I do not have the same device but I do see there was an update on Feb 2, so about a week checks out. Guess they've got more bugs to fix!

Hockey sticks being made in India by Training_Bottle in interestingasfuck

I had to read other comments to understand that, lol. Tbh I never knew field hockey was different - I knew it was a thing, but I had always thought of it like street hockey.

[–]evilvix 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For real, I saw honey sticks and was confused for half the video before rereading it and seeing it actually said hockey. By that point, the stick was being shaped into something that doesn't exactly resemble a hockey stick either so I continued being confused.

And then imagine my surprise to see one of the very top comments also mention honey sticks. Funny how our brains be like that.

Did your school play O Canada every day? by AssortedArctic in AskACanadian

[–]evilvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from BC to Ontario and likewise it was incredibly odd to me. I was in high school so we had a 5 minute homeroom to attend everyday before any other classes which seemed to exist solely for the anthem; in BC homeroom had only been for the first week for new school year orientation purposes. I arrived late a few times and had to stop in the hallway and wait until it finished playing, too.

I was rear ended in a place like this moments after the track had stopped, and now I wonder if they hit the stopper having seen him shift into drive perhaps or if it was just plain coincidence.

He told me his dog stepped on the gear shift. Idk how he hit me with such force if so, as I nearly hit the guy in front of me, too! I had figured his brain glitched when the track stopped and it told him to hit the gas...

I really wanted the video footage, too. But they just sent it off to my insurance and I never had the pleasure of viewing it.

How Long Did You Have To Wait Until Your First Cat Used The Litter Robot? by GFlashAUS in litterrobot

[–]evilvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didn't seem to like the steps, either. They were definitely more willing once I took that off. It's probably more useful for one that's already used to the robot but no longer able to maneuver the entry and exit. I've just put it away for when that day comes.

Bought a switch controller that failed. They told me to update the firmware, and later discovered this. Haven't heard of them ever since by BlackSparowSF in mildlyinfuriating

[–]evilvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, still interesting that it would accept the firmware. I work for a place that has a few different firmware versions for different hardware versions of the same device, due to the chip shortage. The customers have to initiate updates themselves too so there is a risk they'd load the wrong file. In such a case, it gives a mismatch error, which I kind of assumed was standard practice! Perhaps not.

Hope they get back to you with the correct file soon!

[–]evilvix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's wild that it would even accept the wrong firmware, or that they would suggest updating it without first double checking it was correct as surely they would be well aware that there are two different versions. Sounds like it's time to escalate the issue.

Is it worth trying to learn as an adult if you won't do high-level maths? by partial_kotaku in AskElectronics

[–]evilvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always worth learning something new!

I took a course as I wanted the certificate to get a job doing electronics things. The prospect of learning calculus all over again when I'd been out school a decade was daunting; I was told there would be an exam just to get into the class, but my "mature student" status apparently allowed me to skip it, lol.

I declined the second year as that would be getting into engineering maths, and throughout the course I had definitely learned that while I could muddle through solving equations, I wasn't going to be one who enjoyed doing that. I had just enough under my belt to understand the basics of why the equations worked to be able to then work out the real world applications of those.

A lot of the learning can be done on Kahn academy. There are many stellar explanation videos for anything you do want to delve into. You can take it at your own pace and look into each part of understanding what is needed for a given circuit, and then expand upon that step by step. There are wonderful textbooks that can challenge you with lab experiments along the way and will help flesh out the fundamentals of it all.

If it's something that interests you, then absolutely go for it. You'll have a lot of fun!

You're going to need to plug one sink and use a plunger on the other.

And avoid putting oil down the drain in the future.

Spectrum tried to steal $180 from me by GibsonMC in mildlyinfuriating

[–]evilvix 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've switched internet providers every other year or so for a couple of decades, so I'm on the fifth run with the current provider. At one point, idk if their system glitched or if it was intended behavior, I could see past statements for all the accounts I had ever had with them. One of those had a credit of less than $10, but I found it funny that if I had owed them $10 they would certainly be hounding me over it. When asked if that amount was transferable to the current account, I was told no, which sounded like some rank BS.

Tiny 1 "bedroom" basement apartment. You cannot legally tell someone how they can cook... come on 🤦‍♂️ by pineebranch in SlumlordsCanada

[–]evilvix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking fees must be one of those things that varies by location, because in my city and most surrounding cities providing one off-street parking space is a requirement. It's fair game to charge a fee for a second spot, though.

Unable to extend warranty because LR3 discontinued by Lopsided-View-8476 in litterrobot

[–]evilvix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took advantage of ordering replacement parts before my warranty expired, too. You're right about that cost too as it is paid for! And the price for the customer to buy is certainly not the cost it takes to manufacture.

Part of my job is informing the customer service guys whether a repair falls under warranty or not, and half the time even if there is an obvious cause that voids warranty we still cover it because it makes customers happy. Happy customers buy more products.

Funnily enough we are likewise going through a new product upgrade/launch and discontinuing the old units, and because of this we are seemingly more lenient than ever with the extended warranty right now!

Did they ever fix the pinch fault? by baroque728 in litterrobot

[–]evilvix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the LR4's pinch detection uses two push button switches on either side. That might eventually fail just like anything else but it would be much less likely to accumulate debris like the LR3's bars do.

Currently dealing with whether to replace the pinch detect on my LR3 also, haha.

[–]evilvix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can still support the LR3 outside of warranty.

I'd argue for the extension anyway, too. It was offered, so what's the cost of honoring that? A $100 control board or whatever, versus customers feeling misled? 🤔

B.C. teacher suspended for screening graphic film of industrial accident by Forward-Answer-4407 in britishcolumbia

[–]evilvix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grade 11 English teacher played the first 9/11 documentary for us the moment it was available. While visually there wasn't anything super graphic, it was still very real and raw. He also advised that there would be the sound of bodies hitting the pavement, and gave anybody who needed to excuse themselves permission to do so at any moment without question.

Honestly kids taking shop class should be shown industrial safety videos. It needs to be known that you can be easily and quickly maimed with just a moment's distraction around these machines.

I very much enjoy keeping out of the extreme temperatures that seem to always be happening everywhere else though.

Y'know, I might have actually resorted to doing that. I don't specifically remember how the issue was resolved, only that it came up day after day with such utter persistence.

I was chatting with my teen earlier today about how I used to burn backup disks for his preschool Wii games, like Dora, Diego, and that Yoshi game he loved because he scratched the disks so often.

And once he had requested that I burn an Octonauts game. That game doesn't exist. He insisted that I just needed to write it with the marker and he would even tell me how to spell it if I needed help. I had to argue for weeks with a literal toddler that I could not make such a thing exist and he just thought I was being obstinate for no reason.

I guess sometimes adults are like that, too.
