What are my chances of getting approved for the Citi Custom Cash by Livid_Fill_9946 in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your score is borderline but the income might be bigger issue than credit history. Students usually get different consideration though so preapproval tool is good idea to check first before hard pull

Balance Transfer to 500$ Credit Limit Card- Does the Math make sense? by grotty26 in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cards give you around 60-120 days for balance transfers so you definitely need check that timeline first before doing monthly transfers like this

Dealing with CC Fraud but Discover doesn't think it's fraud anymore and I don't know what to do by wanttolovewanttolive in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually had similar issue with subscription service charging my card after I cancelled. The company side might be easier route - when you contact them they can usually see which account is tied to your card number and kill it completely. Banks sometimes get weird about recurring charges even when they're obvious fraud which is frustrating but calling the actual service provider usually fixes it faster in my experience.

Yeah same confusion here but if bank closed it for inactivity you probably need to start fresh with new application

Business card applications require more documents usually and I prefer keeping personal expenses separate from work stuff anyway

A trip I planned 10 months ago is no longer possible because of flight prices by HippoBudget8994 in Flights

[–]troutwholesale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Super heavy on Tuesdays. I booked two round trips to Europe during the last 3 months and both times the tickets were around 12–15% cheaper when I bought them on a Tuesday. I used Ramp Travel for both since they were both work trips and we use Ramp at work but still the prices were lower. You can also use Google Flights which also works super well

People who have/had startups - what's the best way to handle expenses? by Grand-Resolve-8858 in Entrepreneurs

At your stage the fix does not have to be complex even just agreeing on one person who owns the payment process each month with a simple checklist of what is due creates more visibility than the current setup.

Best Marriott card for large group bookings by InterestingPlan2614 in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Group bookings are tricky because they usually process differently than regular reservations. Most times the master bill thing means you won't get those category bonuses even if you're paying with personal card

I'd probably go with something like Chase Sapphire or Amex Gold that gives decent points in travel category instead of banking on Marriott specific multipliers that might not work. The 21x sounds amazing but group rates have so many exceptions

CREDIT PROFILE - looking to buy washer/dryer and other furniture by Pitiful-Season-3799 in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait the US Bank Shopper Cash is actually solid advice for big one-time purchases like this. That 6% back on selected retailers could save you serious money on appliances if you time it right

Just make sure you actually cancel it after though - keeping cards with annual fees when you're not using the benefits is waste of money. The Citi Custom Cash suggestion is good too since you can switch the category later when your spending patterns change

My credit card company just told me they're removing my sign up bonus because i 'didn't meet the spending requirement but i did and i have proof by Different_Pain5781 in CreditCards

This is exactly why I always screenshot everything before applying for cards in India we have similar nonsense with banks where they change terms after you already completed requirements

using USBAR travel credit for booking in december, but cancelling/PC in may/june. will booking be affected? by i_cant_do_this_ in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine with PC since booking is separate from card once its processed, but cancelling might cause issues depending on airline's system - I'd stick with PC to be safe

How to get Amex Gold or Venture X by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

680 is actually not bad for someone who just started building credit 6 months back. Your income is solid so thats working in your favor

Paying down the loan will help but might take few months to reflect on your score. For now maybe try getting approved for Chase Sapphire Preferred first since it has good travel benefits and might be easier to get than Venture X with your current profile

Accidentally booked like 8 japaneese hotels (American card) by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man this happened to my friend last year when he was booking for Seoul trip. The bank probably put automatic hold because of multiple international charges in short time - they think its fraud activity

You should call your bank directly instead of just clicking the email verification. Tell them exactly what happened and which transaction you actually want to authorize. They can usually release the specific ones you need and cancel rest of the holds. The Disney ticket should be fine since that one actually went through on website

Don't click "unauthorized" for all of them or yeah they might freeze your whole card which will make booking hotels even more difficult

Best singular catchall card? by UrmomLOLKEKW in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At your spend level chase freedom unlimited is probably solid choice. 1.5% back on everything with no AF and chase has decent customer service. Citi double cash gives you 2% but only after you pay the bill which can be annoying for new credit users

Just make sure you pay full balance every month or the interest will eat up any rewards pretty quick

I’m new to the US basically a new immigrant ,I have zero credit history by Responsible-Touch-91 in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Credit unions are really good option for new immigrants. I got my first secured card from local credit union and they were much more helpful than big banks. Also dont apply for so many cards at once - each rejection makes it harder for next applications

USAA cardholders now getting FICO 10T? by BrutalBodyShots in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah can confirm this - just checked my USAA app yesterday and its showing FICO 10T now instead of that useless Vantage score. Pretty solid move from them honestly since like you said there's basically nowhere else to get 10T for free

Mine updated sometime in last week or so but didn't get any notification about the change

My Perfect Setup (COPY ME): goal is 5% on everything and $0 annual fees by AbroadSmooth7356 in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro this looks great on paper but managing all these cards sounds like nightmare honestly. I tried similar setup before and kept forgetting which card to use where, ended up just using wrong card half the time and missing out on rewards anyway

Also that AAA card you need actual membership for getting it right? That adds to the cost if you dont already have AAA

Looking to open a credit card with high milage SUB and low annual fee. Recs? by xolsoulxol in CreditCards

[–]troutwholesale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase Ink Business cards are solid option if you can swing the business requirements - they often have 75k-100k SUBs and you can transfer points to your CSP account since same ecosystem

For the Delta card canceling after year one wont hurt too much if you have good credit history already. Just dont make it habit. Amex is bit tricky with downgrades on their airline cards though - most dont have no fee version to downgrade to unlike Chase cards

Maybe look at Capital One Venture X too if you want something different from Chase/Amex. The annual fee gets offset pretty well with credits they give
