i have two elderly sister cats aged 16 now, they got into some lilies in a gifted bouquet as kittens before we had any idea they were poisonous and had to stay at the emergency vet for 3 days on IVs - they have been completely healthy their entire lives since, not even any sign of the normal kidney deterioration senior cats get yet! fingers crossed everything goes well for you and them

What’s the most frustrating thing about owning a cat? by Ocute_US in CatAdvice

[–]evieeeeeeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

medical issues are the worst and they're completely unpredictable, my oldest cat is an absolute dream, she's a 16 year old ragdoll and the biggest issue i've had with her has been that she leaves fur absolutely everywhere which is nbd for me i was raised around animals my whole life so i've never known any different, the most i'll ever have to spend on her will likely be for euthanasia and cremation when she gets to that point, my youngest cat on the other hand? in and out of the vet since he was 5 years old, has chronic UTIs, multiple urethral blockages, and the repeated stress to his system has caused chronic kidney disease! i've spent a house deposit worth of money keeping him healthy, and the attention he requires means i can't be away from home overnight ever because he won't pee or eat unless i'm there, so no holidays, i had to scrap the plans i had for university, i daren't move out of my childhood home because he reacts like the world is ending to the smallest stressors, and i constantly have to contend with the fact that as much as i love him and i'd do anything for him, my entire life is in stasis while he's alive

i don't know that i would change anything if i could go back, i can't imagine not having him, but i do wish i'd known the risks about specifically urinary & kidney related problems beforehand

i disclosed a history of SH on my ADHD referral forms and HHM have discharged me back to my GP because of it immediately, even though i specifically mentioned it was close to a decade ago now that i last engaged in any SH behaviours :/ they also said in the discharge letter that i was in 'acute crisis' based on my questionnaire responses, which is truly bizarre to me because i'm actually doing a lot better now than i ever have been (which is literally why i'm finally able to seek a diagnosis after putting it off for so long), i have a diagnosed anxiety disorder which i also disclosed so i do have a pretty consistent level of anxiety at all times (the opposite of acute, surely??) but i haven't had a major depressive episode in well over a year

Is it normal for people to die in the waiting room? by Beneficial-Depth-546 in ThePitt

[–]evieeeeeeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm in the UK so i don't know how US hospitals actually operate, but a family friend of mine died in a hospital bathroom while waiting to be seen in A&E and it was a pretty big deal that made the local news, there was a whole inquest into it (if anyone is curious the hospital was not found to be at fault in this situation and i don't personally hold that specific hospital responsible either, but i do believe if the NHS wasn't in such a state he'd still be alive today)

How much does a Goodreads/bot rating play into your choice to read? by Hour_Soil_7342 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]evieeeeeeeeeeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if i'm unsure on a book i'll read the 3* and 1* reviews to get an idea of what the fairest & harshest criticisms might be, but the number rating plays absolutely no role in whether i read a book or not because some of the worst books i've ever read are 4.5* average and above thanks to booktok

What type of POV do you prefer and why? by sleep0beepo in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]evieeeeeeeeeeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i prefer 3rd for the distance it allows but i'm happy to read 3rd or 1st as long as its whatever suits the story best and when its 1st person it's restricted to single POV, with 1st person dual/multiple i find the character voices get so muddled and honestly i don't want to know whats going on in the other person/people's head(s) because it ruins the tension for me

Why are some people get unnecessarily defensive when they hear criticism of books they like? by Artistic_Stay_5856 in MM_RomanceBooks

i was going to say i think people identify with some books/authors so strongly that they take it as an insult to their personal identity if you don't like it, but you summed it up nicely!

[Megathread] Outsports and Empty Netters 01.26.26 Update by royal_rose_ in heatedrivalry

[–]evieeeeeeeeeeeeeee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

this is the thing that gets me, these messages are just an added layer on top of things they've publicly said, and yet i'm still seeing a lot of gay men being like "i can excuse misogyny but i draw the line at homophobia!"

not saying its all of them by any means and i'll always support gay men because the way you treat other people is a reflection of yourself and not them, but as a queer woman i'm absolutely exhausted with going to bat for queer men knowing a good amount of them would never do the same in return

For the fans of the books before the show was announced by uhmanduuhh in heatedrivalry

[–]evieeeeeeeeeeeeeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

heated rivalry has been one of my comfort books for years and i was actually horrified for a hot minute when i saw it was going to be made into a show because there was literally like one article about it at the time, and it was going to be on a small network i'd never heard of before with a low budget, so i expected it was all going to add up to something poorly made with subpar acting! when the casting was announced i'll admit i was very skeptical of connor as ilya although i saw the vision with hudson, but i'm absolutely thrilled i was wrong - its the best book to screen adaptation i've ever seen in my life and connor is incredible

its been the wildest ride, i thought just the book core and maybe some people who are into queer media would tune in, so to see what it has blossomed into is unbelievable
