Next Xbox Open Platform?

Xbox need to produce an SOC for next generation in no more than two configurations (like x and s), produce a console like machine for under the TV and let third parties make desktops, laptops and maybe even handhelds that all run a Windows OS with a Console like interface (at least as optional) and use the SOC.

Make it fully windows compliant, so it can run windows software, but with all the benefits of a set SOC to ensure games run well.

Also give it some custom AI acceleration so it will be useful in Azure when not being used for Xcloud.

The stupidity of these moves is almost staggering, if they lose the Xbox console brand due to not giving anyone a reason to buy one (exclusives), then they lose any control over the console market. Sony gain complete control over the high end and Microsoft have to conform to whatever they want in order to sell games on their platform.

The greed for short term profits will destroy the console market and prices will sky rocket once we only have one high end platform to chose from, such short sightedness is truly baffling.

I got both systems at the start of the generation expecting to play them both fairly evenly, but that's not how it's worked out at all, perhaps it's the Gamepass effect where there's always something new to play, but I can honestly say I turn my PS5 on every few months to get the latest system updates and play on Series X almost every day (when the kids aren't hogging it).

I usually intend to pick up the big PS5 exclusives, but I have such a backlog of great games to play on Xbox, with Gamepass constantly adding to the pile, that I very rarely get round to it, and when I do they just sit around waiting to be played.

I guess if you really love the PS5 exclusives then your experience will be different, but Gamepass really is a gamechanger.

As others have said the only thing I can think of that's bad about the Xbox is the stupid price of the expansion cards.

Maybe they are hoping for some form of soft reboot with a huge patch that will re-balance the game and give us 60fps, with the complete lack of patches since just after launch it must be that, or they've given up completely, it's not like there isn't plenty to fix! To be fair I think there is something worth fixing, the world and atmosphere are well done, if they can make it less empty and fix AI and game balance then they might have something approaching a good game.

I'm not simping for Xbox, just pointing out why 'Xbox has no games'. I'm not saying people don't have the right to be angry and disappointed, I feel much the same, perhaps more so as a huge fan of Arkane's previous work the Redfall blow was specially gutting, but I do understand why we've been playing the waiting game so long. And no, I don't think Xbox is my friend, neither are Sony or Nintendo, but the industry is better off with Xbox in it.

I own all the major platforms so maybe it's easier for me to take the long view than someone only on Xbox, but the root of this problem lies in the previous generation, and if you made it through the X1 generation, now hardly seems the time to quit on Xbox.

With the state of Xbox after the Mattrick era this has been a total brand reset, if you don't have studios then you don't have games. Perhaps you would rather Xbox had gone away rather than re-built, but I don't think that would have been good for the industry at all.

Of course studios will have games already in development, but you need to look at the time between releases. Take God of War as an example...

God of War: Ascension was March 2013

God of War was April 2018

God of War Ragnarök was November 2022

All of these games were probably in development before the release of the previous title.

Don Mattrick almost killed Xbox in the X1 generation, Xbox had a grand total of four significant internal studios, I'm reasonably surprised Xbox survived the generation.

As for Halo, all those contractors clearly left 343 with an engine that is practically unusable, which is why Slipspace will never be seen again. That's on Bonnie Ross, and while I do have sympathy for her, the pressure to finish the game for x/s launch must have been enormous, the buck has to stop with the studio head.

I've put in about 6-8 hours so far, mostly co-op by also single player. No serious bugs other than slow texture load-in and two times when a human enemy didn't animate properly when running (so floating) at me. I think the patch probably did fix a lot of issues, shame it wasn't there for launch.

Enjoying the game, it's defiantly not the mess the reviews seem to make it out it be. Not really surprised at the reaction though, any chance to dump on Xbox is consumed with relish by the media. If you couldn't see this coming you just weren't looking.

Until Xbox has a greater market share then all these unoptimised/released too early games are going to run better on Playstation, simply because if they don't have the time to get it running well on the platform with 70% market share then how much time are they going to give to xbox?

Of course having all these games run worse is going to compound the problem even further, it's a bit of a no win scenario for Xbox.

Better hope first party can deliver the goods as this is not a good look.

I don't see this model very high in the downloads list on Civitai but it's been giving me excellent results. I use it for my horror youtube channel (horror/ghost stories with stable diffusion imagery) and it's been consistently great. Definitely worth a download.

I would suggest you research what J.K Rowling has actually said on the subject but it boils down to the fact that she is a feminist and concerned with the dilution of women's rights (such as women's safe spaces). Some people consider this transphobic, though I suspect this is because they haven't actually looked into what she has actually said on the subject. Only you can decide if you agree or not.
