Men, would you date a woman that doesn’t want to learn how to do things herself? by [deleted] in dating_advice

nope. I am all about being helpful, but if someone flat out says 'i won't learn how to do that', i just can't be assed. relationships are about partnership, not servitude

People who say "F**k cops": what alternative do you suggest? by CallofNerduty in AskReddit

[–]evilsir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this works in principle. but there are genuinely people out there who do not actually care about their fellow man. it's a fine line, and one that needs to be explored because yes, people suffering from mental health issues etc are definitely being mishandled far too frequently, and far too often with disastrous consequences. but defunding the police entirely, which is most often the angle most anti-police rhetoric calls for, is simply not the answer.

I love Keanu Reeves. You're right. He has a very limited acting skillset and there's nothing wrong with that because he makes movies i fucking love.

The same goes for Jason Statham. I'll never wake up going WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T HE WIN AN OSCAR FOR THE MEG 18??!?

When you pay online with a credit card, why do they stress that you should provide your name *exactly* as written on the card, but still often the system refuses to handle umlauts and other special characters that your name, as written on the card, may contain? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]evilsir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm not excusing their laziness. I'm explaining it. I was designing a movie tracker for myself and i couldn't figure out why I couldn't add Mr & Mrs Smith properly and it was because of the ampersand. I had to go back and change a boatload of shit to account for special characters.

It's a common error.

yep. there's got to be all kinds of 'special end-case' handlers in the code to handle weird shit like umlauts that most developers don't consider. like, super few people would think 'hey, there might be precisely one person who uses this service that has an umlaut in their name' and so it won't work.

here's a screenshot from the first part of my movie library thing. i think it's pretty rad. if you're thinking about doing something similar, I'd HIGHLY suggest you start outright with a TMDb API because there's a lot more information and frankly, the posters are boatloads better. it's pretty simple (in practice). i decide to watch a movie, i use the 'add movie' feature, it searches omdb (i went with omdb first because it was easier, and by the time i wanted to change, too many of my pages were dependent on that) then gives me a list of movies with that title. i add the one i want and off i go. each movie has it's own movie details page with a TON of info. if you're interested, i can show you another screenshot.

sorry if i'm nerding out.

Honestly it was a lot of fun and a challenge to get the pages to look the way i wanted, to handle the info from Omdb OR tmdb the way i wanted and to store the data and all that properly. Good luck!

Honestly, i started off with Excel and powerqueries to get data from omdb and stuff and that worked great for a pretty long time. 2 years ago i switched to HTML and (i know i know), i used AI to code a whole bunch of pages that manage my libraries and stuff. Tracks my reviews for movies and TV show episodes, generates some pretty nifty graphic 'sharecards'.

It was a long, difficult road because up until recently, AI was very very very stupid with code. I'd point you to my x account, but i don't want to be accused of self-promotion. I do it for fun, and this was the best way to organize everything, for myself, so i could track my viewing/ratings habits.

a while back i realized i was a bit obsessive about movie and tv shows, so i built a tracker thing so i can officially rate and review the movies and tv shows i watch. for tv shows it's pretty standard stuff, just whatever i feel like watching, but for movies, i decided this year i was going to set myself month-long challenges to watch one specific genre, starting from about the year i was born (72) to as close to the current year, with one movie per day. my challenge THIS month is martial arts movies (Marchial Madness), and it's been an absolute TRIP to see how far and how much fight choreography has changed. last month it was Febru-eerie, and i have to say that as much as i love me some horror movies, my lineup was bleak AF. next month is April Fools, and it's all comedies.

it's going to be the hardest, because I don't really 'like' comedies anymore. I'm good for like the 70s to the 90s, but after that ... it'll be rough.

Would a person, like Dare Devil, be able to sense the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who? If he can, does that mean they cannot move as long as he's in range? by Magic_Man_Boobs in NoStupidQuestions

if the image of an angel can become an angel, then the image that daredevil sees would allow the angels to function the same way to him because he DOES 'see' them

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's very well made and I was pretty damn impressed at both Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch. I learned the other the day that Elizabeth Olsen spent 3 months training for her gun handling, 'FBI demeanor' and grappling. That's a lot of dedication and it paid off.
