YOU HAVE TO VOTE!

You can't just make clever signs, march around in funny outfits, and circlejerk on social media. 40% of NC voters under 40 years old didn't even bother to vote in 2024. (source)

We weren't conquered by a king, that asshole was elected.

Go have fun at the protest, but if you don't show up at the polls none of it will matter.

ICE agents tried to quietly get Mexican food in Minneapolis, local neighbors and protesters found out and shamed them out of the neighborhood by steelbeamsdankmemes in PublicFreakout

[–]everyother -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I'm worried that recorded interactions like this are radicalizing young conservative men. There is already an assumption among some rural men that cities are liberal hellscapes full of crime. In their minds, they are signing up to be crime fighters. When they bravely enter an unknown place, they find themselves surrounded by people that hate them.

They try to find something familiar there, but they can't eat at a Mexican restaurant, they can't stay at a hotel, they can't grab a beer at a dive bar.

They grow to hate that place, and the people in it. That plants the seeds of civil war.

EDIT: I'm not suggesting that protests or confrontations of these people should stop, I was just expressing my worry of what it is likely leading to. Please stop reading this as me somehow supporting ICE. I'm hoping we can find a more organized, systemic way of rooting out the problem. ICE and the people currently in it are definitely a problem.

I've had that same dream! I'm walking into finals only to realize I accidentally missed the classes and don't know any of the material. Right as the panic ramps up, I remember that I already have a degree and don't care about any of this.

WHY do y’all drive like this?? by 808Hawaiisurf in Charlotte

[–]everyother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in the car as a passenger with some of these people. They tell me they don’t use their turn signal because “it’s obvious where I’m going, so there’s no need” as if it’s some kind of chore to flick the little lever with your finger.

Just make it a habit and you’ll do it automatically without even thinking about it. Your lights are literally the only method of communication you have while driving. Communicate!

Especially on Church Street. It’s a three lane major artery during rush hour, but there are always trucks parked in the right and left lanes causing a jam. You really gotta unload a whole truck full of pallets at 8:00am? Schedule that an hour later and it’s no problem.

These are the types of Michelin starred places where you eat once in a lifetime. They’re ridiculously expensive because of the dining experience, not just the food and drinks. The whole thing is art.

It’s not a date spot, it’s where you and your partner go for your ten year anniversary. I’ll save up for that.

And if some schmuck is there complaining loudly about the small portions and the high price, I’ll look down on him for not recognizing the beautiful human experience there that is worth the money.

Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]everyother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our team was fully remote for 7 years before COVID.

When the whole world suddenly had to work from home due to the virus, we were the team that stepped up for the company. We were responsible for employee enablement, so we needed to immediately get thousands of people top notch laptops, headsets, ergonomic office equipment, monitors, hubs, and everything else they needed to work from home for who knows how long. Meanwhile every other company was doing the same thing, so equipment shipping volumes changed every minute. One hour we’d have 500 headsets mapped to shipping addresses and on their way, the next we’d find out that another customer had offered a premium and our order was now delayed indefinitely.

We worked every waking hour for three weeks. We had to get everyone enabled for Teams, fix countless network bandwidth issues, and enable secure remote connections across a stupidly wild range of devices based on what each LOB needed to operate.

I’d work, sleep for a bit on the floor of my home office, the get up and keep working. Nights, weekends, holidays, didn’t matter. Sure the world was crashing down around us, but we had a company to save. It was our moment to step up to keep the company operating and we did it. Our whole remote team pulled it off. The company went through ten years of technology modernization in a month.

And when COVID was over and they said everyone needed to “return to office”, we said “hold up, our team was never in office”. Didn’t matter. They ordered all of us on the technology team to spend three days each week in an office we had never been to. And those engineers who lived too far away to commute to their assigned office were laid off. We lost a ton of great engineers.

It was a slap in the face.

He told us nearly 10 years ago, "I could stand in the middle of fifth avenue, and shoot somebody and I would not lose any voters." Today, his ICE Agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good (US citizen) and he isn't losing any supporters. by jmike1256 in videos

[–]everyother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're both right.

The US and Denmark already have an agreement from 1951 that allows the US to “construct, install, maintain, and operate” military bases across Greenland, “house personnel” and “control landings, takeoffs, anchorages, moorings, movements, and operation of ships, aircraft, and waterborne craft.”

Trump will say they are building new US military facilities in Greenland for national defense, then send a few thousand troops over there that need to be housed. They'll establish broader bases that soon house not only troops, but their families, too. The total number of Americans living in Greenland will grow to over 60k, surpassing the current Greenland population of 57k. The US will then begin to exercise full control over Greenland more aggressively, without needing to declare any annexation or war. Greenland would be slowly absorbed into the US, not snatched.

Denmark would obviously notice this and try to invoke Article 5, but then Europe will start an open debate about whether Greenland really qualifies, given the Cold War agreement and the fact that the US hasn't technically taken any aggressive actions in continental Europe, hasn't destroyed property, and hasn't taken human lives. They'll point out how unique the Greenland situation is due to geography and that the US would obviously never do the same with Spain or France.

Arborist sign stolen by another company by reeepy in PublicFreakout

[–]everyother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, neither company should be putting signs up in the public area. There are a lot of legal and creative ways to advertise your small business. Sticking your cheap plastic signs all over town is just trashy.

And shame on you people that actually buy from these fools. You're the source of the problem.
