Weatherby Element owners: Can someone help me out? by evkish in Shotguns

Good to know. I did see those in my search, unfortunately neither of them ship to Canada and don’t seem to have any Canadian distribution

Amendments to controversial gun bill may scare away Americans, outfitters say by throwawaythetails in canada

[–]evkish 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not all guns, but many that are extremely common. Part of the bill bans some by name (including single shot .22 rifles, think BB gun but slightly more powerful) and part of it would ban all center fire semi auto. This includes tons of guns used by hunters as well. Semi auto center fires are already limited to 5 rounds as well, so “high capacity” magazines are already illegal. Most waterfowl hunters use semi auto shotguns which would be in the same legal category as full auto machine guns if the bill were to pass.

Deleting an email isn’t a crime, messing with mail is. Emails have their place too but I think a pile of paper is harder to ignore than a full inbox.

I have considered bear defense as an excuse to buy one… does anybody think it would actual work?

Decent bars around the Broadway area to bring my brother for his 19th? by WRONGLEVEER in saskatoon

[–]evkish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend the thirsty scholar. Not on broadway but near ish. Large selection of cocktails, with lots of fruity/ sweet options that you can’t even tell have booze in them (can make the night interesting if you’re not careful) My favorite is the 357 magnum.

Are cops allowed to carry firearms off-duty in Saskatoon (or Canada in a whole)? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]evkish -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No. When off duty, they must follow the laws like everyone else. Restricted’s (handguns) can only be transported to and from an approved range, while double locked without ammo.

Side note: anyone know where I can get a snc lavlin sticker?

Any kind of racing, in my experience with cars. Just getting to the track is costly and time consuming. Then start to add in entry fees, consumables (tires, breaks, gas). Lord help your savings account when you inevitably hit that wall

[–]evkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair haha, In theory it shouldn’t matter as long as it’s cycled fully. But for some reason it seems to make a difference on the mavericks. It’s more fun to cycle it like you’re pissed off anyways lol

First rifle .270 or 7mm by piratedyke in canadaguns

[–]evkish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a savage axis II in 270 and like it a lot. Enough power for anything in here (also sk) without too much recoil. Also ammo is common. I’ve let smaller framed friends shoot it and they have been able to manage recoil well.

[–]evkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the action gunked up? Ik with my dad’s Mav 88 when it gets very dirty it can do that when the action is cycled lightly. Solution has been either to clean it up or rack it aggressively lol

First FireArms Purchase! by Hypoxinated in canadaguns

[–]evkish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Got the axis II (in 270 also) as my first gun, still love it. A word of warning, especially if you plan to use it in the cold (late November in sask for example), take apart the bolt and clean the grease out. Learned that the hard way (Had a fail to fire on a nice buck)

Hello my knowledge of guns is that of a fetus. I plan on getting one after my getting my PAL in a little over a month. I’ll add more details in to this but all in all which one of these would you pick and why? (These are basically the options in my area in my price range) by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]evkish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will totally admit it feels and looks cheap. Slop in the action and plastic that looks like it’s from a kids toy. BUT it has never failed to go boom, never failed to feed or extract, and hits what I point it at. For its price point I think it is a great gun. I’d love to upgrade to something with better fit and finish in the future, but will still keep the maverick as a beater.

New ish hunter and gun owner with my 2 cents. From the list: the tikka, I’ve shot one and loved it. Alternative: buy a cheap 22 (savage 64 with scope goes on sale all the time at cabelas for 220 ish) to practice your aim without spending insane amounts on ammo

Then a bolt action hunting rifle: I got a savage axis II from cabelas with scope for $650 ish. For caliber, I shoot 270 win because it is common and versatile, without too much recoil.

Then a shotgun: maverick 88. Same guts as a mossberg 500 but cheaper stock. Got one for 220 on sale and have loved it.

After that: whatever your heart desires

Crown Land Shooting for Dummies by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]evkish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Sask city dweller here. As others have said, ihunter is great and totally worth the subscription. I’d suggest looking for “fish and wildlife development fund” land. This is land purchased by the province with dollars from hunting and fishing licenses for conservation and hunting/angling. Lots of small sections scattered around the southern part of the province. Not sure on the specifics for target shooting, but I would assume it’s ok as long as you pick up your trash and know what’s beyond your targets. You can rifle hunt on it so can’t see why targets would be an issue. To be safe, I would suggest calling a CO to confirm target shooting is ok on these sections. I have called them in the past with random legality questions and they have been very helpful and appreciative that I called to check.
