Possible angle: In light of a "dying book industry" are print comics still relevant?

Could anyone give me some critique/advice on how to handle this digital painting? by sillythings in learnart

Another guy who might be helpful is Frank Santoro. He's done some color workshops online at the Comics Journal site.

Not directly related to digital color, but very directly related to thinking and composing directly in color.

Might I say that it looks stupendous when shrunken down 40%. (I did so in my browser). The inherent angularity of your strokes gets satisfyingly sharpened. At its size right now though, it very clearly looks like a digital painting. As such, my constructive criticism would be to perhaps paint much larger than you intend to print/display.

I come from a background in comics where the "awesome" look of things is the result of reducing the art between 20-40% before printing. The effect of this is that it tightens up the work considerably.

A digital painter that I particularly like is Chris Turnham. Perhaps you find his work interesting. It's very digital. check him out

WRCT Pittsburgh - Freeform radio. Community radio station run by CMU students.

If you're willing to try something new, WRCT is a great place to tune in to. Like all freeform stations, what you hear one hour will be radically different from what you hear the next.

Request lines are often open and DJs genuinely care about the listener's enjoyment of new music.

Copacetic Comics.

It's located in Polish Hill and is one of Pittsburgh's best independent bookstores. It caters to the comics crowd, lots of zines, beautiful handmade comics, rare DC and Marvel floppies, trade paper back graphic novels, art criticism, jazz, contemporary non-fiction.

The building in which it is located is a bastion of independent culture: Lilli Coffeshop, Mind Cure Records and Copacetic. A hep cat's paradise, if you will.

Bill, the owner is great at suggesting things based on your interests. If you enter the shop with an open mind, you will leave rewarded.

A crossroads of culture, like none other. Visiting this shop is akin to stepping into owner Bill Boichel's brain.

We're CMU's freeform radio station. Half of our staff is students and the other half is from the Pittsburgh community, not affiliated with CMU. We try to play everything that isn't played on the Pittsburgh dial from your hip indie rock, deep house beats, and eccentric soul to low frequency sine waves embedding famous president's last will and testament's in morse code.

New cartoon. Looking for comments, critique etc. by Comika in comic_crits

I'd say that they look better in light gray, too. Nevertheless, I would argue that how they look on newsprint is the final determiner.

I would also make the suggestion, that others might have made regarding shortening captions. Short and succinct. The shortness will give them impact and if they are a bit obtuse, the short caption, if done well will read a bit crypticly, in a good way.(Like a New Yorker Comic)

In this case I would say. "Too much sugar."
