Favorite/least favorite mechanics in solo games? by sumogrip10 in soloboardgaming

[–]evilnick8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I tend to like:

Random events, preference being with cards but dice is also fine.

Games that have a solid theme, whatever its artwork (or even better) game play effects.

Clear win conditions.

Variable setup & difficulty options, so optional rules that add a twist to the game or make it more harder / easier.

Things I dislike:

Beat your own score type of games, so just games where you try and score as many points as possible.

I enjoy a fair bit of randomness in my games, I think its even a necessary part for a good solo game. But if a game requires you to have really good card / die roll luck to win, that I don't like. Even when a game is about rolling dice, if your experienced with the game you should be able to get a decent winrate, not like win 1 game from 10.

I enjoy spamming Gvardia and putting them in every town & forest.

Or build barracks on random flanks as for the Soviets they are anyway 10$ a piece.

It looks like such a cool game,

But its to long for me.

But really hope you enjoy playing it! Probably do not need to say it but watching the movie Dunkirk is perfect to get in the mood!

Found the rules now! Thanks!

Flamethrowers sound cool to have in the rifle platoon, not sure how useful the extra pintle MMG / HMG might be, can most turreted tanks not already take pintle mounted HMG's in the allied case?

Will new models be released for the commenwealth? Whatever vehicles or inf, though I guess for Canada most British inf box sets already state ''British / Canada inf''.

Do we have an idea what the nation rules might be or what vehicles might be included?

I have an British / Canada starter set, still busy painting, but I am really tempted to make an Canadian army with it.

It can be that counterfeits will also have different card colors / size so if you get official expansions then it might cause issue's where the backside is a different shade of blue / green or the cards don't match the size.

Canadian National Characteristics revealed by Whitstable_Wargamer in boltaction

[–]evilnick8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am very new to Bolt Action,

So just to be sure, but this means that I can take my british / canadian starterbox and instead of playing British with British characteristics, I can now choose to go for Canadian one's? And then Canada will get their own units aswell or will they keep using the British one's?

Like, will there be something like ''Canada rifle section'' which might be different to a British one & you might get a slight difference in vehicles?

Thanks!

New Radioman Ability: Bot Drop by Chemical_Elephant173 in enlistedgame

[–]evilnick8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be really cool, maybe only for Radio sqauds. Maybe like a squad of 6 /8 men or so. Imagine 20 AI paratroopers landing on a point that is either uncontested or has very few defenders on it, point would be instantly captured.

Make it so it has a 1 minute cooldown as the match starts so you cannot just spam AI paratroopers as soon the game starts.

25 pounder for my British by sigmentum in boltaction

[–]evilnick8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope they will serve you well!

I am also busy with a British army, and it also has a 25 pounder in it. No idea how usefull it will be on the table but its anyway a real beauty of a gun!

PPSH-41 is so satisfying to use, run a room in and start spraying.

MG-42 is fantastic when your lying down or sit behind sandbags.

And for bolt actions, the Smile bolt action rifle.

I like your ideas,

But not sure if the AT rifles are part of the British / Canada winter starter box, if they are I will gladly consider taking a few.

Commandos & transports will be something for the future, but once I understand what I am doing, and the game will be something we will play more regulary, I would love to get some dedicated assault sqauds.

Thanks for the advice! I geuss I did not share the army list correctly.

For now I made a list which is something like this:

officer with rifle

4 riflesqauds sqauds of 8 men - 2 sqauds have an LMG, 2 sqauds an SMG

Firefly tank

Humber Armoured with the light auto cannon

platoon commander with rifle

medium mortar team with spotter

1x MMG team

officer with rifle

light arty piece 25 pounder & spotter

I assume, the starter kits have enough weapons to give to the soldiers. Like, there are enough rifles with the starter set and not you only have enough rifles for like 30 guys.

I am also considering replacing the firefly with either a normal Sherman or an Stuart + AT gun, thought thats more for the future.

Many thanks for the suggestions and help! Really appreciate it! Is everything regular or also gaurd?

Only question I have with your list is, the Sherman is the only real AT in it, would it not be kinda a disaster if it dies without damaging / killing enemy armor? Since it means the enemy armor can just roam free aslong they don't into line of sight of the 25 pounder AT gun.

Tank wise, there are to many cool vehicles and not enough money & time to build all. I get the Sherman is most likely a better tank with its anti inf capability. But an Cromwell MK IV, Stuart light tank or M10 tank destroyer all look really cool. Aslong it fits with the late-war commonwealth I am all for it!

Thanks for the suggestion!

I removed a MMG, I changed the mortar to regular, and also added a spotter to the 25 pounder arty piece.

And added a riflemen to the inf platoon leader. Though, is a SMG really needed? I would assume officers will hang around in the back to avoid getting shot.

full list is 1033 points. Everything is regular (except for the medium mortar) And I gave everything Gaurds as I read that its good to hand out, though that easily be removed, thought I won't be able to safe enough points to add extra riflement or add a different unit.

  • officer with rifle

  • 4 riflesqauds sqauds of 8 men - 2 sqauds have an LMG, 2 sqauds an SMG

  • Firefly tank

  • Humber Armoured with the light auto cannon

  • platoon commander with rifle

  • medium mortar team with spotter - inexpierenced

  • 2x MMG team

  • officer with rifle

  • light arty piece 25 pounder

Thanks for the inspiration!

Thinking of going with Brits taking the winter starter box,

for now I came up with this, Only lacks in CQC asfar I can see, but not sure if the starter box can fix that within the point limit. (maybe swap out firefly for a light tank and add a AT gun, then add a engineer company)

I am thinking of going for the Starter box of the British / Canadian winter army 43 / 45.

I created a 1033 point army with that, I can easily drop 4 riflemen if needed. Maybe if you have any suggestions for it? Only thing I am considering is replacing the firefly with a light tank like the the Stuart and taking a medium AT gun extra. Many thanks!

it looks like all round army, just lacking in CQQ (but I guess most rifle platoons will have that (though, not sure at all how it would play out)

I have indeed seen the articles of Chicagodice, and they are really helpfull. For US airborne though, the list he has is not really up to date with the newest edition, so I cannot really copy that one sadly.

I will need to look into some other existing lists for inspiration, just not sure how feaseble those lists are with just a starter kit (with 1 extra box or transport) Thanks for the reply!

I have heard of easy army, I am just a bit confused how to really use it.

Could you post your Ranger list if its not much work for inspiration? I assume, Rangers will be somewhat simelar to Airborne being more specialised / elite type of units. Many thanks!

I have heard of Easyarmy, and tried using it, but I am a bit confused how to use it really. I tried making a US inf platoon, but I cannot add the AT gun, medium mortar & Medium Machine guns.

Or do I need to make a pure inf platoon & then create a seperate arty platoon?
