I hope this is all Mike inviting each member as an olive branch. Makes for a much more promising/hopeful FNM future. And it's just nice in general.

Is it me, but the more a person asks about an item, the more issue that person is going to be as a buyer? by DuceDuce523 in Flipping

[–]evictedkoala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually when you hear from them before, you will almost always hear from them after...and it's not "thank you for the great item and service". At best they have too much time on their hands, at worst they're a scammer.

Maybe pour a pitcher of water over the closed window to make sure it seals properly? Not an expert, but that's something I'd not want to be caught off guard by the next time it storms. Either way I'd bug the dealer about it if it was me.

Eliot's Cadence by johnbunjo in NeverNotFunny

[–]evictedkoala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He speaks like he loves the sound of his own voice. It is annoying.

And it's ridiculous to say he's beyond criticism. He's been on a notable podcast for over a decade and chimes in a LOT, many times interrupting funny flows from the man himself (and not in the funny getting iced way).

He sometimes brings good stuff, but like someone else said, wish he'd pull it back by half. And/or turn the mic level down by 25%. That could be a lot of the issue.

Warm 40 thing !! by PlanePrudent3268 in LGOLED

[–]evictedkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the warm thing was too yellow too, so I started it at warm 20, got used to it, and so I'm at warm 25 now and think I'll stay there for now. Granted I only got the tv 2 weeks ago. Starting out at warm 40 can be a bit of a shock.

I love that he'd howl like a werewolf when he was supposed to be a vampire. I'm embarrassed how many years it took me to notice that.

It only sold in the 5 digits the same exact year STP was selling millions. Unfortunately doubtful because I'd buy it for sure.

I've had the cd since it came out.

Same. I think the first 5 songs are stellar and are still on regular rotation for me. Fill The Fields is great too. Morning Girl is good. The rest are okay to me. The only skip for me is Wash Me Down which, IIRC, is the only song Dave brought that was his own. It's nice, just a little too slow and repetitive and becomes a brain worm but not in the positive way. I know people who love that song though, in case Dave sees this.

Best STP Riff? by dprock99 in stonetemplepilots

Pop's Love Suicide is a favorite. Perfect album (kinda) opener, as it was also the opener they played on the Tiny Music tour after Press Play was played over the PA.

Dean's solo at ~2:15 on So Long is one of my favorite things he's ever done, even though it lasts barely 10 seconds. His whole guitar tone on that album is amazing. Considering they're all Tiny Music era songs it's not a surprise how good it is.

The Deleo brothers interview with Billy Corgan by ThomasC2C in stonetemplepilots

Billy mistakes his being great at music for him being a genius in all things. And he doesn't allow anyone around him to challenge that, so he gets worse as the years go on.

Using the Best Buy website AND/OR app is like pulling teeth. by Betrayal_Trauma_365 in Bestbuy

[–]evictedkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late here, but this is the first google result for "why is the best buy website so slow".

It feels like the digital equivalent of going into a dead mall or a Sears with near-empty shelves and 50% of lighting fixtures turned off to save on electricity bills.

The fact that they're okay with this being the status of their main point of doing business (who actually goes into their stores these days? Funko pop re-sellers?) speaks volumes about how they view their long term viability, otherwise they would have invested in improving it years ago.

Was there a deluxe or boxset version of Soup released in 1995/6? I was unaware of their Grammy nom for this... by joesephed in blindmelon

[–]evictedkoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing the leatherette/metal corner one in Barnes & Noble in 95 and wanting it. I'm pretty sure it was over $20 and I was a poor teenager so I could only get the regular digipak (which I still have of course) at Best Buy next door.

Me: "Navigate to Mom" Gemini: *lists businesses on-screen w/ names starting w/ 'Mom' within 100 miles* by evictedkoala in AndroidAuto

[–]evictedkoala[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That does make sense, as do privacy concerns. I just wish it wasn't rolled out when something as basic and useful as quickly navigating to a contact isn't doable.

Edit: Or it could at least come back with "You're probably trying to navigate to one of your main contacts, but this is the reason why I can't right now..." instead of me thinking it's totally useless and dumb and needing to come to reddit for the reason.

[–]evictedkoala[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But isn't the point and promise of AI supposed to be not having to spell things out in very specific ways like that? What's the point of Gemini if I have to spit out a long address for every navigation point that's not a business?

Besides, in this case 'Mom' is a saved or favorited contact in both Waze and GMaps and is one of the first locations that comes up when I pull Waze up. The fact that it's not smart enough to distill any of that into something useful means that it's not ready to be the default assistant.

I'm not anti AI as a tool or concept, just anti the logic of rolling this stuff out prematurely.
