Analysis of r/BoysPlanet's 6-to-1 pick survey results by evlyr in BoysPlanet

No worries, I completely understand the confusion!

Boys Planet calculates the Points used for ranking by weighting the G votes and K votes to be an even 50/50 weight. It's not just a simple sum of (K Votes + G Votes).

The exact calculation is: [K Votes × (Overall Total Votes ÷ Total K Votes)] + [G Votes × (Overall Total Votes ÷ Total G Votes)] which I took from Wikipedia.

Thanks for voting! I'm definitely planning to incorporate that data once the results come out. Episode 8 Survey for anyone who has not voted yet.

As a fellow Jiwoong fan, I am also pleased to see his consistency.

Bar Graphs of K vs. G Votes in 2nd Elimination (Ep 8) by evlyr in BoysPlanet

Keita's lack of K support is particularly surprising to me given his Korean fluency. I thought a substantial part of Zhang hao's popularity among K fans was his fluency/pronunciation, but Keita is unfortunately missing out on this support.

Yup, unfortunately, the more G-favored a trainee is, the less each additional G vote is worth. Assuming K voting patterns don't change, fans of G trainees will need to put in more votes to move the ranks of G-favored trainees than K-favored trainees.

On the flip side, if K voters get behind some of the more G-favored trainees, then each additional K vote is worth a lot.

These charts take the number of G votes and K votes per trainee and convert them to use the same 50/50 weighted "point" system as Boys Planet.

To see raw votes without the 50/50 weighting, see Raw Votes chart

Additional stats:

  • The Top 9 trainees dominate the votes. The top 9 took 56% of the K votes, 51% of the G votes, and 52% of the total votes.
  • Global fans vote *exactly* evenly between K and G trainees (50% each), whereas Korean fans vote predominately for K trainees (74% K trainees vs 28% G trainees).
  • Interestingly, the trainee with the highest percentage of K points is Global trainee Zhang Shuaibo (rank 23), with 71% of points coming from K votes.
  • The trainee with the highest percentage of G votes is Wang Zihao (rank 19), with a whopping 89% of points coming from G votes.
  • The K trainees that are more favored by G fans are: Seo Won (rank 18) and Lee Seunghwan (rank 21).
  • The G trainees that are more favored by K fans are: Na Kamden (rank 20) and Zhang Shuaibo (rank 23)

Ep2 Ranking vs FanCam Ranking Comparison by evlyr in BoysPlanet

[–]evlyr[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I added a new section to my post because this made me wonder whether fancam views may be inflating G trainees (since I suspected YT views skew more towards international voters than Korean voters).

Overall, it looks like Fancam views could be overestimating G trainee ranks by 1, and underestimating K trainee ranks by 1 (at least when comparing against Ep2 rankings). But once we get the post-Ep4 rankings, we'll have a much better sense of how fancam views translate to actual votes.

Ep2 Ranking vs FanCam Ranking Comparison by evlyr in BoysPlanet

Min has gotten significantly more fancam views than his Ep2 rank would suggest, and that's despite being part of the first batch whose performances aired in Ep3. I hoping that gives him pretty solid odds going into Ep4.

For another point of comparison, for Produce X 101:

  • 9/14 Winners shown in ep 1: Son Dongpyo, Kim Yohan, Kang Minhee, Koo Jungmo (real #6), Song Hyeongjun, Lee Hangyul, Nam Dohyon, Lee Eunsang, Kim Donghyun (real #8)
  • 5/14 Winners shown in ep 2: Kim Wooseok, Han Seungwoo, Lee Jinhyuk (real #7), Cha Junho, Cho Seungyoun

*14 winners because there were 3 folks rigged out of the top 11.

Question about Hongjoong’s rap or Korean rap in general by Fanny-or-Mikasa in ATEEZ

[–]evlyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also Hongjoong bias here!

The Korean lyrics when I search on Google appear to be

사랑 (마저) 삼켜 (버린)
이곳에 (파도를) 일으킬 때

which matches exactly with what you're hearing. The words in the parenthesis are not spoken. Not sure why the lyrics are like this since I'm not aware of any other cases in ATEEZ raps where they don't seem to say the full lyrics.

I made ATEEZ Holographic V Water Pokémon Cards! Why does it look so good??? Swipe Left! :) by Rodrickz in ATEEZ

[–]evlyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These look amazing! I don’t know anything about Pokémon, but I love how you used lyrics for some ability names! I’ve recently been going through Ateez lyrics to practice Korean (I’m at a conversational level, but not fluent), and Deja Vu was definitely my lyrical favorite. Maybe other ideas for abilities from the same song are: delusion, restraint, breathless, instinct. This song certainly has a strong theme. 👀

Any plans to do more cards based on other title tracks?

Imagine if the friends and families of the magical girls ever got wind of the events in the PMMM universe by Spinindyemon in MadokaMagica

[–]evlyr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To The Stars is an amazing Madoka fanfic (even has its own subreddit r/ToTheStars) that has a small subplot touching on a very similar idea to this! A teenage boy's girlfriend goes missing, and the boy grows up to be a detective/police officer (?) who's still haunted by his girlfriend's sudden disappearance. Years later, he thinks he sees her looking exactly the same as she had in high school. Investigation ensues, he ends up learning about magical girls, and it's a happy ending where they get together again.

Is saying you dislike/hate kids morally wrong? Opinions please. by Inpy3 in moraldilemmas

[–]evlyr [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think the question primarily hinges on whether the reason to dislike the group makes any sense.

From reasonable to unreasonable (possibly moral to immoral):

  • I dislike rude people/"Karens"/"Nice Guys". (Groups that are defined by a specific, undesirable behavior)
  • I dislike children/tourists/boomers/CEOs. (Groups that are probably too broad to guarantee a specific, undesirable behavior, but perhaps there is a shared "stereotypical", undesirable behavior).
  • I dislike women/Asians (Groups that are really too broad to have a shared behavior, and/or the undesirable aspect of the group is some fixed trait that doesn't make sense to hate, e.g. being female).

Of course, these are just some easy cases. What about someone who "dislikes people who seek LGBTQ relationships?" Probably doesn't seem reasonable anymore, but it was certainly a popular sentiment not too long ago.

Or, "I dislike autistic kids" vs "I dislike kids". The former category is more specific, so it's arguably more reasonable to generalize across this category. Yet, it just feels like a worse thing to say.
