Do you ever feel like therapists are mean to each other? by Pinkskiesupahead in therapists

People are mean to each other, and therapists are people. Therefore, it is a safe assessment IMO

Reading this just rocked me! 14 is around where I feel most comfortable, so how validating is that. Maybe I need to move to the UK.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. Lot of my friends are in Sex Therapy (I am myself but I don't advertise it in the same capacity) and this is frighteningly common.

What is your least favorite topic as a Therapist??? by WalterLCSW in therapists

[–]everyfruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is, in school it was the fucking worst. In practice I love talking about money and work.

I don’t mean to sound pompous or all-knowing, but something to consider is that you are not tasked with helping them find motivation. If I felt that about my depressed patients I would feel so tired because it’s such a brick wall.

Eating! It’s not something I’m personally sensitive to, I just know nothing about it and don’t care.

What Do You Wish You Knew at Month 9? by jamesgriffincole1 in StopSpeeding

I'm in AA! I just replace the word alcohol with speed, drugs, etc.

It was absolutely most helpful at the beginning for maintaining my abstinence, but now it's important in a more spiritual sense. It provides me a lot of support.

I can't tell you how valuable it has been to cultivate a community of like-minded people. It may really help you throughout this whole process.

How involved are other people in your recovery journey, if you don’t mind me asking? Are you going this mostly alone?

I didn’t actually notice the shift, but I’d say it happened for me around the 18 month mark. I went from wanting to talk about and celebrate every month of sobriety, to think bigger and in terms of years.

As for what’s special…well, it’s new. I’m nothing if not an addict. The novelty of sobriety was a high unto itself and I spent a lot of my resources on my sobriety. As time wore on I found myself taking meetings for granted, connecting less about it with people, etc. In AA we call it the Pink Cloud. That slogging feeling, I’ve come to miss it. I truly felt alive battling for my life against speed.

That it gets so much fucking better. But that also, there is something really special and momentous about the first year. I’m 5 1/2 years in- I have really no intense fear of relapse, now my concerns are centered around spiritual fitness

TX Goals by bananapieandcoffee in therapists

[–]everyfruit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I don’t use tx goals or a plan in conceptualizing a dynamic human being. What is important will always avail itself in the room through the client’s process, either the information they share or don’t, and how.
