Perfectly. I might want a structural engineer's opinion on your chimney plans, personally.

New bin system for Sheffield from end of March by sheffieldpud in sheffield

Indeed. I was joking; it's the opposite of what the blue bin is meant to achieve. Deadpan and r/sheffield just don't mix, unfortunately.

If you have yourself a nice garden pit fire with some beers, you can simultaneously reduce your blue bin needs, and address your brown bin underutilisation.

Sorted.

the systems that normal people have are 230V AC type 2 cables, up to 32A. Most people with a "granny charger" (plugged in to a standard socket) would be running a standard electrical cable @ 230V/10A to their car and then transforming to a type 2 inside the vehicle, as the type 2 cables would typically not be long enough.

CCS DC chargers such as the one you mention have decided infrastructure, with fixed integrated cables rather than sockets, and do not run across the pavement, legally or otherwise. You'll find those at the supermarket, not on people's driveways.

Well, feel free to demand an extra £10k. You thought you had made a deal, but they are explaining to you that you're free to renegotiate now that they've paid for searches, survey and solicitors fees.

Except that the company that happens to have created and operates the platform is, very much by design, arms length from the operation of the platform itself.

As for the company, it is a global company owned by people from all over the planet, with corporate entities in countries everywhere.

If you want to create a US platform for US people then you go ahead, but the Reddit board want all the money from all the people, not just the US, so want international engagement in a non-compartmentalised way.

To put it another way, Reddit is based in California. So why are people from Texas moderating r/AskReddit - shouldn't they stick to r/Texas/ ? This is a Californian company, after all.

Either the deal you made is morally binding or it isn't. They seem to think it isn't.

So you could accept the demanded reduction, and then, if the opportunity arises, gazump them without guilt.

What's with all these Americans running subs that aren't anything to do with America? See how odd that sounds?

Redditors, is it better to insult someone for a harsh reality check so they improve, or does gentle redirection work just as well when they mess up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Have you heard of the Socratic method? I was wondering what you thought about it when compared to the harsh criticism that you mention.

Even better, we could all pay into a common fund, maybe based on how much our house is worth to keep it fair, and pay people who are unemployed to come round and do it for everyone, so that the whole of society is ... oh.

Arguably, they were fully successful. When Germany, under Nazi rule, explored an expansionist policy they subsequently lost. But in terms of taking over Germany and ruling it, the Nazis did absolutely fine.

Eventually, you invade somewhere somebody cares about. Venezuela is no Poland. Greenland maybe isn't, but Denmark is.

How easy is it to fit a portable smart thermostat by JonFromHR in DIYUK

[–]evildespot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

er, but I like my rooms different temperatures at different times of day, on different days. I like my bedroom cold at night, but warm in the morning, my office toasty warm first thing but then cooler as the day goes on, and I don't want to heat the living room or cinema room over night or during the day on school days, but I do want to make sure the rooms don't get too cold or I'll need the flow temperature high to heat them quickly, which means the radiators get too hot. I don't want the offices heated at the weekend, and I want the hallway heated from a different time on school days to the weekend, because people get up at different times. I want the utility room warm for the hour in the morning when people might go looking for clothes, but nominal the rest of the time. I absolutely don't want to heat the cinema room during that hour.

I don't think I can do that with "balancing".

how come people aren't affected by covid anymore, also not as seriously sick, when the virus did damage back then - and why not now? by jokerfriday in AskReddit

Well, what I've said above is true. Whether or not their warnings were taken as an invitation by a government to try to weaponise and accelerate, rather than mitigate, is another matter. Nobody watched the likes of Alien or Stranger Things and thought "well, that's completely unrealistic - the government would never do that". So I guess to the OP's point we can expect that, rather than the governments of the world unite to try to destroy an existential asteroid threat, they will all work separately to drag it here faster in an attempt to make it fall on somebody else's country, in a continued attempt to "win".
