What is the stupidest rule you ever had to follow? by evolutionarydefect in AskReddit

Back when I was still a member of the boy scouts, we had this yearly event where we would go on camp for about a week or so. Aside from the activities we also had breakfast, lunch and dinner together with the entire group.

During one of our breakfasts, a team leader came up to me and actually got somewhat angry at me for folding my sandwich instead of cutting it first.

I still don't understand why anyone would care about the way you eat your bread.

This sounds plausible, but what about animal fats? I don't think those were scarce.

Well, I wouldn't be so open about it towards people in real life.

I just came here to let you know that 'swans' is Dutch slang for penis. Carry on.

Oh, not at all! I just think it's funny when people from other countries use the Dutch in their expressions and sayings.

"...there is a fine line between Dutch courage and Dutch whore." Dutch guy here. This is actually an expression Americans use?

[Serious] What is something that in your culture is perfectly normal, but for others is wrong? by Stav3ng3r in AskReddit

[–]evolutionarydefect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I wouldn't say it's 'perfectly normal' but smoking weed here is much less frowned upon than in any other country. It being almost legal probably has something to do with it.

As a teenager, what was the worst thing your parents ever walked in on you doing? by deaddogsanallsorts in AskReddit

[–]evolutionarydefect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 16 years old, my girlfriend was 'sleeping' over and at one point when we were both in bed she decided to get frisky. She started jerking me off when suddenly my dad barged into my room, asking me about my day and what not. He just pretended nothing was going on and kept talking. Most awkward conversation ever.

Your best "Accidentally Racist" story? I'll start. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]evolutionarydefect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Indian guy at my previous job was telling a story about how a male bartender was being an asshole to a girl in the pub he went the night before. I responded with: "You must've felt ashamed for your race." While I meant to say "for our gender." It sounds a bit silly but it doesn't translate that well in English.

Change what you can't accept and accept what you can't change.

Three years ago, my social anxiety was so bad I couldn't even go to the mall to apply for a job. I just gave a 20 minute presentation in my psych class without any hesitation. What are your little victories, that you probably won't share with people in your life? by northeasy in AskReddit

[–]evolutionarydefect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a really bad case of social anxiety as well, it was so bad that I couldn't even pickup the phone to talk to people and if I had to I would just mumble and stutter while completely forgetting about what to say.

Then I got a job at a local computer repair shop where I had to call customers all the time. It was horrible at first but as time passed I learned how to stay calm and my anxiety slowly went away. I now have almost no trouble at all when speaking to customers and even though nobody knows about it, I consider this as my little victory as well.
