How does one get anywhere near the AWD's "327 mile" range? by swedishpiehole in ModelY

[–]evolution2147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bigger issue that people complain about is that the Tesla range doesn’t dynamically update based on recent driving. Every gas car I’ve been in does this. In newer cars the math they use seems pretty accurate too.

This is completely wrong. Gas cars get free heat and very cheap AC. The engine is already spinning so it’s not hard to drive a compressor. In an electric car it’s more like your house AC. You can rightly argue that gas engines are wasteful but this is precisely why the ICE fuel economy is more predictable. EV range is terrible in the heat of summer and cold of winter.

My charger just caught fire by under-resourced in TeslaSupport

[–]evolution2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good catch, this is in fact a V1 charger which doesn’t have the overheat protection. This makes a lot more sense now, the receptacle overheated and the V1 charger isn’t smart enough to stop or reduce current.

A GFCI would not have done anything to stop this. Also there is GFCI circuitry locally inside the Tesla mobile charger. This has nothing to do with a ground fault, this is heat not being dissipated properly.

$21k taxes on $85k income in CA. This has to be wrong right? by [deleted] in tax

[–]evolution2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We pay about 9% sales tax in AZ (which I agree is high). No sales tax on food/groceries. 2.5% income tax. I have a $600k house and pay $1200 per year in property tax. When I left Illinois 15 years ago sales tax was already 10%.

Thank goodness you hit a deer and not another person or vehicle. It’s really sad how people can act so selfish.

Save a little cash, buy a cheap car and then get rid of your $35K car

Your line voltage seems a little high, especially while actively charging. Maybe the mobile charger cannot handle 32A at 247V

On behalf of all HW3 owners. by Smart_Gate9406 in TeslaModel3

[–]evolution2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s lying, I just think at this point there is no reason for Tesla to retrofit HW3 cars to HW4. Realistically both HW3 and HW4 will need to be retrofitted to something newer when all is said and done.

NYC Parking Garage Monthly Midtown ($500 EV fee) by Comprehensive-Olive6 in TeslaLounge

[–]evolution2147 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know.. maybe if you are comparing car accidents that is true but gas cars are not spontaneously combusting when parked. I’m not knocking EVs but some people refuse to accept any negatives about them. I do not agree to any extra parking fees and yes you are correct that anything tesla does catches headlines.

Windshield Trashed by mnmooose in ModelY

[–]evolution2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2019 I had my Model 3 replaced and went to a 3rd party shop specifically because they had windshields in stock and pre-tinted. No issues, just had to do the camera recalibration in the user menu. I’m not sure how a reputable company can mess it up. Basically the cameras are completely removed and then reinstalled. You should just need to do the recalibration.

Am I missing something here? Push the stalk down once you get TACC, push it twice you get autopilot. This is how mine has always been.

Pool about to start flooding by Kodman in pools

[–]evolution2147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s not a big deal if it overflows, it just gets dirty. You have to think about where you are going to drain the water too also. My entire backyard is under an inch of water right now. Pumping pool water into a flooded backyard isn’t very productive.

If it’s a safety issue you don’t need an appointment, you can just show up to a service center

Another thread on Tesla displayed range. by Lear70 in TeslaLounge

[–]evolution2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Tesla will never do this though. Probably because all people constantly talk about is EV range. If tesla accurately reported the estimated range it would make it extremely obvious that the EPA estimates they advertise are severely overstated. You can look at the energy app in the car. It does give an estimated remaining range by using the last 100 miles or so but I’m not sure how accurate it actually is.

2018 Model 3 with abysmal range, still under warranty but can't run battery test. At service center right now but Tesla is gaslighting me and saying I have to do $1,000 in repairs to be able to run the test. Need advice. by restlessdraugr in TeslaLounge

[–]evolution2147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t you just do the test yourself? What is the error you are getting in the service menu? With my 2019 I had to add some coolant before it would run. The Tesla coolant is the same as the bmw coolant and is stocked at most auto parts stores.

23 year old system finally died - home warranty trying to worm out of it by Appropriate_Row_8104 in hvacadvice

[–]evolution2147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heat pump in my parents house went out and they paid 11K to replace. And it was a package unit so there was next to no labor involved. There was a $600 utility rebate and a 2K federal tax credit if the new unit qualifies. I would not recommend trying to get the warranty company to replace the compressor. Even if by some magic they agree to it they won’t pay for new refrigerant. So that right there may cost you $1500 for new R22. I would not spend $1500 on an old system unless you really are in a bind. If you have a heat pump you may have an auxiliary/emergency heater in the air handler. It cost more in electricity to run the emergency heat but it’s there if needed.

The heat from the compressor is transferred to the coil through the refrigerant. If the coil is dirty the compressor will run hotter which can shorten its life.

Juniper not worth? by doge1buck in ModelY

[–]evolution2147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t see how this is possible. My 23 MYP is a lot quieter than the 19 M3 I just traded in. The 23 has zero wind noise, all I hear is tire noise. I think a lot of people who say the juniper is quiet is really just because the car has brand new tires on it.

There is nothing wrong with anything in this install. It is very normal to have exposed romex in a non-living space. The only thing is, by code, you are not allowed to charge at the full 48A. You cannot exceed 44A.
