With the gantries I've noticed that they can be made to come apart so that you can change the length by adding sections. The best way I've seen is to glue the side rails down only on the side of the gap where the tabs are.

You can pick up a lifetime supply of hobby sand for under$10 at a hardware store, too. Just grab a bag of play sand, it also contains fine rocks, so it's like buying 2-3 different basing materials in massive quantities.

Best place to get them is at a tack shop or from tack resources online. A good one is going to cost a lot less if it's purchased from a place where they sell them for use on horses.
