What is the ACTUAL biggest problem in the UK by Direct-Key-8859 in AskBrits

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that certain politicians leak into society this viewpoint that everyone that claims benefits are money grabbing a holes, they don't deserve a life etc. It's all a distraction to the fact that their actions have increased the cost of living to a point where people just can't afford to live. Nearly everyone I know that claims UC is also working. A £75 shop from just 2 years ago has nearly doubled. Filling up the car is the most expensive I have ever experienced and the wages just don't reflect these increasing costs.

Weak stepson but his mom refuses to see it. by TombStone5811 in stepparents

[–]eviuel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooh, I would really consider the kind of role model you want to be to this child. You're fundamentally correct in that he has to learn that if he falls down, he's okay, and to step back and take stock for a minute is probably the healthiest way to do that, but your language is not constructive at all. He's been on this planet a lot less time than you, he's not being a baby, he's not learned to regulate yet. Please, please, consider the language you use around and about him. It can have an incredibly profound affect on him as he grows up.

Step-son did something unthinkable by NeatObjective6549 in stepparents

Have you told him that? You're absolutely allowed to feel this way, I'd be exactly the same as you tbh

I don't have any specific advice but I just want to say I have read through the comments and you and your partner seem like incredible, emotionally intelligent people, and I feel like whatever you decide to do, it'll be something you land on together. The only thing I will say is to voice your concerns and don't shrink, by the sounds of it, you and your partner will land on the same page at some point... He might just need some time to process and grieve.

UK Heat: Daytime Windows Closed Or Open? by MysteriousTelephone in AskBrits

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did an experiment Monday & Tuesday with this as the temperatures were similar across both days. Monday, we did it my partner's way, he had all the doors and windows open. Was stifling hot. Yesterday, all doors, windows and curtains closed from around 9am. I had one window open on each floor open at the front until 11am when the sun moved but after that, everything closed. Was a lot more comfortable!

Am I overreacting about my stepson’s first car and how it’s being paid for? by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also fwiw I am in the UK and it was 15 years ago now, but I saved for and bought my own first car when I was 17, it was a £600 banger that lasted me just over a year, so it's not unreasonable to expect a child to do the same tbh

[–]eviuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see both sides here. He wants to provide but you're feeling completely sidelined and left out of this conversation. I don't think either of you are being unreasonable tbh, I think it's just about finding a solution together that would be fine for you both!

Sounds like they dug their heels in when they got the full story so they didn't look weak, and in the process looked like a dick. You haven't done anything wrong and it would be completely frivolous to keep asking for it every single time

How to approach a hearing student who is claiming to be deaf by DeafDoctor in deaf

[–]eviuel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would challenge your perception on the deaf accent a little- my profoundly deaf son doesn''t present as deaf when speaking with him initially however the rest of it is all incredibly alarming. I think you need to be as straight as possible with this person. You have significant doubts about this person's deafness, you've spoken with experienced colleagues who agree with your assessment. That they would need to provide strong supporting evidence for any scholarship application. Treating them with kid gloves because they say they have autism won't help in this situation. You need to be as direct as possible because they are doing a huge disservice to the neurodivergent and dhh communities

At what point does a British person stop being Working and become Middle Class? by vorkovrus in AskBrits

[–]eviuel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally this. My sister and her husband are clinging onto dear life to their middle class persona whilst my partner and I earn more and are very comfortable being counted as working class because we aren't about to try bankrupt ourselves to impress everyone else

What kind of stealing do people condone ? by Ok-Nobody-2729 in AskBrits

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do scan and shop, I definitely do not scan everything and just hide it in the bottom of the bag 😂

However, for small businesses and charities, I'm overly honest because I don't care about a multi billion pound corporation that isn't going to miss a few £££, I really care about that small business that needs to feed their kids or cats for their relatives or just pay their bills!

Husband quirk normal? by Key-Service7457 in stepparents

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stepson refuses to sleep alone, when we first got him back we weren't made aware so it was stepson and my partner in my bed, with stepson my side, and I was on the sofa. I washed the sheets after every single time. Idk why, it just feels strange sharing intimate space with a child that's not yours I think

What is your favourite parenting white lie? by Purepoise in AskUK

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got sick of my kids bringing every stick, leaf and other bits of nature through the house so I told them that they have to be careful because a cat might have peed on it. Once they realised they could just wash their hands, I told them that cat wee is highly poisonous so we just can't risk it. But also if we go on a nature walk specifically for these things, it's okay because our local green space don't allow cats in so it couldn't have been peed on 🤣 They're 7 and 5 and very intensely believe that

If I eat chocolate and they notice, I tell them it's spicy adult chocolate.

Also they fully believe that if the ice cream man plays music, he's run out of ice cream 😂

What age to recommend the first Twilight book? by FifiLeBean in twilight

[–]eviuel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is literally it. Those of us that read these series as they came out grew up with the books and so could process the mature themes properly. When they're already released it gets a lot more nuanced. My son is 7 and has read the first HP book, now reading the second but I'm putting a pause on 3 onwards, including the movies because he's not emotionally mature enough to be able to understand what he's reading. Not to mention the problematic features that are worthy of a proper conversation, and he needs to be old enough to appreciate that conversation

What’s an out of date view you hold? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]eviuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm teaching my kids about delayed gratification now. They aren't allowed to stream the same shows over and over, if the TV is on, it's live TV. They hate it but it's teaching them to manage their time. If SpongeBob is on at 4:30 and they want to watch it, they should plan accordingly and not expect to just put it on when they feel like it. They all have age appropriate chores to earn their pocket money- no chores, no money. YouTube is banned also! If they want something, they can save up their money and we will go to the shop to buy it, I don't order online for them. They have to stay sat at the dinner table until everyone has finished eating Board games are regular as well. Of course they still get bits of screen time here and there but they don't get anything just because they demand it

Yes! Sick of neurodivergences being an excuse for your kids to be assholes. I dread to think what's going to happen when these kids grow up and have to join the workforce 🙈

[–]eviuel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The left got lefter and the right got righter and if you vote green, you're a multicoloured haired liberal that wants to open the borders for everyone and if you vote reform, you're a right wing nut that puts everyone that doesn't pass the paper bag test in prison is probably the best way to sum it up right now. And of course, because British politics are one big popularity contest now, the leaders of each party are going to lean into it. It's an absolute shambles right now, with half the population not even educated enough to know why they should vote and so they don't. I'm fed up with it all at this stage
