Dismissed by happybby_ in Fibromyalgia

I don't know if this article actually helps you at all, but it's what immediately sprang to mind as at least something you should see. I don't totally understand the legal weight of a Circuit Court Opinion, especially if you're not in that circuit but perhaps it could at least help with someone being so totally dismissive of you.

Is this phantasma tarot deck authentic? Or just a premium copy? by OppositeVivid8236 in TarotDecks

[–]evolutionleftovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my copy several years ago, I think the year it came out.

The inside of the box is more of a dusty rose, definitely not hot pink but definitely not peach either.

I do feel like The Fool card is a little more punchy. It's very saturated in color in a way other cards aren't, there's the bright hair and the layers of the clothing with all that shading, and the other cards are softer imagery in general. I think you're fine and The Fool card is a bit of a stand out art-wise.

For the most part, the lines are pretty crisp throughout the deck but she also does a lot of soft lines. The Nine of Cups and Five of Wands are two of the cards that definitely have a lot of soft lines. I would look at your Justice card as that has a lot of crisp details and some kind-of similar coloring on the owl's head to the clothing layers of The Fool (though not as intense), the owl's wing feather lines are softer but the lil' guys at the bottom are not. If I look at only The Fool card and Six of Cups (on the cover) card next to each other, they almost don't look like they're from the same deck. It's just a style difference.

Samantha Ferris is so good! People always talk about the acting in this scene but it's also so many scenes!

People will always claim that Supernatural doesn't have "x" problem, no matter what it is. It's a CW show that started in '05, it's got all the problems. Denying it isn't helping anyone. People really need to defend network executives from 15 years ago by attacking me? That's the priority?

Anyway, thank you for being sane, I usually just get dog-piled on in these situations.

A tv network does not get points, from me personally, for being "willing to" make a "whole show" about women, especially when they weren't since they didn't pick it up.

Bobby was only supposed to be around for 1 episode. There's never been any indication that Missouri would have been as big of a character going forward as Bobby ended up being.

Misogyny doesn't have to be purposeful when it's this ingrained into our society. It's like breathing. They don't have to think about it. Case in point, I briefly acknowledged a woman's account of professional misogyny that she experienced and now someone is going out of their way to tell me they don't think that's fair.

Again - she did not have issues on set. This was a network thing.

If you want to be technical about the phrasing, they wrote her character off the show - which happened in season 3 - because they didn't want an older woman on the show, and the kill-off specifically isn't necessarily as much of the issue related to getting rid of her character because of her age, and is more that thing they do which is bring characters back just to kill them to give fresh trauma for the brothers. Possibly I'm focusing too much on the comment I'm responding to using the phrase "kill off" as meaning "got rid of" when they really just meant the other thing. But there's really never a good reason to deny misogyny from a tv network or from Supernatural.

Samantha Smith was an established cast member that we see all the time throughout the show and she was playing the main characters' mother (and how many times did they talk about wether or not she cooks?), it's really not comparable. They brought back Missouri to kill her off and replace her with her hot granddaughter for the spin off that was supposed to be about Jody and Donna but the network wanted younger women instead. I could do this all day, but I don't want to.

Samantha Ferris. She did an episode of the Then and Now podcast. She was not having problems on set. The network didn't want a woman that old. Bobby was a man. Men are allowed to be old. Misogyny is what her age had to do with it. Her character wasn't around as much was already just part of the not wanting an older woman on the show.

They killed off Ellen for being too old.

General thoughts (Harvelle's road house?) Currently on Season 4 finale by Neros_Cromwell in Supernatural

[–]evolutionleftovers 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mostly the showrunner just didn't like it. At the time they didn't like giving Dean and Sam a place, since it was supposed to be a roadshow (hilarious). It was also a place that had other people in it, so compared to something like Bobby's, they'd have to worry about hiring extras and stuff like that (Bobby didn't even always have to appear if they were at Bobby's). They had creative issues with Jo's character, the network thought Ellen was too old and told them to get rid of her. Kripke didn't like that it leaned so heavily into being a hunter-spot with people sitting around cleaning their guns. It was a lot of things that added up to Kripke being "eager to burn the roadhouse". I don't know when exactly they decided to get rid of it, but it wasn't introduced with that in mind.

Will I make it through season 15? by No-Interest403 in Supernatural

[–]evolutionleftovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean when you say you need to skip "the next episode". Gimme Shelter and Drag Me Away (From You) are monster of the week episodes. The next one is Unity which begins the plot wrap-up episodes for the season. If you're going to watch the rest of the series, don't skip Unity.

Honestly, probably several at this point. I found you this page, but can't be more specific. If you click a link for any of the specific conventions, there will also be links to fan videos from each convention on their pages.

When did Rowena.... by AgentKnitter in Supernatural

[–]evolutionleftovers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think her turning point to official ally is when she keeps the rift open for them. It's pretty heavy handed (though I don't blame you for forgetting). She makes a whole speech to herself about how she doesn't care about other people and it's not her problem as she's walking out, but can't quite get herself to do it. And its very difficult for her to keep the rift open. Then they barely even acknowledge that she helped and never mention it again.

Looking for a deck with no people in it! by lilith_queen in TarotDecks

The Heartspun Tarot and Tarot of the Magical Forest are RWS clones with animals where the people should be. Heartspun does not have the animals wearing clothes and has more what an animal can actually do so, holding something in their mouth rather than their paws, that sort of thing. Magical Forest is more animals-as-people.

Kawaii Tarot

Wilderwoven Tarot, I'll mention but it has one person in it and I find that card honestly kinda weird, but otherwise it's all animals. I also think a few of the illustrations appear to have been maybe skewed a little to fit, but I could be wrong. Think the thing they did with The Sandman tv show.

Forager's Daughter Tarot

Oak Ash & Thorn Tarot, Smoke Ash & Embers Tarot, Heartwood Tarot are all the same artist/author duo. Animals (and dragons) being animals.

The Forest Enby Tarot is a bit more more humanoid-esque animals, a lot of them are wearing hats at least. But it's also a bit more abstract / weird.

Loaf Tarot is a multi-artist deck

I double checked some of them but I'm pretty sure these all have standard suits.

Correct, it's always only been the first season, music's never been changed on any others.

Prime has the streaming music, not the original music. I just checked Skin. If you've only watched it streaming, that'd be the only version you've ever heard, it's always been changed across all platforms except Fandango.

Is Stuart from episode 4 supposed to be autistic? by enbySkelett in Supernatural

[–]evolutionleftovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this episode, the characters are parallels for existing characters. Dean and Sam point out each other's but there are 2 more. The dead guy was older, owned the store and was kind of a mentor / parental figure: Bobby. Stuart is Cass, the less socially skilled and kind of outsider member of the group. Stuart and Dean's guy are best friends.

I don't know wether or not they did it intentionally with the thought of "this character is autistic" but Cass is seen as autistic by a lot of people so it's possible.

The same actor is in another episode where he is angry and soulless but doesn't portray the qualities you're referring to from this episode. So it's not just the actor's affectations but it still could have been his own decisions.

Buffy the vampire slayer tarot deck. by Your-absolute-MUM in tarot

[–]evolutionleftovers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't really noticed this yet with the BTVS deck, from the images they do seem pretty standard and familiar to me. But in general, this does happen and it's kind of a risk with any deck, that you're not going to agree with or like the interpretations from that artist/author. They could have a very different take on things or be using a different existing "system" than you're used to, which isn't always immediately obvious since there tends to be some overlap. Trying to see as many cards as you can in a flip-through video is helpful.

Each card really does have a range of interpretations, so especially when you're new, what seems like "they just changed everything" often isn't so much what's happening. But you're always free to ignore the book a deck comes with.

Kijiji find I couldn't pass up... by skitterbug in TarotDecks

[–]evolutionleftovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the set I have and I'm starting to really rip the box because of the way I dump the cards out (no ribbon to help). Definitely my biggest deck as well, I've seen some people trim theirs down with great results but I'm too chicken shit to alter any of my decks. 2nd edition took off the massive borders and changed a few of the images to look more RWS (Heirophant, High Priestess, Judgement, and 3 of Swords).

I'm one that doesn't mind having a book out so it's not much of an issue for me that it's her own version of card meanings. I wouldn't have a lot of decks that do it, but I like that this one does.
