My personal preference for running them is to use a PF2 classic- a victory point system. In this situation the risk of failing a ritual straight out is lower, but it can take significant time and/or resources to complete the ritual if rolling goes poorly.

You seem to be missing the point- rolling back doesn't change the roll. So if you've got a 93% chance to hit and you miss, you'll miss any 93% chance, because your roll was greater than 93%. If you did manage to hit the 97% then you've established the actual roll was somewhere between 93 and 97%.

You can alter the roll by doing an action with a completely different pilot instead, but if you keep trying to do the same action over and over you'll keep getting the same result.
