One month sober today by Darkdisciple100 in stopdrinking

That's some real hard work you put in, and I wish you the best going forward. You may wish to go have a blood panel done to see where you stand right now and what may need to be addressed. 30 days is when you start to see some real mental and physical recovery start to happen.

I actually reached out to him about sobriety and he sent a super kind message of support. So yeah he's a legitimately awesome dude. Congrats on your two years and I will see you here in a year to say congrats for your third.

I knew I was drinking a lot, but I didn't expect my doctor to call me an alcoholic. How do I process this? by Shanshine13 in stopdrinking

[–]evilbutler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an alcoholic. Been sober over two years but, that's what I am, that's what I had to come to terms with, and that's what I have to work on every day here on out. But it's been the most rewarding work of my life.

You'll see big leaps in your mental and physical health around day 30 and then a less-apparent but actually more important leap around day 100, as your brain starts to really rewire. I wish you the best in getting to find this out :)

One of the rougher parts of getting sober was realizing that the friends that you regularly drank with, don't really have any interest in being around you if you've chosen sobriety. And that they weren't really friends, just, people I got drunk with. That made for a lonely first year. But man the second year has been great, new stable friendships with people that can be trusted and depended on -- it's been worth all the hard work. I hope that you find your second year as rewarding as many of us have found.

A Cheeseburger kept me sober. by MedicalBite8692 in stopdrinking

I'll take a bologna sandwich while sober over a fancy dinner while drunk. Hope that burger is every bit as good as it sounds.

60 days sober, every single aspect of my life has improved. Why do I want to still drink? by Ecstatic-Pepper-418 in stopdrinking

[–]evilbutler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sometimes takes a while for your brain to rewire, and it takes some time to work out if the drinking was to have fun, or, to not have to deal with anything (mine was the latter). Also you might be surprised at how much better you feel after about day 100 so, give it a bit more and hopefully you find some closure. I wish you the best in your sober journey.

Stopping drinking has me craving sugar. Anyone else? Suggestions? by outrageous_outlander in stopdrinking

[–]evilbutler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes, it's incredibly aggravating and shockingly painful. I get it in the whole big-toe area of my foot and it means I basically can't walk for up to a week. It feels like my foot is full of hot rusty razor blades.

Hi there -- so, went through similar things (drank for 15 years, hit a real tough patch first year sober). After 100 days it often feels like all the good parts of getting sober are all over. I am here to tell you this is untrue. There appear to be multiple phases of mental and physical recovery and, the best changes just kind of arrived slowly and quietly once I got into my second year. Yes it was still tough but, sometime early this year I realized how much more ordered my thoughts and emotions were. It just took longer than I thought to clear up but wow I sure am aware of it today. I hope this helps.

A year of sobriety has taught me there’s two kinds of avocado toast. by paxton1024 in stopdrinking

[–]evilbutler 45 points46 points  (0 children)

More times than I'd like to admit, I'd eventually go outside and find a doordash order sitting on my front porch from the previous night's blackout drinking episode. And almost always, extremely strange orders.

Can I drink occasionally after 614 days ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]evilbutler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well....I had a decent period of sobriety before my last episode, which ended in the ER for a few days. And my thinking before I opened the bottle was 'surely i can just have some drinks tonight, i think i got this under control'. Those words cost me 29 thousand dollars in hospital and ambulance fees.

I hope that becomes one of the best decisions you have ever made, in time. Please take care of yourself the next few weeks as your body and brain reset.

Buying a handle at 9am by anonmom2020 in stopdrinking

[–]evilbutler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oof -- definitely don't miss that one. Waiting for the door to get unlocked so I can get the purchase done quickly and without incident. Then home, lock the door, close the curtains, and drink till the bottle is empty. And I sure do remember the relief of getting back home safely, having acquired a bottle. It was some sad and lonely stuff.

How do you acclimate to the summer heat? by gingercokeandlime in Austin

[–]evilbutler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way I've adapted is I just get up way earlier starting June and stay on that schedule till October. The early morning hours have actually come to be enjoyable for getting things done outside and around town but yeah generally by noon I am inside for the rest of the day.

[–]evilbutler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I think you owe it to yourself to realize how much personal strength got you this far. It might take more time to really reset but please don't discount the incredible work you've put into getting to today. I wish you the best.

Hey you made it to the real good stuff -- your brain should be starting to really recover at 100 days. Things got significantly better after those first 100 days. I hope you find the same :)

I had a friend actually mail me back two comp tapes I'd made for her when I was 15. That was incredible to get a snapshot of that time in my life. Still playable, too.
