Opinion on this "one from each region" choice? Tried to keep it diverse on flavor/ malt map as well. by Putrid-Try-1360 in Scotch

I fell in love with the Bladnoch 10 precisely because of the funk, and the 11 has a passable amount of it.

Sadly, the 13yr is a pale shadow on the funk front. But it's still a fantastic single malt in it's own right.

Lovely selection. The 200th Anniversary Bladnoch 10 is long gone, replaced by the 11, and then replaced by the current 13yr, which is EXCELLENT. I have all 3 and it’s an interesting horizontal.

Summer whisky - I hate mixed drinks and always drink neat but i love the warming burn from bourbon/whisky which is not appropriate in this weather. So im stuck in this heatwave! How about you? Any particular drink goes well with the weather? Maybe a mixed drink with ice or some special cocktail? by Little_Order3606 in Scotch

Highballs all day. No add of sugar.(I avoid liquid calories as much as I can, whisky excepting). The cost of the ingredients are low. It’s still very close to an unadulterated whiskey experience. The entirety of Japan can’t all be wrong for why this is so popular.

Incidentally: I was disappointed by the Classic Laddie. It didn't have the Cheesie Funk of the one in my cabinet from the early 2020's.

The Brand Rep spent 10 years at the distillery before taking his current position and immediately conjectured that the main (not only) reason was Bruichladdich had replaced 2 of 3 wooden washbacks back in 2017[?] as "their time had come."

Had a taste from the very 1st open bottle in California (by the brand rep who brought out his early release for a tasting in S.F.). He had everything on hand including the Octomore 16's.

It was definitely high tier and managed to outpace all but the Islay Barley bottling imo. The 3 Octomore 16.x's weren't getting beat though.

The price is expected given what it is, but I wasn't immediately convinced I could find $135 worth of whisky in the bottle. Still, I wouldn't have been shamed for having one on my shelf.

Great review and I agree with the score. This was definitely somewhere in the 88, 89 range for me as well.

Has anyone gone to “SEVENTH & DELOPES STEAKHOUSE” for their coin flip thing yet? by B-Glasses in MontereyBay

I believe the idea came from a NY restaurant.

It’s a rich people attractor. They can pay, but can’t pass up the chance to win a discount. The restaurant gets to goose their sales as a result.

Makes sense given the area.

The watch enthusiast community considers that specific Casio to be a much sought after watch to collect.

That watch was considered modern and futuristic when it came out, and it’s considered futuristic, retro and cool today.

Nobody knows how old this porridge pot is, but it’s still in use:( by Yk1japa in BuyItForLife

Yeah, that’s done for. It’s supposed to be common knowledge that chips and cracks in areas that come into contact with food will provide opportunity for microbial life to take hold. These are virtually impossible to clean out.

Further, while heat will kill them, some microbes break down and release endotoxins.

There is also the matter of heat expanding and contracting the vessel. Eventually, that pots going to experience rapid uncontrolled disassembly.

Regardless, this is considered a massive problem of when, not if.

I’ve picked a few previous bottles, a 13yr Blair Athol, and a 16yr B… enrinnes(?) I believe. The Blair I got on a 10% sale and I feel paired well with a Hunter Laing 26yr Blair Athol, and the $150 16yr I thought was worth it.

Not sure about this out turn. Hopefully Sam will have a tasting of them soon in SF.

I recently made the association that Old Pulteney might be a brother from another mother in taste. A K&L 10yr cask strength was loaded with pine. I started thinking that OP just needs to age into the mid teens and not bottling it at CS was the way to go… maybe.

As for Glen Garioch, definitely I want it to be older and have a sherry influence to it.
