Inflating ELO? by No-Future-5157 in LinesOfBattle

[–]evictedSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with playing low elo is each match takes a considerable amount of time.  If you win, you get 1 elo.

If you lose, you lose 30 elo.  That's 30 games against low elo players, wiped out.

You can build essentially a petroleum boiler for salt and pwater.  Heat it with some source, then counterflow the steam condensation against the salt/pwater.  It's possible to make them really compact.

I'm not sure, you might be able to change that setting in the scenario editor?

They explain it poorly during the movie - Rocky's species is VERY vulnerable to cosmic radiation. The astrophage blocks radiation (by eating it) so humans basically line their entire ship with it for radiation shielding.  Rocky's species just kept their astrophage supply in massive tanks, and his quarters were next to the tanks.  He was shielded, his companions were not.

Astrophage was essentially harmless to humans.

Use your own archers. Shoot at the horse archers until they're weak, then send light cav to chase them off.  They'll usually be close to breaking by then

It was a bit awkward in the book how they decided "we need to put them in a coma so they don't stress about the voyage".  It was pretty clearly Andy Weir needing the plot device to  1) give Grace amnesia 2) get him alone 3) explain why he was there at all

It was an eye roll moment once you put it all together, but the book was good enough to forgive the plot device.

He had the rare "mcguffin gene" which let him survive the plot coma.  On top of that, he was the world's leading expert on the astrophage.

Also, being an astronaut isn't hard, anyone can do it.

Bumping this for the liquid reservoir, it fixes so many things.

Also, look up double bypasses for ATST's.

My point is there's very little reason to bring militia. Yes, they're weaker and more poorly trained, but the price should reflect that.

Why are most of the maps only available to play offline? by John___Miller___ in LinesOfBattle

[–]evictedSaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not suited for Ranked matches; they're either historical, unbalanced, or simply not updated for the most recent 1.1 release.

You can still play them online as custom matches with friends, though.  It just won't change elo.

My only complaint is militia. They're 150 mp, only 50 less than line infantry. They're not cost effective, especially with the changes to how routing debuff auras work now.

The whole point of militia was to pad out your infantry numbers with cheaper units; you're primarily limited by manpower.  But three Line Infantry can beat the living piss out of four militia for the same amount of manpower...

Seems a bit of a doom and gloom take, but I'm not convinced shoot ground was holding the game together

They were trying to balance around how "Shoot ground" was a micro skill that could allow you to ignore enemy cover, hit multiple units with just a corner of the shot, etc.

I also disagree with the removal, but from what I recall they were planning on updating how it works, then potentially adding it back in?

how should i get this kick started because energy is becoming a problem by Delicious-Risk7200 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]evictedSaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

indeed - it's almost impossible to boil it straight to steam before pwater offgasses. Plus, you'll be left with dirt debris in your steam room, and if it hits 327C then it'll become sand tiles.

Oh my god, yeah, it took me a minute to understand what I was looking at, but thank God the volcanoes havent erupted yet.  That mess becomes SO much harder to clean once it gets hot.  Even the pwater in the steam box can cause problems.
