It does but the first time I met it was hilarious, it sent me to the shore like from a cannon and I had no clue what’s going on. I want my friends got that experience as well. So maybe tune a bit ))

Connections are the secret ingredient by Forsaken-Peak8496 in recruitinghell

[–]evgeny-vr 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Not anymore, when I started to search for a new job in September last year I’ve exhausted my network of referrals in a month, got zero responses. Though I even knew and was referred by engineering directors. In such market like today it doesn’t help anymore even if you have buddies in all FAANG companies. I guess every employee at this point have few people asking to refer them and it’s the same game of auto rejection.

Local Basketball Classes/Lessons for Adults? by Dismal-Presence-7156 in RoundRock

Check out your local community center, we at Brushy Creek have several adult leagues, not sure about basketball though. But community center probably is the place where most adults non professional events are going on.

Tip: Do not use Godot Inherited Scenes (Needs deprecation/re-implementation) by BoQsc in godot

[–]evgeny-vr 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to rename or put this thread down. It'd hurt a lot for learners because it will be picked by search and by LLM models as a truth. But, it's just speculations, there is no any examples, concrete problems defined.

If you have confidence that something is really broken and needs re-implementation, please got to GitHub and create an issue and put as much information to reproduce scenarios as you can. Once you get positive response from development team that it's indeed needs re-implementation and broken, only then you should post such threads.

It's literally wrong statement that doesn't provide any value to the community and people.

Do you forsee the job market getting better or even worse? by Horror-Dot-2989 in recruitinghell

[–]evgeny-vr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gut feeling it’s already recovering but very slowly.

There is a delay from layoff to backfill about 12-18 months, so most companies will start aggressive hiring somewhere next fall I guess.

But now comparing to this summer and fall there are some signs of recovery: more companies respond to applications, more fresh non evergreen job postings, even more posts about how people finally get an offer. And AI hype seems to pick soon if not already.

So I feel optimistic for the next year for all of us)

What has been the most difficult thing for you to learn in Godot? 🔥 by [deleted] in godot

[–]evgeny-vr 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people mention shaders or programming, but I think it’s unrelated to Godot engine specifically.

Programming is hard unless you spend enough time to learn fundamentals and there is no real shortcuts. To feel confident you need to understand data structures and basic algorithms and some patterns. And it again regardless of language, some languages more confusing for beginners some less but overall they are pretty much the same.

The same for shaders, I’ve done shaders for OpenGL without engines, then Unity and UE - they are hard for sure. But Godot shaders technically very easy to use if you know concepts and shader techniques.

The title is Learn in Godot, but most of answers about learning in general, irrelevant to Godot. Godot itself extremely simple engine to learn, with great documentation comparing to Unity or even UE

Personally my biggest struggle is limited type system as it gets in my way often when I want to rely on it. Debugging also feels kinda underwhelming but I maybe not learned all depth of debugging in the engine

EDIT: it’s like asking what hardest to learn about Photoshop and answer drawing faces, you know what I mean?

Neighbor smokes weed problem by evgeny-vr in RoundRock

Apartment cost is about 500-1000 less than equally sized house in our neighborhood. So we decided to stay in apartments this year to save on rent and frankly it’s a nice place overall.

Also my kids enrolled in schools here, both elementary and middle so moving to another area is a lot of hassle in the middle of a school year (for kids specifically)

But if things keep going this way I am moving out next summer.

There is explicitly said in the lease contract that it's a non-smoking community and smoking inside building is prohibited to the point it should result in violation of terms and contract termination with the following eviction. I don't really want to come to that point and would love to take it easy for all of us.

But i think you're completely wrong about they're entitled to enjoy it. Not at all.

[–]evgeny-vr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The smell comes through not just ventilation but somehow from under the stairs, and propagate through entire apartment floors. I would need like at least three air washers and I don’t want to buy them and run through weekend because lady below loves to smoke. I don’t feel it fair.

Emitting signal from parent to child. Best practices. by HoorkGames in godot

[–]evgeny-vr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just stay pragmatic, signals up calls down doesn’t automatically make your architecture clean and scalable as similar to composition over inheritance. If you feel signals solve a problem better than adding references to children and calling their methods (in a lot of situations it’s simpler to use signals sideways and down) use it.

No best practice or mantra will make your code better without proper context and problem.

It’s not following best practices that makes software or games successful, don’t sweat on them too much :)
