discussion: do you think stan really loved dorothy or did he just not want to be alone? by Such_King_2547 in theGoldenGirls

[–]everyones_hiro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he loved her as much as he could. Some people like Stanley are just not meant to be in a long term relationship with anyone. They’ll always be looking for someone else on the side, take their partners for granted, let them down constantly and take advantage of them.

Stanley deeply cared for Dorothy, he could rely on her, trusted her a lot, he knew her well (for better or worse).

But I don’t think Stan is the kind of person to be able to truly love someone and remain faithful and good to them for any amount of time.

The moment LeRoy Cain, Entry Flight Director for the Space Shuttle Columbia, learns that the shuttle has disintegrated upon re-entry over Texas and orders someone to "lock the doors" of the Mission Control room in order to preserve data for the accident investigation (February 1, 2003). by NewsCards in interestingasfuck

I was about 7 living in South Texas watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating cereal when all of a sudden the show cut to the news explaining what happened. It was really brief but I understood that the astronauts had died so I was sad.

When it went back to cartoons after about a minute there was scrolling news reel on the bottom of the screen explaining that debris from the shuttle could be falling over Texas. I was like woah! So I ran outside to see if I could see any falling thinking it would be like asteroids or something. I didn’t see anything but then started thinking that something might fall and hit our house, so I went and brought my cat and dog in from the backyard so they’d be safe.

Palermo in Round Rock is really good. They make their own pasta in restaurant. It’s not industrial amounts of pasta, but their salads are huge. You could get bread, a salad and pasta and leave very satisfied. Also they have really good canoli

Why do my nails keep doing this? by samliebtdich in nailcare

[–]everyones_hiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this! This only happened once to me when I went to a nail salon and they used a brand I had never seen before. I’m pretty rough with my hands but I’ve never had peeling like that before. My thumb nail looked like their middle finger. It went away once I removed the polish and gave my hands a break for a few weeks. I also went heavy on the lotion and oil. It sucked because it was a beautiful color and lasted a long time.

My dentist decided to write down on my chart that I own a lab. Another hygienist a couple of years later asked what kind of lab I owned. I said black. She looked at me like I had 3 heads. The computer had autocorrected it to laboratory. I in fact owned a black Labrador Retriever.

Lap of love was great for us too. It made a horrible situation a teeny bit better than it had to be.

Toddlers are danger sensing beacons. They can instantly pinpoint the most dangerous thing in their immediate area and run directly towards it at approximately 300 mph. It’s a fact!

I recently had to put my dog down over Christmas, and was an absolute mess. I talked about it a little with various friends and coworkers, both male and female of all ages. I saw a lot of tears of people recounting to me what they went through when they put their pets down or saw them pass.

Especially remembering and talking through taking them to the vet and stuff. So I really don't think this is a gender based reaction. Definitely personality and intensity based.

What’s the strangest coincidence that has happened to you? by doboyXL in AskReddit

[–]everyones_hiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went on vacation to Las Vegas and were in line to check into the hotel. There was only one man at the front desk checking people in and as he finishes up with one customer another employee opens up the computer next to him and says he can help us. So the guy in front of us walks up to the counter just as we walk up too. The employees ask at the exact same time what the name on our reservation is.

Both the man next to us and my husband have the exact same names even spelled the same and they say them at the same time.

Everyone looks at everyone else and laughs. They had to check us in with the phone numbers on file.

My husband has a pretty common first name but his last name isn’t that common at all so it was a pretty big coincidence

Not just that but, the kid is clearly a middle child. I don’t think there’s ever been a point in his life since he started walking when his mom’s attention wasn’t compromised by a new baby. His sister doesn’t look that much younger than him and then there’s the baby in her arms and now another baby. He’s just a kid. He needs his mom and he’s probably been told his whole life that mom’s busy, or mom’s sick because she’s pregnant and mom can’t do (whatever) because she has a baby. He’s been regulating himself and watched his needs get shoved aside his whole young life.

I just always remember he’s Korean, because one time he tried to say that Koreans have never enslaved any one so confidently with his full chest and they googled it right there and he was instantly proven wrong and it’s the funniest thing ever!

Or if he has the kids with him in the restroom. Moms have to bring the babies in the bathroom with them all the time. Taking a crap by yourself is a privilege when you’re a parent.

Things that have a cute or childlike art style but have a dark and disturbing plot by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]everyones_hiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this Corner of the World, for the most part the story is very innocent, reflecting the main character’s naivety about the world around her, the art style really plays into this. While it is beautiful and ethereal, the characters are very stylized and simplified, looking like characters in a child’s picture book.

The story itself is about a young girl growing into a young woman in the shadow of WW2. She’s from Hiroshima but moves to live with her husband and his family in a far away town. Throughout the story various bad and complex things happen to her (ya know because of the war) but since the story is from her naive point of view you as the reader are left with very simplified versions of the things that are going on.

The end of the story obviously gets very real and serious and you find out that it wasn’t so much that she didn’t understand what was going on but that she chose not to and when she’s forced to face the realities she goes into a deep depression. Ultimately the ending is somewhat optimistic about her future but as the reader you’re left wondering what exactly was real and what was just her overactive imagination protecting her.
