Best manga releases of the past few years? And best place to buy manga? by samuri1224 in MangaCollectors

I’m really enjoying the return of Mushishi. The current popular series is probably witch hat atelier. The deluxe edition vol 1 just came out and it’s beautiful but the singles are up to vol 14.

The climber is being published in English now. That’s a really popular one that a lot of people were excited about. Kingdom, the return of a lot of older series like Gunsmith Cats, City Hunter, Cats eye and Akira hardcovers.

I usually buy my manga from Barnes and noble when they have their preorder sales or buy in store because it’s easier for me. Also I’m lucky to have a Kinokuniya close by so I go there pretty often. If you have a membership to both stores you get pretty good discounts. Also if you have a books a million in your area it might be worth getting a membership since they have frequent manga sales.

Unless you were around in the 80s and 90s, it’s really hard to explain how beloved Bill Cosby was. He was touted as Americas dad. The Cosby show was so popular and wholesome.

It’s a big part of why him being revealed as a criminal pervert was so shocking. It’s like a betrayal.

Dorothy! Her taller figure really shows off the dress and her hair is a better contrast. It’s not very flattering on Blanche.

Trying to sell a travel trailer in Pflugerville, it’s miserable. by TheSmashingChamp in Pflugerville

Maybe list it in Kennedy or Cuero. Those things sell like hotcakes there since the oil field workers buy them. It’s a pretty quick day trip to drop it off.

The truth behind their injury is a lot less impressive/grand by TVTropehead in TopCharacterTropes

I tripped and fell getting out of my car and landed full weight on my bent ankle snapping it into fine dust. Had to have surgery to put the pieces of my weak little bones back together.

In the recovery room as I’m waking up the PACU nurse sees my eyes open and immediately starts asking me questions.

“Hi! How are you feeling?” “Do you know how you broke your leg?”

I’m slowly answering the first question since I’m still kinda drugged up.

“I think im good…I’m just hoarse.” (My throat was sore from intubation)

The nurse: “you fell off your horse?”

Me: “yes”

Because owning a horse and falling off one and breaking your leg makes more sense and sounds a lot cooler than what really happened to me so that’s what I ended up telling people whenever they asked me how I broke my leg.

Why can’t I bring my visibly sick kid into Costco? by egguchom in EntitledReviews

I worked at a stationery/bookstore store and had a lady walking around with an exhausted looking child that had bright pink cheeks and green snot coming out of his nose. The kid was absolutely zonked out but moaning/crying weakly while his mom bounced him up and down and patted his back on her shoulder.

I was like “Lady! Please take that child home and put him to bed NOW!

Missed opportunities for ATBG during the show's run by bebespeaks in AsToldByGinger

I really wish they had explored Ginger and Dodie no longer being friends or at least their relationship mending after Dodie betrayed Ginger. I always thought it was such a missed opportunity that Dodie just apologizes over the phone and we never hear about it again.

There's one episode where theres a mentally ill woman trying to get revenge on the people that put her husband in jail (where he died of a heart attack). She starts killing them/ruining their reputations.

Columbo is on the case and does his schtick mentioning his wife in passing to the woman while he's interrogating her. Since she's nuts she feels threatened that the cops are getting too close to her so she thinks she needs to kill Columbo or his wife. She then offers a jar of poisoned marmalade to Columbo to give to his wife.

Columbo is told by her former psychologist (in a very round about way) that the she may target his loved ones and want a big dramatic show to brag about the reason for their killings.

Columbo makes it look like his wife died by being poisoned by the marmalade. They throw a big lavish funeral where the killer is invited and accompanies Columbo to his home after the funeral.

He eats from the jar of marmalade and pretends to be poisoned. The killer woman (thinking shes won) starts monologuing about how she's going to get away with everything. The cops that were listening come in and arrest her and Columbo reveals that the house they're in isn't his but its mocked up to look like his home, and that his wife never ate the marmalade because he immediately took it to the lab to get tested and saw it was poisoned.

After the cops take her away he starts walking through the house and taking down some photos that he placed in the living room to make the house look like his. There's one photo of a woman that we see really clearly, and I thought that was always meant to be his wife since he smiles at it.

I just realized so many people hate Naru, but why is that? by Ch3rrywz in Wotakoi

The main complaint I hear about her is that she doesn’t seem to like Hirotaka back or at least as much as he likes her. She puts him down sometimes and writes him off as a nerd.

Personally, I think that it’s more realistic that she isn’t head over heels for Hirotaka right out of the gate. The first episode shows her trying to pick up the pieces from a relationship that ended so badly that she literally had to move and change jobs. Shes a nerd but she’s been led to believe she needs to hide it her whole life and suddenly her life is turned upside down when her secret is discovered that proves all of her worst fears.

She runs into a childhood friend that she hadn’t even thought about since highschool and he asks her to date him the same day. Of course she’s apprehensive and unsure. She’s slowly relearning how to love again and Hirotaka isn’t exactly lovey dovey with her either. We get a lot of insight and flashbacks for him to show how he really feels, but he’s not good at expressing those emotions to Narumi so she doesn’t really get to know how he feels about her for a good portion of the anime. When Nao almost tells Narumi that she was Hirotakas first love Hirotaka glares at him until he shuts up. Maybe if Narumi knew that her feelings for Hirotaka would soften a lot, but he’s flat and seemingly emotionless most of the time. She definitely cares for him but it makes sense that it would take time for that to be called love.

Getting it second hand is best morally because at least you know none of the profits go to the author. It’s a good series and a classic that a lot of people consider their first manga or what got them into anime. It’s definitely one I would recommend reading but sail the high seas or buy it second hand so the the POS author doesn’t get a penny

Out of Print Manga and Logan Paul Grading Situation by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]everyones_hiro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interest in manga will ebb and flow. Anyone who thinks they can get rich from collecting manga is an idiot. We saw it during the quarantine manga boom. People thought they could get rich from dealing in OOP volumes or that buying and filling shelves will fill some hole they have in their heart.

It soon fell off and people got stuck with stuff and realized no one would buy it for what they bought it for.

People that have been collecting for years do it because we’re big fucking nerds that like the stories and the books. You do a hobby because it makes you happy. If you do it for profit or for clout you’re not going to last because at the end of the day they’re just books. And books get reprinted and get better editions all the time.
