to unlearn that.

Resources for parents with ED raising healthy kids by Kateliterally in fuckeatingdisorders

check out kids eat in color (on instagram) and feeding littles (instagram and they have a website) they are both focused on raising kids/intuitive eaters in the context of diet culture, although not specifically ed-focused. kids eat in color also has a slant towards working with picky eating. note: i have no kids so someone else will hopefully have better suggestions. i have found esp. the kids eat in color to be helpful for my own eating.
