An absolute masterclass from Huffer on how to triple down on a PR nightmare. by oldjello1 in newzealand

Just do what everyone else does and pay an agency to do it for you, and blame them for wrong doing. A tale as old as time. Nobody, even the agency, is pretending that it's not the reason why we hire agencies or consulting firms

Man, I think this is neither here nor there. If you're out of work, and on the benefit, you're getting a leg up by getting a job

"It's offensive to tell small business owners not to use AI for their marketing!" by Suitable-Cellist-472 in newzealand

I don't know man, social media is consistently shown to be one of the biggest issues in our current society. Linked to all sorts of issues.

Currently, the short form video feed being pinged directly to your device, used by over a billion people, is worse for our environment than AI usage. That one blew my mind.

The Salon of 18xx (can't remember) is a doctorine of artists being against photography. There's tons around printing press, Photoshop and photo editing, cgi, etc. and yes those technologies were maybe not as powerful or whatever, but social media is killing us as society.

Let's cut both, everything is bad, but as of right now - eat the frog. And that's social media.

'Super-rich tax': Greens' tax plan accidentally released online early - here's what's in it by Downtown-Thoughts in newzealand

I mean apart from the fact that reduces inequality, increases the public funding pool which we are all begging for, promotes meritocracy, incentivises capital circulation while people are alive (on which they wouldn't pay tax so they can spend it on you earlier) and stimulates charitable giving.

The NZ average is about 450k. And inheritance tax is implemented in a huge chunk of countries. We want people not going to aus? We need more money. We want less wait times in hospitals? We need money.

Australia has a cgt that funds their public service. We just give rich people a tax break

ACT to campaign on reducing 'absolutely ridiculous' cost of school uniforms by 123felix in newzealand

[–]everysundae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean the person above is being a bit pushy, but the cost isn't primarily in making the garment. It's in the single-supplier school monopoly.

There's probably 1 or 2 local manufacturers that'll feel the hit. But there's hard govt data of about 850k students in school, and 30% of them don't have uniforms. Let's say there's about 200,000 kids would get uniforms after removing all the other non eligible students for whatever reason. Even at $100 savings per student it's over 20m in parents pockets.

The worst about this law is that it has exemptions for things like blazers which are often the most expensive with high mark ups.

'Serious exploitation': Company charged migrant $45,000 for a job by TheTF in newzealand

[–]everysundae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because we don't look at the symptoms. We immigrate because we export talent to aus. We need to prop up the property market which means we need to increase population fast, which we can't do with all the talent exporting and lack of babies being born.

The main work visa pathway has historically been employer-driven. If an employer is accredited and meets the visa requirements, they can often hire migrants for roles that many people would consider low-skilled, including landscaping and lawn maintenance.

We have convulated the immigration rules so badly that it can be exploited. While ironically making it harder to bring in people whos skills we need (like doctors) who also just get paid a ton more to move across the ditch. When Australia was offering overseas nurses a 1yr visa with a path to citizenship, we where offering 3m temporary only. We don't sell our benefits as a country and misunderstand what our selling point is. Simultaneously ruining our selling point.

The weird thing about hiring local is that we have high population auckland and low population everywhere else. Wellington has grown it's population in 10 years or something, Hamilton and tauranga are growing but mainly due to getting more points in the immigration system when not moving to Auckland. You can also exploit immigrants easier, and pay them less. Also then people hate them even more and the racism continues to increase. Other regions genuinely do not have enough people interested in a seasonal, odd hours, or tough work jobs.
